Cringingly bad....
23 November 2023
Was Liam Neeson really Oscar nominated? And now he's doing this kind of absolute pap! This is the kind of film that should never have been made. Every aspect is terrible. Poor acting, badly written, embarrassing attempts at humour - the list is unending. I read Liam has now given up on 'action' roles. I'm glad about that because his filter on quality gave up a long time ago. This is a rehash of every other revenge thriller mixed together and the result is a minced up pile of dog-doo. American Indian and a Caucasian drug battling over turf rights? Do me a favour and don't insult my intelligence.

Masterclass in film making

For those who attack this film, it appears to me that they're uncomfortable with the subject matter. It's distressing for the main, but I found it ultimately satisfying. The end was brief, but a relief and justifiable. Nicole Kidman was fantastic and Paul Bettany superb too. I loved the John Hurt voiceover and felt it fitted the feeling of the film. There is no doubt that the story is disturbing, but as a work of art, it's outstanding. I was unsure of the theatre/stage setup at first, but thought it worked really well. It's not a 'nice' watch, as it does show how bad people can be, and some prefer not to know this. I feel those with a negative view of the film may be those that hide their heads in the sand and pretend that bad stuff doesn't happen. It's probably the most reflective example of how the human being can be..

Is this supposed to be a comedy?

We're laughing like crazy at this. So bad it's brilliant. We really want to stop watching because it's truly awful, but we're intrigued as to how much worse it can get. Shocking, shocking quality acting and Ross Kemp really appears to not give a care as to whether he's there or not. A classic case of phoning in your role. The lady in the wheelchair must have got the role because they needed someone with a disability. Her main disability appears to be an inability to act. I don't recognise anyone else in the cast, so if it's true that it's filmed in Hungary, then maybe they picked this lot up on the way to the airport...

Nothing. Anywhere. Ever

What an absolutely smelly pair of old pants on a stick. I'd love to be on the panel of judges that award the Oscars, because I'd whip them into shape. This film is boring, the characters are uninteresting and the story line a big yawn. The special effects are not even that special. The film is at least an hour too long (probably two if the truth be told). It's repetitive and not very clever. I love Jamie Lee Curtis, but she really didn't impress me in this. Is there a bias towards 'foreign' films as a backlash to all the 'me too' kind of sexism and racism? If so, then that might go some of the way towards explaining what happened here.

It started well...

Rather disappointed. I read the other reviews and thought I'd give it a go anyway. It really did start well - probably for about an hour if I'm honest. Some camp humour and bit 'dodgy' special effects. The ending was really poor, such a flat and lazy finish. Interesting to see Mitchell from Modern Family playing himself in a different setting. Also interesting was two main characters from The Americans in the same film too. Was a low budget film? Well, some very recognisable stars in it, but ultimately very unsatisfying. Pity, as this could have been great. As it was based on a 'true story' that means at least there should be a sequel - should there???

Incredulous! Surely it's a comedy?

All that money and absolutely none of it spent on any kind of a storyline. It jumps around without any kind of consideration for any semblance of thought about the viewer. Any and every kind of cliché from divorcees fighting together to a 'crazy conspiracy theorist', to a washed-up astronaut saving the world. If it was made with an element of expectancy that it might do something at the box office, there's a lot of idiots holding a lot of money. Everything about this film (apart from the special effects - which are wasted on this pap) is garbage. There were parts of this film where I sat watching with mouth agape at just how terrible it was...

Cush Jumbo - terrible actor. What's James Nesbitt wasting his time on this for? Completely unfathomable and unbelievable. Easy to guess who the killer was, as they were the only person around (left) from the original period. Good very last minute twist though..

I watched this a few weeks ago and can't remember it....obviously just another of the run of the mill thriller types. I think it was about the entitled political people. Bit humdrum.

Not as bad as some suggest

Warning: Spoilers
OK, it's not brilliant and the story has more holes than a pair of 1960's undies, but it was an enjoyable yarn. Switch your brain off for 3 hours and indulge yourself in some right old pap. I couldn't help but keep asking my wife 'why hasn't he looked at the body?'...

I love Gervais and virtually all of his output over the last however many years. But this just passes me by. I can't feel anything for Derek - be it pity, annoyance, jealousy - nothing. Perhaps that's why I find it a pile of plop?

Superb, proper drama series
3 June 2022
Understated, excellent, not well-enough known about drama series. Well acted, well written and with a proper ending. Believable characters and only the occasional 'that wouldn't happen ' kind of vibe. Well worth watching.

Run of the mill drama

When you've only a few 'main' characters, it's not difficult to work out whodunnit. Take out the obvious did nots and it's easy to figure the dids. Some really unnecessary characters, who presumably were thrown in to pad out and try and throw the viewer off the scent, but it wasn't enough to figure out. Not very likeable people anyway. Might have been better if they'd all been taken to the woods and suffocated.

WHAT?....

What happened? I mixed up mess of a movie that could have been something. No sympathy for any characters - even the dead kids - they got a lucky escape from this pile of garbage. Absolute S**T.

I can't believe what I have just seen. Old dog plop is a compliment to this. Started quite interesting, then second half descends into unbelievable tosh. There are so many different films of this genre and this is rock bottom. A very poor man's Deliverance.

Masterpiece in comedy

Pensioners acting like children. Sounds absurd, but it works a charm. Endearing characters and brilliantly written parts for each and every star. Still amazingly a relatively underground gem after so many seasons.

Trying not to cringe at this absolute pap
24 April 2022
God it's awful. Just not possible to sympathise (if that's what we're supposed to do) with this central character. Half way through second episode and it's only still on because my wife seems to be enjoying it. Acting is poor and why is there only one character with a scouse accent. Hayley Mills is terrible as the creepy old woman that's just described her role in the 'shakedown'. She sounds like Larry the Lamb. Laughable it's so bad.

Arty-farty boredom

Don't waste your time. Absolutely nothing happens in what feels like a never ending period of time. Oscar nominated? For what? It's however much length of time that I'll never get back...I feel cheated...

Jake Gillinghall is a great actor. But this has to be the most boring snooze fest ever. Nothing, absolutely nothing happens. It's about on par with that piece of garbage Locke, with Tom Hardy. About 1.5 hours of my life I won't get back. 😒

Has Liam Neeson become a one-trick pony? Difficult to believe this guy was once oscar nominated and now he's stooped to doing this absolute pap. "It's a revenge film about a guy on his own" oooh! Let's call Liam. Just because he had a surprise hit with Taken, it seems all can do is this type of film now. Shame on you Liam.

Old pants on a stick..
5 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This could have been an interesting interpretation of the catfish genre and what happens in real life. It wasn't difficult to figure out Nick was innocent and that he'd been framed, but the 'actual' culprit(s) could have been any random person selected from anywhere - it just happened to be the school secretary! Who we hardly see until the last episode. Lazy, typical Netflix drama. There's no sympathy for the characters and engagement with them as they're all cardboard. A few hours of my life I won't get back.

This is often a forgotten Ronnie Barker series. I loved it, simple pleasant humour and a really loveable character. So much better than Open All Hours, which I cringe to watch.

I loved nearly everything Ronnie Barker did - but this - no. I found his character to be really annoying and unfunny. And it's got that nasty canned laughter..

It was pretty bad when originally released. Now? - don't go there. Just the kind of thing my mum loves, 'old lady humour'. Ok for people who are incontinent.

Surely we've seen enough of these 2 people? Same old jokes, no ideas. I'd have thought Ant would prefer to be down the pub....

4 March 2021
Horrible TV. The dragons sit there with an incredibly arrogant attitude "we've got loads of money, so let's see you oiks grovel and beg us for a little of it in return for a massive percentage of your ideas". If the ideas were really any good to start with, they wouldn't need these people to help them. I believe many of them use the program for free publicity for their ideas. Good for them.
