Ruby in Paradise (1993)

Charming and Endearing Character Study

Ruby in Paradise is a lovely film about a young woman fleeing a past that is never completely disclosed (though it is suggested that she was in an unfortunate, possibly abusive relationship prior to the beginning of the film) to create a new beginning for herself in a resort town in Florida. Ashley Judd plays the role of Ruby with matter of fact sincerity as she navigates through her new circumstances.

I wouldn't say this movie is for everyone, but having recently watched it 27 years after the last time I saw it, I would say that it still holds up.

Captain Marvel (2019)

I loved it

I went into the movie with no real expectations and spoiler free. I enjoyed the movie, enjoyed the story, enjoyed the characters and thought Brie Lawson nailed it. I look forward to the next film featuring Captain Marvel as it's central character.

I want more films like this.
