Awful
15 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Modernizing a fairytale must be done with class and beauty in order to keep the integrity of its original magic and charm. This retelling of The Little Mermaid was basically a story of "What would happen to the mermaid if she came out of the sea and found herself at a kegger in some trashy town full of vulgar alcoloholic men?" In a nut shell, that's what happens in this film. Her first night on land, she is pulled out of a pool by a drunken man who had just pissed on a tree. He tells her she's "smokin' hot". She then sleeps with an arrogant cad who tells her she looks like sh%t the next morning. She then gets a job at a strip club where men proceed to make icky comments to her about her body. Gross. Just about the worst re-imagining of any story I have ever seen. The person (a man, no doubt) who created this film was obviously just living out some twisted sexual fantasy about a lovely and sweet fairytale character. This film fits the porn genre and should have been made that way to begin with because that was its intention.

An absolute feast for 80s children!
16 November 2016
This show is extremely entertaining. Full of 80s pop culture references, fashion, trends, and music, this show is just nuttin' but 80s bliss which anyone who remembers that decade will love. Lots of scenes and story lines revolving around some famous thing from the 80s or recreating an iconic 80s moment or movie. On top of that, the show is hilarious and Wendi McLendon- Covey shines as the overbearing mother. She's truly the funniest thing about the show. I laugh out loud with every episode and feel so freakin nostalgic I want to die!!! Lots of great jabs alluding to the "future" which of course is now, lol. Kind of reminds me of The Wonder Years and The Wedding Singer. It's just so totally awesome! You need to see this show!

Mildly entertaining but with chronological inaccuracies!
23 August 2015
Warning: Spoilers
**Spoilers** While this film did have some entertaining moments and some amusing dialog, I'd have to say that it fell flat in story, acting, and accuracy. Now, I know this film was adapted from an onstage production, but that doesn't get the film version off the hook; it still has to work somehow. This film didn't work for me. The story was interesting at first, but seemed to take off into random directions which often led nowhere. Valli's personal life with his family is focused on in the beginning, then disappears for most of the film, then returns later after viewers have forgotten and no longer care. On top of that, a story about Valli's daughter which comes up late in the film is so horribly chronologically inaccurate, it would be a shame not to point it out. Sorry, but Valli's song Can't Take My Eyes Off of You was not written and released just after Valli's adult daughter died (in 1980); it was released in 1967 when she would have been about 10 years old. Also, the song My Eyes Adored You, which Valli's character is shown singing to his young daughter in the film during a time which would have been around the middle 60s, wasn't actually released until 1974. I suppose these inaccuracies made the film flow better, but they irritated me. As for the make-up and the set, well they all looked way too glamorous and cheesy to capture a 1950s-60s era New Jersey. The interior shots were too nice, the clothes were too neat, the actors/actresses were too thin and had too nice of skin and teeth for that era. Lastly, I really hate to complain about the music in this film because I believe they used these same actors' voices in the musical, but the singing and the music was just not right for me. I grew up listening to The Four Seasons and to me, Valli's real voice was simply too unique and powerful not to have in this film. Overall, I didn't care much for this film, other than the fact that is was about The Four Seasons.

Hindsight (2015)

Really liking this show
12 February 2015
Definitely a fun show for those of us who were teens or young adults during the 90s. The 90s flashback music, clothing, pop culture references, and even the attitudes of that era make this show rich with nostalgia and lots of fun. Since this show is about going back in time, there is of course lots of humor surrounding all that has changed so much in the last 20 years, like cell phones and the internet. There is also some other great humor as well, especially with characters Lolly and Jamie. Despite the bad reviews, I actually think this show is cleverly written, entertaining and seems to get better with every episode. I don't love the choice of actress for the main character Becca (her face isn't very expressive) but I get why she was chosen: her looks and the fact that her age is hard to pinpoint which makes it easier for the audience to accept her as both a 40 year old and a woman in her early 20s. Overall, i hope Hindsight will run for a while. It's the first new show in a long time that I've actually been interested in. Not sure where the writers are going with the story or how they intend to wrap up what her time travel journey has done for her, but I'm really enjoying how Becca's choices keep changing things from her past, even in the smallest of ways. Very cool.

Quirky, Soulful, Visually Stunning Film
22 July 2014
Ben Stiller is excellent in this film. His facial expressions, voice, and even his stature make character Walter Mitty feel like a real person and one we can relate to; a man afraid of living and taking chances. This is one of those films where you love to see an actor like Stiller, rather than a Brad Pitt. This film is visually beautiful and strange at times. It's quirky with some very odd scenes and characters throughout. This one didn't feel like a big Hollywood production to me. No nudity, no cussing, no crudeness, and no drinking/drug use; just a solid film with good acting, beautiful scenery, and a great and meaningful ending. Loved it.

Cute. Not great.
22 July 2014
Warning: Spoilers
I really have no idea why everyone is so in love with the 'Let it Go' song in the movie. It's pretty generic; not moving at all. The movie was cute. I liked the fact that it was about the love of sisters rather than just another boy meets girl story. I thought some of the character Anna's vocabulary choices were pretty lame. At one point, during a musical number, she actually says something along the lines of, "I was, like...." I have to say, I'm sick of hearing everyone use the word "like" in every sentence, so hearing in this film was largely annoying. Also, I think more time should have been spent showing how the relationship between Elsa and Anna changed over time. By the time the sisters were grown women, I was confused over what had happened and how it had changed each of them.

Flip or Flop (2013–2022)

Mixed feelings....
9 July 2014
I enjoy watching this show but mainly because I live in Southern California where all these flips are being done so it appeals to me since it's close to home. I do agree with others that Christina's Valley Girl way of talking is incredibly annoying and I wish someone would encourage her to change it, if only for her daughter's sake. From what I can see on the show, she and Tarek are decent people, trying to earn a good living for their little girl and their relationship seems easy and comfortable. I'm glad that this couple get along rather than bicker and roll their eyes at each other on camera. They may seem fake to viewers but I think they're just being themselves and I like that they don't put on a big show. The formula is good in that respect. I don't like seeing them drive around in their status- symbol Escalade and I do get tired of how much make-up she wears. She's young and doesn't need it! Anyway, I think the renovations they make re very fun to watch but I doubt they're getting them done for the amounts they state, unless they receive deep discounts from the network or the sponsors. The most interesting thing about the show to me is seeing them fix up dilapidated houses in bad areas high in crime that sell for $400,000! That's the essence of SoCal! Most of the houses on this show are ridiculously overpriced and even renovated aren't worth half of what they sell for because the cities and neighborhoods are terrible places to live and usually only a few blocks away from gang lands.

Animated Version of Doc Hollywood
1 July 2014
The plot of this movie is a lot like Doc Hollywood starring Michael J. Fox. A "Big City" hotshot on his way to LA finds himself stuck in a small hick town and endures a miserable week of volunteer work all the while falling in love with the town's comfortable feeling and quirky but genuine inhabitants. How can anyone not love this film? From the hilarious and laid back Owen Wilson to the gritty and serious Paul Newman, this film is full of strong characters including the smaller roles (Michael Keaton!). It's funny, charming and heartfelt and full of great tunes as well. Just the opening sequence alone will have you tapping your feet to Sheryl Crow and the end may bring tears when you hear Brad Paisley. My husband and i are in our 30s and we adore this film. Always crack up when I hear the line "Im in Hillbilly Hell! My IQ is dropping by the second!"

Requires a Certain Quirky Sense of Humor to Enjoy!
3 January 2014
Hilarious cult comedy from the 80s. On the surface, it's strangely weird and even ridiculous, but those with a dark or quirky sense of humor or at least an understanding of that kind of comedy will love it. It's definitely not mainstream comedy and many of the laughs don't come easily for the average viewer, but if you have the right kind of personality for this brand of humor, you'll just love it and will be laughing all the way through this film. Cusack's dead- pan delivery of the line "I'm really sorry your mom blew up Ricky" has got to be one my favorite things uttered on screen. I read that Cusack hated this movie but I think he was perfect for the role and it's one of his best films ever. For those viewers who hated this film, to each his own, but for everyone else, don't let bad reviews prevent you from seeing this classic. You might end up loving it.

Pocoyo (2005– )
10/10
Quirky Fun For Children and Their Parents!
3 January 2014
Pocoyo is my 20-month old son's absolute favorite thing to watch. His Grandma kind of got him hooked on it while I was at work all day so I started watching it to see what he was experiencing. At first it kind of annoyed me with its very bold colors on a white background, but then I saw the Dance Off episode which is hilarious and gives nods to pop and rock music, and decided I loved it too. The British narrator is very good and the quirky personalities of each character keep us interested. Pato is a bit neurotic, Elly is a primadonna , the octopus Fred is a crack-up with his gibberish, there's a silly little caterpillar that makes funny faces, and Pocoyo himself behaves much like any toddler with ups and downs, a bit of mischief and an innocent soul. There's an episode called Angry Alien which frightens my son so I have to watch it when he goes to bed but it's hilarious with this little green alien who has this evil laugh and he tries to take over Pocoyo's world but he's really small so no one takes him seriously and he gets so mad! It's pretty funny. Now the husband and I watch the show and we love it as much as our son does.
