Hostiles (2017)
Thrown in at the deep end from the start
Don't be fooled i to thinking this is a typical western, its anything but. From the very start I was thrown into the brutal and harrowing deep end of this period in history, although I'll be honest and say that I watched this movie with very little foreknowledge of that history, the movie seemed to portray a very believable reality, i can't comment on its accuracy. I don't recall watching a movie containing such deep sadness for a long time. I enjoy movies that stir my emotions whatever they may be, and in this case it was grief, anger, despair and hope. The beautiful scenery somehow helped keep a little hope alive throughout, and it wasn't until the last 30 seconds of the movie that hope is finally realised, although even then it's bittersweet. Great acting from the whole cast, and for once I didn't feel there was anything in this movie that wasn't necessary to the story. Slow, deep, and not a popcorn movie. Happy to include this movie as one of my all time favourites.
Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow (2004)
Amazing piece of cinema
I absolutely love this movie. It's one of the most visually creative movies I've ever seen, just the concept and how much effort has gone into making it look the way it does, it's genius. In a way it's a whole different cinematic style like 300 was, that's not to compare it but just to say it has a style of its very own. The story is fun, the stunts are, comic book impossible and that's the appeal. If I try to describe the style it won't do it justice, but imagine the future as someone in the 1930s may have imagined it.
Hacksaw Ridge (2016)
Amazing story, great movie
Been meaning to watch this for a while, expected a lot, and I was not dissapointed. Can't comment on the factual accuracy, but seems like an incredible story very well told. Brutally violent, little left to the imagination, but you can't tell a story like this without showing the full-on horrors of war. Gibson is establishing himself as a great director. Respect.
Alita: Battle Angel (2019)
Suprisingly good
Not really seen a movie that has main character animated and others actors. Plenty of action, cool plot. Had no expectations at all, and was really surprised. I'd watch it again.
