Nobodies (2017)
So far, it's more annoying than funny.
I've watched all the episodes so far, and I just don't get what the appeal of this mess is. It seems like they just keep doing the same sort of thing, again and again, and it goes nowhere. The guest stars haven't been all that great either. It's kind of like the episodes of "Mash" where Sidney the shrink comes to the 4077th, just painful. The thing about Mash was, the episodes without him were mostly pretty good, not this train wreck.
Diamonds Are Forever (1971)
You never know what the future will bring.
I thought this one was a lot of fun when I saw it when I was 15 years old, and it still amuses me. Of all the Connery Bond movies, Never Say Never is the worst, and Thunderball is close behind. Is it great? No. But it's not bad, and IMHO, is a lot better than some of the later ones with Roger Moore who was too old at the end of his run. I thought Mr Kidd and Mr. Wint were very amusing, Bruce Glover resembled a neighbor of mine at the time, which would have mortified the neighbor, a nutty guy that tried to stab my dog with a pitchfork once. Jimmy Dean was fine, as was most of the cast.
I never had a clue I would move to Las Vegas 1n '75, and in 1979 start working in a Hotel (Nevada Hotel, 235 S. Main, closed now, and it appears to have been bought by the Golden Nugget for some future project) built where the car chase was filmed! And then a year or so later, I was driving on the opposite side of town from where I lived and saw the "Slumber Inc" building! I thought it was just a building with a fake front on it in the movie, but it was the real thing, a funeral home, with a different name, of course. I can't remember if it was "Bunker Brothers" or something else now, But I went inside and it appeared the inside of the building was used for at least some of the scenes that took place in it.
Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens (2015)
Abrams needs to be prevented from ruining any more movie franchises!
I wanted to like this movie. I really did, but I just couldn't. It was lifeless in general, with a beyond weak main bad guy, and a heroine who was magical in her abilities far beyond anyone in the previous movies except the Emperor himself. The special effects were OK, but damn, the lens flares need to be stopped. JJ ruined the hyperspace effect just like he ruined warp drive in ST. I hope that like "The Empire Strikes Back", the next one is a lot better. Since JJ won't be directing, there is some hope. I doubt I will see it in the theater, I will probably borrow a friend's copy like I did with "E7-TFA".
All in all, a huge disappointment in so many ways, and this movie moves JJ into second place behind M. Night as directors whose movies I will never, ever see.
Cutter's Way (1981)
I've never been able to get through this without zoning out by an hour.
I think this movie is overrated, it's not at all "important". as some people seem to believe. It's not all bad though.
I saw this in the theater when it originally came out and wasn't impressed much. The performances are fine, but there is something about it, even after seeing it probably six times over the years, that makes me not give a damn about it. Maybe it's just the general "downer" theme, I don't really know what it is. I'm not a young person who finds movies like "The Godfather" too slow, because they actually tell a story, but this movie seems way too long. Not worth watching again, I don't think I will suddenly say, "Wow, I missed that!", but worth watching at least once.
Godzilla (2014)
Too much soldiering and bad casting on top of it.
I hated the 1998 movie, and I really wanted to like this one, but I just couldn't do it. I thought the casting was fine, except the main character, Ford, was badly cast and was used way too much. Just too much "soldiering" in general. I really have no clue why he was chosen, there had to be someone better available. I felt like they went wrong with the way they "exposed" the mutos and Godzilla too. I think a better way would have had the first Muto tear up Japan, with Godzilla showing up just a little too late, and maybe show the Muto flying away, with Godzilla watching, and then turning around, and start heading for Hawaii. A CNN anchor could have been shown saying, "What the hell is that thing?". In the meantime, have Muto #2 come out, and SHOW it trashing Vegas, then go back to Hawaii, where "round 1" of the Godzilla/Muto fights happens, with Godzilla beating up the Muto pretty badly, and then having the military screw him up by lobbing shells at him, and the Muto gets away, and heads for the US mainland. Godzilla heads for Frisco, while Muto #2 and then Muto #1 screw around, totally trashing the city, laying their eggs, etc, along with destroying the Navy pretty easily with a lot of stuff blowing up. About the time they finished off the military, Godzilla shows up and the big finale happens, with a similar outcome to what happens in the movie that was actually made. I think just cutting the Ford screen time alone would have made a better movie. Putting a better actor in the Ford part would have, too. If the Godzilla/Muto fights could have been done better, in an escalating way, it would have pretty much erased all the negatives of the Ford character and all the "soldiering", but it didn't. All in all, a disappointment.
Treme (2010)
Too much music, not enough story.
I loved The Wire, but not this show, I gave it a shot, but I can't even say I like it much. Way too much music. Even a friend from NO says the same thing. It stops the story dead in it's tracks. Without all the music, each episode could easily hold two episodes worth of story, with time left over, but this isn't it's main problem. This show reminds me of "Cop Rock", a decent show ruined by the cops breaking into song all the time, just as something was finally happening. Treme could be a good show, if the music was gone or just reduced, all the other parts are there, casting, the basic stories, and the locations. I gave it two full seasons, and I'm done with it.
