Evidence (1995)
Excellent Short
A very well done short film which touches on the relationship between television and young children. As I stared at them, I also realized that I was doing the very same thing they were, staring blankly at the screen. In case you were wondering, the children were watching "Dumbo" on the screen.
Very experimental and conceptual, I quite enjoyed it. As always, Phillip Glass delivers a well done soundtrack to accompany it.
This is considered a rare short to find, however Fabrica (which had Godfrey Reggio serving as director of when this short was made) has it freely available for download on their website.
Sin City (2005)
Great Comic Movie!
Sin City was a great comic, and thus, a great movie. It isn't a realistic drama nor is it another Kill Bill type action fest. Instead, its an odd mixture of 50's noir; hard boiled cops (Hartigan) and tough guys (Marv) along with a host of other typical noir characters fight for their women in a city full of corruption and sin. Its a merger of old school noir and modern day action, and what a mixture it is. The cinematography is superb, with some really striking imagery (white silhouettes instead of regular black ones is one of the easiest examples of this stylistic approach).
All in all, its an excellent tribute to the comic, which itself is a great tribute to the noir genre of film.
