Freaky (2020)

Nope, just no.
8 June 2023
Lasted around 10 mins....

The opening slasher sequences were the usual predictable fare, but I sort of expected it and was ok with that. The movie straight up jumped into every boring cliche ever:

The mourning mother that can't have her daughter have her own time/life The sullen sister complaining at the table, the mother nagging that they never sit down as a family for breakfast The gay bestie, that knows it all and is obsessed with his sexuality (and immediate crass jokes) The preachy best friend The mean girls The bullying teacher

I mean, seriously?! Did the writers not have a single original thought?!

I switched off and moved on to the next movie on my playlist.

The ending was a mess....

Warning: Spoilers
I really, really wanted to love this.

It looked as if the cast were having a blast and I wanted to enjoy the ride with them, regardless of whether the script was silly or not.

It had such promise, but every time Daniel Craig opened his mouth and I had to endure that accent, I wanted to throw up.

And then the ending.... smashing priceless art and setting the Mona Lisa on fire (fictitious or not) is literally unacceptable.

The Helen/Andie character is malicious, vindictive and childish. Yes, your sister died and you want answers. I get that. But smashing and burning art, depriving the world of pieces that have survived for centuries? No. Just no, no, no. Ruined the entire movie for me.

Infuriatingly irritating
25 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The plot literally doesn't make sense. If you have financial problems why would you remodel a perfectly good kitchen? If you're so scared that the wife and kids don't even want to sleep in the house why not put your money to better use and put up walls and a proper gate to keep out the annoying irrational neighbours?

And since when does adults in your circle all subscribe to your daughter's TikTok? It literally doesn't make any sense.

None of them were hurt (except the unfortunate ferret) so I don't understand their 'fear' either.

And then the daughter's ridiculous TikTok claiming the father hates the boyfriend because he is black. How absurd. Is this another one of those shows where the wokeness of society needs to be paraded? Anxiously awaiting the (obligatory gay scene).

This entire series is nothing but frustration and irritation. Ridiculous dialogue. Unlikable characters. I find myself almost wishing that something horrible would happen to them because none of them inspire even a modicum of sympathy.

Let's see if the final two episodes are better, but I sincerely doubt it.

It could've been so good...

This show could've been brilliant. Yes... there are some Blacklist echoes, but I'm ok with that.

Morena Baccarin is always a pleasure to watch. The rest of the cast is not too shabby either. But for the love of all series.... I'm ready to punch the screen every single time that Ryan Michelle Bathe comes on.

Overacting, over, over, over. Too much. Too loud. To obsessive. Too much everything. She is irritating the cr@p out of me and completely ruining the show.

Plus, her plotline doesn't even make sense. And ONLY she can figure everything out. They should just close up the FBI, go home and let her run everything. The rest of the actors/roles are just window dressing. So fricken annoying.

Bravo!

Finally... after watching a shedload of mediocre thriller/horror movies, this gem just popped up on Showmax.

I've been lusting after a really good (fairly unpredictable) horror/thriller so didn't have much hope that this one would deliver. The latest releases in this genre always fall short of my expectations. One Night In Soho delivered!

Thoroughly enjoyed the clothes, the music, the dialogue, the build-up. The main character plays her part perfectly. Her caught-in-the-headlights look works perfectly for her character... she portrays the country mouse in the big city to perfection.

Really, really enjoyed every second of the movie!

Abomination!!!!

Had to stop watching halfway into the movie... if I had to hear MM say 'daddy' once more, I'll lose it. Yes, her life was filled with tragedy... but she was much, much more than the wretched creature they're making her out to be. All involved in the writing, making, producing of this movie should be ashamed of themselves. Pathetic. The movie is bleak, painful, and filled with so much repetitive dialogue and dark, twisted imagery serving no real purpose. It completely ruins everything about MM. As if a fricken Kardashian wearing one of her dresses weren't horrendous enough, they had to go create this garbage. I'm beyond disappointed.

Terrible acting, ridiculous characters.

Amateur hour. Stopped watching after 45 mins. The only one that has some credibility is Jaq even she isn't that good. Waste of time.

The kid ruined the show!

I made it halfway through ep 1. I cannot stand the kid. Rude, obnoxious, tedious. Nah. My time is too precious to waste watching rude kids.

Just no.

I'm in the middle of episode 3 and honestly... I can't go on. If I have to hear one more 'perfectly splendid' I'll lose it. I wasn't expecting blood and gore, but it doesn't even make me feel slightly unsettled. A hard no from me.
