Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022)
Probably the worst Marvel production so far.
Although Marvel has been lately delivering one disaster after the other I had some hopes on this one... Black Panther was an interesting character and the story arc had potential.. Alas i was proven wrong.. Wakanda Forever is an incosistent mess of ridiculous superhero cliches, indifferent characters, combined with 'politicaly correct' nonsense, below average special fx, bad acting all coming together with a childish script and b-movie level directing.
The fact that they somehow managed to make this mess a 3hr runtime (!) movie is beyond me.. Take my advice and save yourself from enduring this.. stay away.
Berserk: Ougon Jidai-hen - Memorial Edition (2022)
The best version of a classic
In my view this is the absolute best version of the Goldern Age story ark (AKA Season 1) of Berserk. An absolute MUST SEE for any Anime enthusiast. Yes I understand that it does skip some of the lore from the manga but the core of the story arc is there and polished to its absolute best! I tried also going through the original 1997 version that many claim as more accurate but I absolutely could not digest the low res designs and the crappy cheap animation.. If you can endure with this maybe you can get some more depth in the lore from the older version but be aware that it is also incomplete at many points and leaves you with a cliffhanger... We need more Berserk at the Memorial Edition quality!
Moonfall (2022)
Interesting idea, disastrous execution.
When I seen the trailer I have to say I was intrigued: Hollow moon idea, extinction level event, aliens, a good cast...
The execution however proved to be an absolute disaster.. Bad acting, directing, meaningless plot, mediocre fx, completely unrealistic physics, superficial characters... I ve seen video game cutscenes that are x10 times better and more coherent than this..
Another interesting idea turned into a bad movie.. pitty..
Halo (2022)
Actually quite good
Being an old fan of Halo franchise since the first videogame I was waiting for this one.
I reviewed it intitially at episode 2 as being average but having now whatched 8 episodes i can say it delivers above my expectations. The plot and characters are interesting, acting and directing is above average, the special FX are good .. and with my limited exposure to the HALO franhise I believe does justice to the videogame at least the first one as i remember it. All in all a good SciFi series that will keep fans of the genre satisfied.
AVPR: Aliens vs Predator - Requiem (2007)
Awful.
By far the worst movie in the Alien/Predator franchise. Low budget, bad scenario, bad acting, bmovie grade FX, super dark scenes to cover the absence of creature fx... Stay away.
Tenet (2020)
Nice idea, badly executed
I am not sure why there was such hype around this movie.. The idea was interesting, the acting above average the action scenes decent but the plotline was a total mess and failed miserably to capture the audience interest. Disconnected, meaningless dialogues, flat characters, irrelevant plot loops (SPOILER: not sure why the whole story with villains' wife and the .. ' fake painting' even existed), and a ton of plot holes and mistakes (SPOILER: travelling to past supposedly required wearing a mask with special breathable air but in half the scenes it was completely forgotten -appears characters build stronger lungs- or there was zero explanation where the air was coming from, just some tubes hanging from the mask to well... somewhere). No matter how hard I try to convince myself to like this movie, I just cant.
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
Mediocre at best
A bad sequel. Looks and feels more like a low budget b-movie than a DC production. Terrible script, very average acting - targetted for kids ages 5-12 max. Only reason for adults to watch is if you fancy Gadot in Wonderwoman costume which can be good enough I guess for some (did the trick for me :-) ).. Otherwise avoid.
The Witcher (2019)
Bravo Netflix! Really nailed this!
Having known the Witcher mainly from the games and much less from the books I can say that the production far exceeded my expectations! Henry Cavil seems born to play this role, fight scenes are amazing, cinematography and mood is extremely close to the games - even Geralt's voice, although producers are not openly admitting it is evident that they are heavily inspired by the very successful game series and its cutscenes. All positive to the extreme so far. If they play their cards right and don't go cheap in follow up seasons Netflix has a worthy successor of Game of Thrones at hand !
Game of Thrones (2011)
Amazing
Possibly the greatest TV show to date. Amazing story, acting, characters, production.. Only negative is that we only get 8 seasons of this masterwork, But alas all good things have an end. Dracarys!
The Dark Tower (2017)
A good introduction to the Dark Tower world
The long awaited Dark Tower film is a well acted and well directed. It is not perfect of course as no book adaptation can be perfect (except maybe from Lord Of The Rings trilogy) but it achieves its goal to give you a good taste of the amazing Dark tower world. A small taste with its 95min run it is true but yet a good one.
Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey are both great in their roles. Looking forward for more of the Dark Tower world.
The Shannara Chronicles (2016)
Excellent attempt on heroic fantasy from MTV !
A mixture of Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones and Twilight Saga nicely blend together with fine actors like Manu Bennett(Azog the Defiler in Hobit) starring as the macho Druid and Poppy Drayton starring as the gorgeous elven princess, top quality special-fx and an interesting story line based on Terry Brooks fantasy novels. I really enjoyed the first season and I am looking forward for several to come!! A must-see for all fantasy fans.
Congratulations goes to MTV for supporting this (obviously) expensive production and bringing a refreshing view of the heroic fantasy genre to our TV screens!
