Melody on Earth (2018)
A Black and White Rainbow...
I walked away from Melody on Earth, wondering what in the solar system I had just witnessed.
It's pretty... "unique" and I must confess, I've never seen anything, anywhere even remotely close to, like it.
It left me thinking, hey, I should make a movie. I mean, if Crazy Ants Media can make that...
I won't give any spoilers but I can say that the lead female is a pure joy to watch. I've never seen her in anything else but when she was on the screen, I had a strange smile on my face and didn't even realize it.
The lead male is unforgettable. The way this guy smokes, does his sit ups, chases a bad guy, yeahs, there should be an award for him somewhere but, I'm not sure what category it would belong to.
The other characters are just as hilarious while being extremely difficult to watch.
Please don't misunderstand. This is a great movie, you can feel the film maker's passion just ooze from every scene.
The universe needs more small movie makers like these guys.
But it is not what you, or I, or anyone really, is used to.
If you go into it expecting plot or special effects, you're going to be disappointed.
If you watch it with a special someone, and leave your judgement at the door, you will find something very special, almost, magical.
Buttwhistle (2014)
Pieces for you, Peaces for some...
Once in a while, a movie comes along and just breaks everything you thought you knew about movies. Buttwhistle is not an "ordinary" movie and I don't think many people will find interest in it. It doesn't have huge actors with million dollar paychecks. It doesn't have special effects that make your eyes drool. It doesn't have big lows followed by gigantic highs. And really, this movie sorta divides it's audience. It asks you, are you feeling cerebral tonight..? Buttwhistle is like a thousand piece jigsaw puzzle, crammed into a clear plastic ziplock bag. If you have the time and the desire, you can dump those pieces on your mental workspace and try to find a few that will fit together. But without a "box" or a cover, you have no idea what you're building so things soon become rather confusing. Why is the sun where the ground should be, there can't be dirt where the sky should be. Can there..? We struggle to see the relationships between the characters because again, no cover, no image of our puzzle to copy from. This movie has surprising moments of humor laced throughout and it might be said that that's the only thing keeping you from pushing this puzzle off your space. There are also some truly beautiful female actresses, some scenes with gorgeous boobs so that might also keep you motivated. But the big surprise doesn't smack you in the face at the end. It doesn't show you where the last piece fits. It lets you struggle, much like the lead character, even when there's only one piece left and you're sure it simply has to fit. And it's this "use a hammer to make it fit" mentality that stunned me for after it appeared before me, puzzle complete, I could finally see what it was that I had been building. And wow, have you ever seen something that you just couldn't get out of your mind, like, forever..?

The World Around Us...
Wow! What can be said about a movie with such a devastating topic. Apparently, from reading some of the comments in the forums, lots. People seem to like to focus on the negatives don't they. They want to zoom right in with their high powered microscopes. They want to pick and pull apart the parts that affected them and they want others to agree with them. I am no different. Sure there was a lot to talk about. Sure you can say that the actors said some things that they might not've, had they thought about things. But we all misspeak. We all open our mouths before we consider all that our words can mean.
This movie has a simple way of shocking. If you're not somewhat experienced in kidnapping movies, this one will make you malfunction inside for a week or two. Why do we make such movies, why do people want to share their stories and "profit" from this horror..? The answer might be easy to overlook.
If you need to reconsider bringing kids into this world, if you need to compare how you spend the little time left in your life... If you need a reason to hug your kids and are struggling to find the love that they need... If you feel like you might be missing something from your life... Watch this movie. If you find that after watching this movie, you don't cherish every minute of your life, you don't remember every moment with your loved ones, you might be more of a monster than Wolfgang's mother.
Should we stop making movies about the horrors of our world, it won't make them stop happening. Should we stop "feeling" and sympathizing and paying real attention to the world around us, it's time for someone to put us in a cage for eight years.
