Maybe the Worst Movie I Have Ever Seen!
8 September 2010
This movie is terrible. Even if you are tempted by the possibility of seeing Jennifer Beals partially clothed, DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THIS DRECK. The plot made no sense whatsoever. The plot line was incoherent in the extreme. I kept wondering if this movie was meant to be a joke, but it kept taking itself so serious that I could never tell. The acting in this waste of film is among the worst and over the top I have ever seen. Nicholas Cage does do a good job of proving many peoples suspicions that he is a poor actor who only has two characters, sad and totally deranged. He chews the scenery like he has a chainsaw. Jason from Friday the 13th has more subtlety to his character than Cage. This could have been a half way watchable flick without Cage. Others do a reasonable job with the standout being Elizabeth Ashley, for once underplaying her role. PLEASE, PLEASE Do not waste you time unless you want to see Ms. Ashley in a rare moment of being on low.

Vincent Price?
17 November 2009
This film is some piece of work I will give it that. Seldom have I seen such a bizare movie. Somewhere I read that Vincent Price was supposed to make a cameo in this film. But unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your opinion on Vincent Price as well as The Magic Christian)he was unable. This was supposedly because filming on The Witchfinder General (or The Concoring Worm)went over schedule. So Price was unable to make a cameo appearance like Christopher Lee, Laurence Harvey and Yul Brynner. Has anyone else heard this story? And if you have heard it, where? I cannot find where I read that story. And I cannot recall where I read it. I don't think it was in the book by his daughter though. Thoughts?

Firepower (1979)

I Love this Movie!
17 November 2008
Warning: Spoilers
This is a great movie. Now I am not saying that it is perfect but quite enjoyable. Its got great stars and the scenery makes you want to get on a plane for the Caribean. It is clear that the character of Carl Stegner is based to a certain degree on Howard Hughes. Billionaire, reclusive industrialist who has not been seen in years. Traveling at the center of a large entourage, that was Hughes in the 70's. James Coburn is fantastic in this role. He never fails to make the character of Jerry Fannon believable. O.J. Simpson is pretty good too only lapsing unbelievable when waxing nostalgic on the boat with Coburn and Sophia Loren. If anyone is off the mark in this one its Loren. She is great in spots but dos'nt seem to interested at other times. Tony Franciosa brings his usual blow torch intensity to the role. To enjoy Firepower you cannot take it too seriously. Enjoy it for what it is. Great cast full of recognizable faces, beautiful scenery and a fairly good plot. What else does one need?
