Nick Fury: Agent of Shield (1998)
Horrible movie that sets the lowered the bar for comic movies.
I say this movie's horrible, but if you love comics, you must see this.
This movie lowered the bar so much that any other movie to follow would be amazing. That's why we loved X-Men and we loved Spider-Man.
Let me explain what's wrong with this movie.
1. David Hasselhoff is in the film. 2. David Hasselhoff is Nick Fury, the protagonist. 3. The overall casting is horrible. 4. This was early David S. Goyer writing... and it shows. 5. There is very little plot... it was probably developed from one issue of a SHIELD comic... 22 pages becomes a 2 hour movie. 6. This movie was shot in 2 weeks. 7. The special effects are completely non existent. 8. This movie makes Dolph Lundgren look like a great actor. 9. Nick Fury lives in a cave with concrete walls that, for some unknown reason, he bashes with a pick axe. 10. There are no shots of SHIELD's base (which is supposed to be flying above the earth). 11. The continuity of the film is horrible. 12. Their are several times when the sound doesn't match the movie. 13. David Hasselhoff is Nick Fury.
I hope I covered it all.
Tomcats (2001)
Fun, energetic comedy that is worth several viewings.
This movie is funny. A lot of people expect too much of comedies, especially now. This movie is classic. There's a lot of vulgar humor but it's really funny, not generic and cliché like American Pie and all the terrible sequels.
This movie is well written, and more importantly, well executed. If you like comedies that have a lot of energy and a lot of humor, you'll love this movie.
The star studded cast is just a bonus in this flick. Where else can you find such a variety of actors. Jerry O'Connell, Jake Busey, and Horatio Sanz are three completely different personalities and when they meet on screen it's great entertainment. This is a movie that can be appreciated by guys and girls even though it's billed as a "guy's" movie. I'm not a big fan of Shannon Elizabeth but I think she was right for this movie. There are several other actors in this film and it's fun to recognize this as their "start" in show biz.
Everyone should watch this movie once.
Batman Begins (2005)
A movie that truly represents the Caped Crusader
As a lifetime fan of the Batman, I have to say that this is the greatest Batman movie ever made. I am one of the biggest Tim Burton fans and this movie blows Burton's films (which were spectacular) completely out of the water.
This movie not only raises the bar for Batman movies, it raises expectations for ALL comic based movies. The Marvel films pale in comparison to this film.
There is some grumbling in the "Batman" community that the film wasn't dark enough. However, I have read 70% or more of the Batman catalog and this is the ONLY movie that has perfected Batman. Some people have expected a Batman that slaughters villains and is non-stop action. This film mixes the correct amount of wit, ability, and vengeance. Remember, Batman started as a detective. So many times, people expect Batman to show up and knock someone around and then fly away. Burton's Batman was more of a smash and grab guy and that was great... but this movie is presents a great story with a great Batman. This movie can be enjoyed by any true Batman fan as well as any movie fan. This movie has so much depth that almost anyone could enjoy the movie.
The Batman is not a killer, but the movie is somewhat dark and is not suitable for younger children. However, if a child is mature and can handle some violence and understands the Batman story (and can determine fiction and reality) then the movie would be great. This movie reaches across all demographics and satisfies everyone. In fact, the people that complain about this movie are those people that are never satisfied. They probably loved Citizen Kane... and don't even try to tell me that's a classic. Anyone who's sat through that borefest knows it's garbage.
Bells of Innocence (2003)
A Must See for Everyone Everywhere!!!
This is quite possible the worst movie ever made. I know people talk about how horrible Ed Wood movies were (Plan 9) but this movie makes Plan 9 look amazing.
Chuck Norris makes a cameo, for what reason I have no idea. Perhaps to ruin his movie career. Aside from Chuck Norris, the movie's cast consists of extras in daytime soaps and Mike Norris... that's right, Chuck's son.
This director doesn't even have a resume and I have no idea where the plot or screenplay originated. This must've been green lit by a horrible Southern Baptist minister that somehow had a 3rd cousin that owned a studio (which I'm sure has since been shut down).
I don't really know what else to say about this movie. I would like to give you a plot summary but I'm lost. There is something about Jesus and Satan... some eternal battle. Other than that there are Indians. And a bunch of freaky kids that don't know how to act... they're just awkward and should not be on camera. I don't know what was going on most of the time but I know the movie was a great laugh. Mike Norris pushes his daughter (on her bike) into the street somehow... but in the shot he's in the middle of the park. So somehow she learns to ride her bike with speed equivalent to that of The Flash and gets hit by a car or bus... I don't know. But she's dead. This is actually the funniest scene in the movie. I know that sounds sick but once you see Mike raise his hands in victory and then hold his head and scream in terror... you'll understand. It doesn't show the daughter getting hit or anything... you just have to assume she got hit by some vehicle. But, the movie's not clear. So maybe it was completely unrelated and she died from cancer. Anyway... after that the movie gets really confusing and I have no idea what really happens. I am a Christian and I have no idea why this movie was made. I don't see any value for this movie in a religious or non-religious sector. This is probably the first thing they show students in Film-making 101... this is what you DON'T want to do.
Just see it... you'll hate it and me for suggesting that you see it.
The Batman (2004)
Mediocre or Better
Some have bashed this show. I personally enjoy the new animated series. Of course, I prefer Batman: The Animated Series. This show is aimed at a younger group and is not for true comic fans. The 1992 cartoon often revolved around deep plots and great story lines. The new cartoon is much faster and involves a lot more action. Not a bad mix. The reason I support this new show is that the old show got yanked because kids didn't like the show. I think this show will last a lot longer because it is targeted more to children.
Even the original series had changes toward the end. Remember the name change to "The Adventures of Batman and Robin." This was simply a way to include Robin more so that children could relate more with the show. Robin was only created so that kids would relate themselves to the character. Kevin Altieri even admitted that the changes were made to boost ratings.
The new series involves a lot of the original's stories. For example, the first episode was the ManBat, just like the old series. There are several similarities and I think any fan of the old series will enjoy the new series. The old series is far better but I still think this new series is pretty good.
