The Revenant (I) (2015)

"The Revenant" is brilliant. It is a bleak film about revenge, survival and the Human Spirit. It is pure Cinema and needs to be seen on the big screen to fully appreciate it. It is intense, thrilling and a very immersive experience. It fully justifies its length. Give Leo Dicaprio that damn Oscar. He was great and shows once again what a versatile Actor he is. Tom Hardy and Will Poulter deserve major credit as well. Hardy might have been doing anything one of his trademark "voices", but he was stellar as a wide eyed, unhinged, and aggressive villain. The much hyped Bear scene was terrifying and brutal. The fight scene at the end has to be the most gory and intense fight scene since "The Raid 2". I swear even Tarantino would have said this movie was too brutal at times. This movie made Bear Grylls look like a Poser. Everything was on point in this movie, from the acting to the directing and cinematography. Alejandro Inarritu deserves the Best Director Oscar again. The man's passion shines on screen. If this movie wins Best Picture I won't mind because I can't really fault it. It's definitely a Must See for both Men and Woman. 10/10

The Gift (VI) (2015)

The Most Must See Movie of the Summer
13 August 2015
"The Gift" is the most must see movie of the summer. It is such a compelling thriller from start to finish. Just when you think you know where it's going it throws in a twist you won't see coming. Hat's off to Joel Edgerton, Jason Bateman and Rebecca Hall, who all give great and very subtle performances. All 3 leads are multilayered and engaging. Edgerton is great as a sweet but social awkward loner. Bateman plays a smug condescending douche to a T and Rebecca Hall was very likable. It's nice to see her in a great movie again. It's disturbing, gripping and thought provoking. It has the best ending to a movie I have seen all year long. It is this year's "Nightcrawler". In terms of plot and execution I would say that this and "Inside Out" are easily the best movies of the Summer. Along with this "Unfriended" and "It Follows". it has been a damn good year for Thrillers. Rush out to see it. A Film that has to be seen with an audience 8.6/10

The Best Summer Blockbuster of the 2015
13 August 2015
"Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation" is the best Summer Blockbuster of the year. Very fun, entertaining, tense and has Wit. It's a film of two halves. The 1st half it has all the great action sequences and the 2nd half it's a battle of wits and has all the spy espionage stuff. Tom Cruise proves once again why he is an Icon. By doing his own stunts and always being charismatic and likable. Rebecca Ferguson who played Ilsa deserves major praise. She was a legitimate Bad Ass female. She was able to be tough, mysterious and alluring and still maintained her femininity. She wasn't some skinny actress beating up men twice her size. She actual took quite a beating in some scenes. She was easily the best female character of the whole franchise. The Villain wasn't very complex but he did do some despicable things so you wanted to see him get his Ass whopped. Overall it's everything you want from an Action movie. Run like "Tom Cruise" to the Cinema to see it. 8.5/10

Amy (III) (2015)

It's sad, depressing, interesting and very insightful
9 July 2015
"Amy" The Amy Winehouse Documentary is brilliant. It's sad, depressing, interesting and very insightful. You feel like a fly on the wall as you watch raw video footage throughout that shows you that there were various factors that lead to her Drug addiction and untimely death. It shows you that she wasn't just a dumb junkie but from a young age she was a very mentally troubled person. She had a lack of discipline at a young age. Her Father neglected her as a child. But he had no problem using her as a meal ticket once she became famous. She had various mental issues such as depression and bulimia. Whilst I don't condone Drugs the doc does show you how and why people try and get hooked on them. The Doc is very fair in showing the good side and bad side of Amy. Ultimately it leaves it up to you to make your own judgement about her. My only gripe is that Amy's final Boyfriend Reg Traviss isn't in it at all. This is a huge omission considering he was with her until she died. Overall it is an amazing documentary that is thought provoking and will create a debate between people. RIP Amy 9/10

"Avengers: Age of Ultron" is a Meh and an unremarkable movie.
30 April 2015
"Avengers: Age of Ultron" is a meh and an unremarkable movie. Just when I thought Marvel was starting to Mature with "Guardians of the Galaxy" & "The Winter Soldier" ,they go right back to making a generic soulless superhero movie you have seen a 100 times before. I am still waiting for them to pull a "The Dark Knight" and make a movie that is unpredictable and completely flips the script. They crammed & rushed so much in this movie. Ultron is Evil right away. They don't even touch on why Tony is back as Iron Man despite retiring in "Iron Man 3", making the end of that movie redundant. They try to give Hawkeye some depth which just feels like 4 movies too late. There's a forced romance between Black Widow & the Hulk which comes out of nowhere. Despite Black Widow being a female Christian Grey all this time with her mysterious and secretive personality. Now all of sudden she's jonesing and wanting to take a shower with The Hulk. Also Jesus Christ there's so much repetitive Power Rangers/ Transformers level action. Say what you will about "Fast & Furious 7". But at least all the action scenes were memorable, intense and entertaining. The action scenes aren't engaging because there's no tension. We all know no one is going to Die because there's so many bloody sequels coming out over the next 5 years. The action scenes quickly become White Noise. Hell even "Cinderella" a Disney family movie was more visually stunning and engaging. The only pro's is the Banter between The Avengers, some funny one liner's, Scarjo's cute nose and Elizabeth Olsen finally getting some recognition. The movie just feels like it was made in a factory. No heart just a business transaction. Skip this "Cultural genocide" and wait for the Blu Ray. "Fast and Furious 7" and "Cinderella" put this movie to shame. 6/10

Birdman is Fantastic. A truly mesmerising film
17 March 2015
Birdman is fantastic. A truly mesmerising film. That takes the Mickey out of so many relevant topics like Social media, Ego, Celebrates, Superhero movies and everyone's desperation to be relevant. Everyone played their part perfectly. Keaton was spot on and you have to give him credit for being in a movie which basically makes fun of his life and career. Emma Stone was great as his Druggie and very Skinny daughter. Edward Norton was hilarious, he hasn't been this good in years. Naomi Watts continues to be one of my favourites. Even Zach Galifianakis was very good playing a normal and serious character for a change. This movie will make you LOL and energise you. The effort to make it look like one continuous shot has to be admired. Birdman is basically a Schizophrenic mixture of Curb Your Enthusiasmn, Black Swan and that TV Show "Smash". 10/10

Whiplash (2014)
10/10
A brilliantly tense movie
17 March 2015
"Whiplash" is a brilliantly tense movie. It has a nice 90's feeling to it. The mental and physical battle between the ruthless instructor and the talented young drummer was so well written. It reminded me a little bit of Ari Gold & Llyod's relationship in "Entourage". JK simmons's performance as the instructor is very good but a lil overrated. I personally think Miles Teller was better as the Drummer, because his character had more layers to it. Whilst the instructor is straight up unlikeable. The drummer skips around from likable to unlikeable throughout the whole movie. I also like how it asks the question "Where is the line between motivation and abuse?" It is edited to perfection. Not a dull or false moment throughout. A Must See! 10/10

Paddington (2014)

A Wonderful warm hug of a movie
17 March 2015
"Paddington" is Bloody Brilliant. It's sweet, current, very clever and very funny. I was actually quite shocked at how funny it was. I laughed from beginning to end. There's a lot of smart Adult jokes that will go over the kid's heads. I really liked how it dealt with a lot curret issues such as immigration and how British values have changed over the years. Hugh Bonneville was great as a Colin Firth/ David Cameron esque snooty father stuck in his ways. Nicole Kidman was enjoyable as an Evil Taxidermist wearing "F**k me Boots", Sally Hawkins who I am a big fan of proved once again how versatile she is playing the "Airy Fairy" mother. Also kudos to the 2 child actors. They weren't too childish or cute. They felt like 2 realistic children you might actually know. I hope this movie becomes as big as "Frozen" did last year. If you have kids take them to see it. Hell even if you don't have kids go and see it. I can't believe I enjoyed this more than "Mocking Jay Part 1" and "Interstellar". It's a Wonderful warm hug of a movie that will put a smile on your face. 9/10

Interstellar (2014)

"Interstellar" is a Mixed bag
17 March 2015
"Interstellar" is a Mixed bag. As far as the visuals go it is a 10/10. There are 2 really emotional scenes. One of them involving a Video montage that is brilliant. McConaughey & Mackenzie Foy from "Twilight" who plays Lil Muprh are very good. The movies biggest problem is the script. The movie really fails in convincing you that the World is going to end. They just show you 1 little Town and never mention other Countries. Also apart from Cooper and Murph there aren't any other characters to care about. I was a bit of a Hathahater last year when Hathaway was acting all pretentious, smug and saying things like "I will use my Awards as Weapons against self doubt". But I looked into those Big Doe eyes and her Pale skin and forgave her. In this She goes from being smart to putting everyone in danger because of stereotypical female emotions. Poor Jessica Chastain had to play a Daddy Issues Monster and look demented into the camera. The space crew is the most disorganised Space crew I have ever seen. Carrie Mathison needed to show up and take charge. The ending is laughable and nonsensical. Nolan needed to stop overthinking everything. With all the plot holes there is no way this is the Smartest movie ever made. "Her", "District 9" & "Inception" were all smarter than this because they were more straight forward with their ideas. Overall it is an entertaining movie and it's impossible to be bored by it. It just tries so hard to be smart and in the end it just isn't as smart as it thinks it is. 7.3/10
