February (2015)
a 1 to balance out the overly high 5.9 score.
A 10 minute story into an hour and a half of a boring "artsy" horror movie. Exxxxxxxxxtreeeemely slow, wooden acting, and a complete waste of time.
Before I Fall (2017)
Another great movie, bites the dust in the last second.
I was wafting back and forth, almost hooked, although I knew the entire time this was a cheaper version of "Groundhog Day," but it was slowly beginning to sway me towards thinking the writer and director had a different take on the "same day over and over genre," which was worth watching.
Then at the last second, the horrifically bad ending showed just how 2nd rate the film really is.
What a horrible, I must repeat super horrible ending which completely tanked this film.
On the bright side the acting by Zoey Deutch, who single-handedly carried the film was extremely well played. Watch it, just to see how not to end a film. And yes I still gave it a generous 6, because till that last second, it was almost very good. Till that last brainless second.
A Perfect Getaway (2009)
misdirection
The thing that makes a mystery movie work is the misdirection. Who dunit is never who you think dunit. But the movie can't set up an unlikely villain, or villains in this case by in effect blatantly throwing the audience in the wrong direction with scenes that show the killer(s) can't be the killer(s).
I did not buy the ending or who dunit for a second, and that ruined the film for me.
The writer, and director need to be smarter in their misdirection. In this film they failed.
Re: Mind (2017)
As a public service this review is warning you to not waste your time.
Whenever I see a movie which wastes a couple of hours of my time, I feel that 2 hours of my life is not enough of a waste to warrant a feeling of being cheated of a substantial portion of my life. But when an episodic piece of crap wastes about 6 hours, I feel at the end of that monumental waste of time that it is my duty to warn others not to make the same mistake I made, and start this completely nonsensical, 12 episodic, snail crawling, hodgepodge of going nowhere dialogue, that only left me feeling angry at the end for putting me through the worst viewing experience I've ever had watching anything.
The main sin of this show is the first four episodes are actually fairly good, but at about the 7th episode you're wondering why you started this garbage in the first place.
In case I haven't made it clear, this is about the worst tv series I've ever been unfortunate to watch.
Skip at all costs.
The Bye Bye Man (2017)
Bad title, silly name, but get past that and give it a shot
I would ignore the bad reviews, and the low rating, and give it a shot. I guess most people these days don't understand the concept of a good horror movie. I almost passed because of the silly title, but I was entertained throughout.
Verónica (2017)
A 6.3 rating is way to low
I tend to enjoy foreign horror films, wondering when Hollywood will remake them and mess it up. This one will be on that list eventually once Hollywood gets ahold of it. In the meantime, if you like a fresh take on the occult, ouija board genre, this one is up there. Although you will have to do some reading along with your movie enjoyment. Spanish, and very intense.
Nocturnal Animals (2016)
1:54 seconds great, one minute lousy
I gave the movie a 7 because it was great. My only problem, without spoiling it, cause it's still worth watching, but what a terrible ending.
Wakefield (2016)
Keep hoping
First of all living in someones garage for a whole year and not getting noticed is impossible. This movie made no sense from start to finish.
