Forensic Files: Picture This (2005)
False conviction?
This case was very troubling to watch, I couldn't help but consider the possibility that this man was falsely convicted. A few marks on the leg, some weeds under his car, and a phone call made in the morning to be used as motive... seriously? This man supposedly killed his daughter because she used the phone after being told not to, and the only evidence is a similar weed under his car, and some marks on her body match some part of his car? This is ridiculous when you consider that no matter what marks she had on her body, they could of likely found some way to create those marks with his car, and I've probably got 6 different weeds under my car that I don't know about.
Never was it suggested that this man was violent or abusive in any way, yet apparently he killed his daughter simply for being on the phone, that just doesnt add up to me.
The House with a Clock in Its Walls (2018)
Unlikable kid ruins movie
Some of this movie is ok, the 2 adult actors play a half decent part and the story, while being a little too scary for some children, is half decent, but kid is so unlikable that the movie falls flat on its face.
Lewis hates everything except his favourite TV show, is completely ungrateful for anything people do for him or give him, and continues to make decisions that are so bad that, by the end, I was on the side of evil just so this kid could get what was coming too him He deserves everything that happens too him in this movie, it's all his fault.
That is then surrounded by some terrible toilet humour and topped of with one of the most disturbing baby scenes I've ever seen in a movie, and I honestly wish I never witnessed it.
Do not waste your time with this movie unless you are a serious fan of magic films, and are desperate for a fix.
Frozen (2010)
No time was wasted doing any research for this movie.
I can almost guarantee that you will not enjoy this movie if you have ever done one of the following actions-
-Lived in snow -Been skiing -Been to the snow -Read a book about snow -Seen a movie that has snow in it -Spoken to someone who has seen snow -Accidentally turned your air conditioning down to low.
Basically if you have any idea of what being in a cold environment might be like, then you will spend this entire movie picking faults and questioning the characters actions, because it seems like whoever wrote this script has not.
One scene (very early so not a spoiler of any sort) shows a character noticing the other has frostbite on face. Points out the fact that they have it, but doesn't suggest zipping up their coat or even covering their face with the scarf they have uselessly positioned under their casually open coat. They carry on as if oblivious to the fact that the low temperatures are harmful in any way.
This is just one small example of the stupidity of the main characters that you will inevitably come to hate, even wishing death upon, they deserve it, for making you sit and watch as they make one idiotic move after another against hazards that will have you scratching your head as to why they are hazards.
There are a few interesting scenes, but it really is not worth the painful "Why did you do that" and "That doesn't make any sense" moments.
Do yourself a favor and stick your tongue to a chairlift, you will have a less painful, and more interesting experience.
Oblivion (2013)
Solid SciFi
A good story, though maybe a little light for some.
A drone repair men is sent back to Earth after a war with an alien species has sent us to the stars while we wait for the remaining aliens to be mopped up by said drones.
No one I watched this with had trouble picking the minor twists and turns the plot takes, but it was quite fun talking about it after the movie. Also it leaves quite a lot unanswered, but sometimes that is half the fun, once again spurring conversation.
There were a few minor plot holes and ideas that make you question the motive behind those making them, but nothing that ruins the good mood of the film.
Overall enjoyable and fun.
Skyline (2010)
Weak all over
Terrible.
I love Science fiction, and could even be called bias towards them, but this movie should come with a "Not to be used for entertainment purposes" warning attached.
It is painful to watch characters make stupid decisions against an unbelievable, maybe even boring, alien threat.
Nothing makes any sense, and you are left with one of the most anticlimactic endings in film history.
This movie deceptively picks up right at the end, and you think, just for a second "This is actually starting to get-" and it's over.
Planetes (2003)
Science fiction at it's best.
There are no aliens here. There are no FTL drives and no giant mech suits. This is Planetes.
Following a small space junk recovery team, Planetes gives insight to what living in space would really be like, gracefully balancing the personal issues of crew members, just living their lives, with the tremendous impact that space colonization would have on human civilization as a whole.
No science fiction has left me more wondrous with the concept of space life, more bewildered at the fact we aren't there yet, or more flattered simply for being the same species as minds that created this fantastic anime.
This is the near future of space travel and it doesn't need action or fantasy to tell the story of humanities first steps into the solar system. This is the greatest science fiction drama ever made.
This is Planetes.
