Becky (2020)
This should have worked, right?
Who would think that a serious suspense thriller horror made up of comedians and Canadian actors would be so terrible? Well the casting direct didn't think so, but was sadly mistaken and should never work in this business again. Actually, the director should also join him/her on the unemployment line. This movie was terrible from square one. The person who plays "Becky" is such a terrible actor and obviously didn't get any help or pointers from the director. Also I couldn't buy that the fat guy from King of Queens and Jeff from Community are "serious" actors. They barely qualify as actors in the first place. I used to be proud to be Canadian but this movie is embarrassing. Sure it was funded by Mericans, but it was filmed in Canada and has Canadian actors and has that cheap Canadian feel to it. It's painfully obvious that everyone involved with this project just "phoned it in".
The Wrong Missy (2020)
Could have been good!
First off, David Spade was the wrong choice for the main character. Spade looks like an 80 year old man with a 14 year old's haircut from the 60s. He doesn't deliver what could have been a performance. This plot sort of reminds me of "Bringing Down The House" with Steven Martin and Queen Latifa. That was a funny movie, because they got the formal right. This moving on the other had was cringy and irritating. Meaning it was hard to watch because there was scene after scene of hard to watch uncomfortable situations that really didn't pull off the humour that was intended. Just making it terrible. I like low brow, sophomoric and campy humour, but this was a bad script and poorly directed movie.
Father of the Year (2018)
Okay, but could be a lot better!
This was a good character for him to portray. Maybe because it is close to his real personality...who knows? Unfortunately his random accent that he is trying to pull off, isn't great and comes and goes. The character "Meredith" , although cute and attractive looking, comes across as abrasive and unappealing. The director could have gone is a better direction with the way she was portrayed. The other actors do a stop on job except for Jared Sandler. He is just terrible. I've seen him in "The Wrong Missy" and he was terrible in that too. I think that the only reason why he gets parts in David Spade's movies is because he is a second rate stand up comic that opens for Spade when touring.
Overall it's an "okay" movie and has it's charm in some areas, but I believe that they relied too much in "improvising" rather than having a solid script and lines to go by. There are a few scenes that make this work watching when you have nothing better to do, but there are equally bad, forgettable scenes too.
Terminator: Dark Fate (2019)
Watered Down Mexican Adaptation
This is a watered down Mexican version of the terminator franchise. Poor character development, bad acting and lazy CGI make this movie empty and hard to watch. It is too bad that we waited so long just to be rewarded with a garbage excuse for a movie. This is my opinion, but make up your own mind and try to watch it. I suggest you don't waste your time or money.
John Mulaney & the Sack Lunch Bunch (2019)
Great Idea, but poorly executed!
This is a show buy a adult, for kids, with kids present, and is apparently is supposed to explore what kids have on their minds, but it's fully scripted. What's the point of having a show about what kids think if they're told what to say? I love listening to kids express their ideas and thoughts. It's very entertaining and enlightening, but this show is so structured that these kids seem too fake. There was a great opportunity here and I normally like John Mulroney's good clean humour, but this show is a big "FAIL".
Dolemite Is My Name (2019)
Although I can appreciate the "Blacks Only" cast, the movie itself was terrible.
Some true stories should not make it to the big screen unless it is done with the attention it deserves. I believe that the casting director of this movie just crammed it full of old has-been black actors to try and attract a bigger audience, but in this case it might have been better using "unknown" actors who are more talented. For example, Eddie Murphy. In the 80s, he was fresh, like a new head of lettuce, but then want downhill after he released his musical video "Party All The Time". That was the marker to his failing acting career. To see him in a movie now, is painful to watch. His old, tired routine is getting sad. As for the rest of the cast and the director's talents, they are non-existent. It's like watching a high school play.
Prank Encounters (2019)
Netflix always tries to monopolize on the current trends, but fails miserably!
This time, Netflix is trying to create a show around a second rate, semi-popular child actor, who has no range or talent. The series is simply a "retooling" of a different poorly done show, but like the original, this "reality show" is a fake. It is painfully obvious that it is scripted and all the "victims" are no-name actors paid scale. This is not entertaining, or funny.
Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner (2019)
The Movie "Idiocracy" is a reality!
After watching this TV series, one can come to the confusion that today's society has come dangerously close to the movie "Idiocracy" . I am okay with the legalization of cannabis and indulge in it myself, but Netflix seems to be trying to capitalize on Millennials who like to partake in the big smoke. I also like drinking alcohol, but don't want to watch a chef on TV drunk all the time. Just like I don't find watching a "Chef" and his friends high, eating and exploring foods that will satisfy their "munchies". This show has no interesting content and is just painful to watch.
Schitt$ Creek (2015)
Great at first, but then goes south.
This is a show about rich pretentious family who lose everything except what they can pack up in suitcases. It is funny because the situation that this comedy is about, is them trying to acclimate and assimilate into an unknown way of life. It's funny because it's about rich people learning to be poor. It's very funny and entertaining at first, but then they start to establish themselves. They begin to make thousands of dollars, have jobs and are on the town council. Once this happens, there is nothing to watch. It no longer is funny, so they try to make more dramatic episodes to compensate for it.
Scare Tactics (2003)
Fake reactions!
First is all this show has been going on for years and friends or family setup their loved ones to be pranked and when the reveal happens, the victim always knows what "Scare Tactics Show" is. Therefore the victims must watch the show too. Secondly, they used the exact same actors in every season. So my question is, why don't the "victims" recognize the recurring actors when being pranked? Also, every reaction seems to be the same and each one is like, "Oh you got me". But in most cases you'd have people crying and visibly upset even after the big reveal that it is just the show, Scare Tactics. I believe that most people, if not all, know that they are going to be on the show or at least figure it out during the scene. The victim's reactions just seem too calm and fake.
Us (2019)
silly NOT scary
This movie got high reviews from critics from other websites. I'm starting to think that the "professional" movie critics are afraid to honestly review movies that my cause a controversial backlash. For example, dramatic gay and lesbian content or movies who have mostly all black cast. Like this one. I am not prejudice or racist, but I do notice that movies like this get automatically high ratings because giving it a bad review would be a very unpopular opinion and the critic could come under scrutiny for being racist. With that said, the actors did a great job. The casting director did a good job. The characters were instantly "likable" and the production value was okay for the type of location they had to deal with. The plot was silly, very silly. There were no scary or suspenseful parts in it. It was very disappointing. The writing and directing fell below "the bar". Very disappoint that the major critics would give it so many fake positive reviews. I trusted their experience opinion and they let me down.
The Upside (2017)
Love Cranston and want to love this movie....but did not!
This is a poorly done remake of a great French film called The Intouchables" The original is a must see true story and will stay with you long after you watch it. This movie however takes "The Intouchables" and destroys everything about the original that that made it great. I love Bryan Cranston and loved the original movie. So I was excited to see it, but unfortunately, there are too many negatives to mention. Trust me, forget this garbage and watch the first one. Yes it has subs but it will be worth it. This movie however isn't worth the time to watch it's trailer.
The Matchbreaker (2016)
So boring!
This is a bad movie. I like indie movies but this was pathetic. It was soooooo boring! It felt like the fun time was 4 hours and nothing really happens that isn't predicable. It's not funny. The "actors" are terrible. The plot is thin. The direction is practically non-existent. One positive thing that I can say about it is that the camera work is very good and the actual film editing is good, but not even that could save this movie. I also suspect that the reason why the reviews are so high on this site is because the "actors" and they friends and family are the only ones who rated this flop. It feels like a bunch of college students who majored in acting and film classes, couldn't find work so they decided to fund their own movie, which sadly was a huge mistake. I can't recommend this movie.
Patriots Day (2016)
Over Rated!
There are certain types of movies that get a "free pass" and are automatically given good reviews because of the subject matter. Usually children's movies, religious movies, movies about gay or lesbians or any other controversial subjects, and movies about national tragedies. I find that this movie has received such good reviews from the critics because they are afraid to criticize it because they could be considered non-patriotic and it's not worth the hassle for them.
First off, there are a few good actors in this, but ones whom are not really getting the best leads anymore. They are just okay and do a good job in this flick, but my main issue is with the poor direction, editing and camera work. I believe that the director wanted to go with an independent film look. You know what I mean. It's where they have two or three small HD Digital hand-held cams filming at a shaky POV angle. Then edited into quick scene changes. It reminds me of the type of filming/editing of the old TV Show, Hill St Blues. Some people might find this artistic, but I just found it nauseating. They zoom in way too close to everything and everyone and pan far too quickly. The shots are way too tight and way too shaky. It has a "high school" project feel to it. I couldn't really considerate on the movie most of the time, because I was trying to figure out if they were actually recording with good quality smart phones or not.
I realize it is based on a true story and should get a "free pass", but I found it was very poorly done and it's like the director either just "phoned it in" or the director is simply a teenager who wants to break into the business with his first film and who is also the nephew of the top executive of a production company.
MythBusters: The Search (2017)
Simply Terrible!
The only reason why I tried to watch this TV show to begin with is because I thought that it might be cool like the original Myth Busters was or at least come close. I was sadly mistaken! This TV Series is so bad that I couldn't even get through the first episode. The host is an idiot and the show is poorly directed and written. How in the hell did they get the rights to use the "Myth Buster" name? What a major and disappointment and failure! I can't see this lasting too long, but that's what I said about Honey Boo Boo too! If you want my advice, don't bother wasting your time. Or you can, just to see if you agree with me or not. It's like they intentionally tried to make it a flop so that they'd have a good tax write off!
Adam Ruins Everything (2015)
I challenge Adam to do a show called, "Adam Ruins, "Adam Ruins Everything"
I have to admit that when I saw my first episode of "Adam Ruins Everything" I was impressed. It was the one about engagement rings. It was funny and very informative. So recently I was very pleased to learn that his videos are available on a TV Show format. So I did a binge watching everyone that was/is available. I was very shocked and disappointed in the biased views this show is taking in order to gain viewers. He seems to want the teenager demographic and to get them to watch, will gloss over the negative aspects of what is "dangerous" in order to gain their support. The most serious episode that is guilty of this is the one on drugs. He does mention that weed is dangerous for people under 25, but does so quickly and then moves on quickly to something that he makes sound more interesting. He seem to be relying on short attention spans of our youth. In that same episode, he picks out facts about illegal and prescription drugs which suit his topic and does not explain both sides properly. He almost convinced me that it is okay to do heron because some prescription drugs are in the same category. What he doesn't talk about is dosages, methods of use and monitoring. Sure most of the prescription drugs have street names and recreational uses, but under a doctor's supervision and monitoring, they are necessary. He made it sound like recreation use is okay. He even had a "hand picked" guest from Canada to talk about safe crack house shoot up facilities so addicts will not kill themselves. That's great...a nice place for people to shoot up and feed their addiction so that they will be safe and not go killing themselves. I challenge Adam to do a show called, "Adam Ruins, "Adam Ruins Everything" and have him debunk his own show.
We Are What We Are (2013)
Great Movie...Up Until The Last 10 minutes!
Let me first start off with telling you that I loved this movie up until the last 10 minutes. It was slow moving, but not boring. The cinematography was excellent, acting was superb, there was suspense, there was a feeling of creepiness and the plot was very interesting. The problem is with the very end. It didn't follow through with the believable line of thinking that it had been up until that point. These people believed that they had to eat human flesh in order to stay alive and that regular food was poison to them. They had always eaten their human meat cooked like we would beef, pork or chicken, but at the last five minutes the two girls suddenly started to eat their father alive. That would be like me, after eating cooked meat all my life, suddenly just biting into a cow while it was still alive. The children were not crazy. They were just taught from birth that they needed human flesh to live. So why at the very end, did the writer decide that they out of the blue liked raw meat. Sure they wanted to kill their father and were biting out his jugular and wrist veins, but they weren't spitting it out. They just kept eating him. Didn't make sense to me. Too bad, because it was doing so well. Unbelievable ending. It's like a train speeding rapidly down the tracks and for some random reason, jumps the tracks and crashes.
Being Canadian (2015)
Huge Disappointment. Robert Cohen Phoned It In!
Let me first say that I am proud to be Canadian and I believe that am a funny guy who loves comedies and documentaries. I wanted to love this movie! Hell, I would have settled for 'liking' it! But this was a huge let down. The director and writer 'Robert Cohen' seem to phone this one in. I read his IMDb bio and he seems to have co-written a few episodes of TV shows that I like. So I believed that this movie would be informality funny! It was NOT! Robert Cohen seems to love hearing himself talk and seems to think that he is pretty funny, but is not. At least not in this movie. It did have a lot of interviews with famous Canadians, but each being brief and non-memorable. Sure parts of the interviews made me chuckle a little, but I'm not even sure if most of them were with the director. I believe he just salvaged them from the archives. Robert Cohen (director and writer) narrates through the entire movie with his droning on and on. It's like he was trying to be a funny Michael Moore, but failed miserably. There was very little actual content in this movie. I didn't learn anything new, didn't really laugh, and found myself wanting to turn it off, but stuck with it to be loyal and was hoping it would get better. Sadly it never did. I'm guessing the only reason why this movie became a reality is that it was funded partially or in full by the government or was given huge tax breaks because we require legally to produce and air a certain percentage of Canadian content. There are other movies and documentaries about Canada which are funny. This one is not and didn't need to be made. I am actually wanting to apologize to any non-Canadians who were forced to watch this. Robert Cohen reminds me of a high school chemistry teacher who tries to be funny so the kids will think that chemistry is cool and not boring.
Joshy (2016)
A Few Good Actor, But A Very Bad Movie
First off let me say that there are a few good, but not great actors in this movie. Whom I like in other TV Shows and Movies. So I thought that I might like this one. I was sadly mistaken. This movie didn't seem to have a scripted. It was like a non-funny "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" episode. I'm guessing the director just gave the actors a bio on each of their characters and let them improvise their lines. It's an interesting concept that didn't work. I really wanted to like this movie. I honestly tried to keep an open mind. It was just a chaotic mess right from the first. There was no part in the movie that I found funny, humorous or slightly witty. Don't wast your time on this one.
Grandma (2015)
Not a great movie and tries too hard to preach!
I find it funny that whenever a movie is about controversial subjects in which we have learned to have tolerance for, then it automatically gets great reviews from the critics. I guess none of them want to say the wrong thing and have groups protesting them. Therefore, if a movie is about the correct subject, it doesn't matter how low it's budget is or how bad the acting or direction is, it will still get great reviews. I am a little braver than that. This movie is about subjects that I hold dear to my heart and I agree with a lot of what it had to say, but I am going to be honest, it was a really poorly done movie. The writing was terrible...the directing was terrible...Julia Garner was terrible and the filming was terrible. It was like watching a high school auto visual class project. The only reason why I gave it two stars to begin with is because of the main subject matter and Lily Tomlin is one of my favorite actors. Yes, we need more movies about strong female role models and about a woman's rights and empowerment, but that doesn't mean every movie that comes along with this subject matter is a "home run". I think that they must have felt that there was no way this movie could fail, because the topic/s were so strong. If I asked anyone if they liked this movie, no one would have the stones to be honest. If I asked any man, they'd be afraid to say how crappy this movie was because they wouldn't want to offend women in general and if I asked any woman, they'd be afraid to say it was crappy because they would be too embarrassed to look weak and submissive. There is a lot of issues that needed to be addressed in this movie and were, but it was done poorly! I did not like the movie and I think that it might have hurt woman's rights more than help them! In conclusion: This move was a snore fest. The character development, acting and direction was terrible. I can not recommencement this to anyone.
The Survivalist (2015)
Very interesting movie that stays with you!
It is hard to write a review about this movie without giving away too much and spoiling it, but it was very interesting. There were really no "Hollywood Heroes" or explosions. It was, like the title says, about "survival". No! It is not like the "Hunger Games". It is much too real and that is what's scary! I find myself thinking about this movie from time to time and this is how I rate movies. If a movie stays with you...then it was well done. It is a dark, well directed film with quality acting. Yes, it is depressing, but I would suggest giving it a chance. Remember, it's not about rainbows and puppies!
The Trust (2016)
Could have been a really good movie, but sadly ... NOT!
I read a few comments on other websites which stated that this movie was a flop. I like some of the stuff that Nick Cage and Elijah Wood have done on their own. So I thought them acting together, might work. I was right. I gave it a shot. I found right off that the character development was excellent. Also writing seems humorous and intriguing. So you may ask why I only rated it "one star". Without giving away any of the movie, the ending was very disappointing. So much so, that I wish I didn't watch it. Well, I can't recommend this to anyone. At least the actors got paid. It wasn't their fault. It was just bad writing and direction. Yes, I said "direction". The director could have demanded a rewrite of the last 15 minutes of the film, but did not.
The Unfolding (2016)
This film has the feel of a C+ High School project, but the acting is worse!
This sucked so loud that it was deafening! The filming was a cross between "Blair Witch Project 2" and a high school a/v class project. I doubt that their budget was over $1000. Just because it is a low budget amateurish film, doesn't mean that it had to be so bad. Cliché plot and substandard acting (if you can call it that). It starts off slow with poor attempt at character building, then gets even slower. It does have a couple of 'that might be scary in real life, but not on a screen'moments. The end was predicable and disappointing. If I had of paid to see it, I would have asked for my money back within the first 15 minutes. Don't waste your time on this. Even if you download it, it wouldn't be worth your bandwidth. The worst horror film that I've ever seen.
Mr. Robot (2015)
I was looking for a good TV series and sadly this is definitely NOT it!
When I read synopsis/plot/reviews and saw such a high rating, I believed and wanted this series to "wow"me. Well at least be interesting enough to watch. Well, I was very disappointed. I did what the entire lengthy pilot. I gave it a chance even though it didn't feel right from the get go. It's like it was created by no talent hacks on a whim. It has every cliché in the book and is painfully predictable. I watched the second episode and it went from bad to horrible. BTW, this is my genre and it is a relevant topic of today's society, but it's very poorly written and very poorly acted. Even with Christian Slater in it. I know that my review means nothing, because there are obviously thousands of IMDb users that loved it. I just had to say my piece.
House Party: Tonight's the Night (2013)
Not worth your time to watch!
A agree with the other review. The original "House Party" with actors/rappers Kid and Play was not the best movie in the world, but at the time it was a fun movie for that age group. This movie is cheaply done with no production values. Acting is pathetic! It's like you are watching a HD video from someones phone of a high school student's audio visual project. It's not funny...anywhere! I want to know who I should talk to get the hour and a half back that I wasted of my life watching this! I wasn't expecting much, but was still disappointed! How do people like this get the funding/backing/money to produce these garbage movies?
