Willow: Prisoners of Skellin (2022)
And the writing gets even worse
The modern humour is still very at odds with the series and main "bad guys" of the episode lack any menace to them.
Some new actors add a little of gravitas, but it really is feeling too little too late as most of this feels like it's meandering and becoming even more over bloated.
It really feels like it needed better editing, writing, half the cast trimmed and put in to a movie rather than a series.
Jokes fall flat, Davis is soo monotone it's hard to tell and inflection in his performance.
The mishmash of accents also takers you out of the Emerson as nothing sounds cohesive or belonging to the same world. Poorly casted, poor clothing choices it's just overall very mediocre and underwhelming.
Clerks III (2022)
Not a return to form, but getting better.
I've been a fan of Smiths since the original Clerks and whilst this is not perfect or any where near his best work it's a fitting bookend.
The first act is, to be honest, as poor as anything Smith has done in recent years, but from the second act onwards it greatly improves with one of the highlights being the casting scene.
Smith dovetails his Askiewniverse and pulls it back towards the end of the movie and the cinematography also improves.
Since embarking on his journey down his addiction to weed Smiths abilities have faltered and his work become half baked, but occasionally he shows glimpses of the Smith of old, the occasional flare for a shot and the wit he once showed rears it's head the further you get in to the movie.
It's good, not great and possibly the weakest of the Clerks movies, but you can't recapture the lightening as much as this tries to.
Ryû to sobakasu no hime (2021)
A modern twist on a classic fairy tail
Has more emotional depth than anything Disney has put out in the last decade.
More a film about dealing with trauma and coming of age, some very deep messages and possibly a little disturbing for a younger audience as it does touch upon some subjects that might be hard to understand for younger children.
Definitely an anime for more mature kids and young adults, but really worth a watch.
Just don't expect any dancing candle sticks.
The Matrix Resurrections (2021)
Best bit is post credits scene
Twice as long as it needs to be. It's a self indulgent mess that tries too hard to be clever and Meta, yet fails at both. With better editing, cutting down the first hour and a half, expanding the world outside the machine world along with fleshing out things with more than just one line to explain things such as "x y Z just disappeared" this may have been a decent movie. Heard people snoring and saw several sleeping during the first hour.
Oh yes, the post credits scene is a nice little skit/outtake.
Honestly, this is one of the poorest movies I've seen in a long time.
The Lion King (2019)
Visually stunning but shallow
Aladdin which was a decent update of the animated version this is kind of soulless if you if your iver over age of 5.
There are several good to great performances Jones and Oliver never miss a beatbox whilst other little like Glover feel miscast and BEyonce shows why she should stick to singing: whilst not bad persay there is no nuance or emotion in the vast majority of her scenes.
Besides a few new jokes it's a shot Forbes shot remake and take an no chances.
If you have the animated original watch that and save yourself fifty bucks
The Shallows (2016)
It's not total shark poop.
When it comes to the work of Sully "Steven" Seagull I would have to say this is his best work.
He is dynamic, hits all lines and he works well with co-star Blake Lively. She is decent, but her performance doesn't quiet have the depth of Seagulls.
Over all it's an ok suspense/horror/cast away movie.
I'm hoping Sully gets more out of his co-stars next time.
Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2018)
Yikes this is too much of a departure.
It's not a terrible show, it just isn't the TMNT.
After the last show which hit so many right beats and got down to the essence of teenage Turtles, this is show just seems to be like some one saw an episode of Samurai Jack, made the animation worse/jaggard, wanted to make it more street and throw the turtles on as a desk top.
It doesn't get any better after the first episode either, if anything it's starts to go down stereotypes that come close to being borderline.
Could only recommend to fans of off the wall animation, not to turtles fans.
I can see this series failing hard with the fans of the franchise.
Eastman and Laird should never have sold their property away if this is how the new owners will treat it.
Hereditary (2018)
Big disappointment that's well shot.
First the good things: good cast, good cinematography, good effects.
The bad: the story is weak making the performances seem bizarely edited together and makes very little sense with certain jumps in logic, takes too long to kick, the cheap jump scares just aren't scary, the sound mix(and sound just in general) is abismally bad causing any type of attempt at atmospheric tension building falter before the first hurdle.
Probabaly the worst movie I've seen this year and marginally worse than Mother which was another pile of hot garbage.
I cannot see how this has such a high rating.
