Eragon (2006)
woefully inadequate
so much was obviously derived from LOTR and star wars that the books and film fall flat on their faces.
if he had maintained a low percentage of ideas borrowed from other works, it might have actually been decent. however, much of his effort borrows too heavily from others, and this in turn tarnishes the value of paulini's writings.
Its okay to enjoy his books, but never for a moment should one ever denigrate lord of the rings in favor of eragon (as some ill-cultured people have done), that's just like biting the hand that feeds you. so much was obviously derived from LOTR and star wars that the books and film fall flat on their faces.

Stinger (2005)
Unbelievably Dreadful!
Even by the standards of most B-movies, this movie is by far the worst I've ever seen. The graphics are so poor that a man in a monster suit looks more realistic. the ocean water effects are especially laughable, including the one scene where they board the mini-sub, and the "water" looks like its frozen in place. The problems with this film are so numerous that I'll just stop here with the details. needless to say, I kid you not when I say that even Uwe Toilet Boll himself could do a better job. Avoid this movie at all cost, there are other B grade movies out there that, despite being horrible, are at least a good way of passing the time by.
Age of Empires III (2005)
Much better than Empire Earth 2
Having played the utterly horrible empire earth 2, I braced myself for what could have been a letdown in regards to age of empires 3. Boy was I wrong, this game reeks of classic. the physics engine gives the game a lot of life, and the home city system increases its longevity. although there are only 8 civilizations, they make up for this by designing lots of unique features and units for each race. the graphics were OK, but what really stood out was the smoothness of the graphics and the wonderful music. the only weakness was that while the campaign starts out interestingly with Morgan black's act, it gradually gets dull when it finally reaches Amelia black's part of the story. I also want to give 2 thumbs up for the intro, since its the most impressive one I have seen since Dawn of War. all in all I give this game a 9/10 and hope they make an expansion pack soon, hopefully with new civilizations, such as the U.S. and Industrial Japan
Empire Earth II (2005)
What a letdown
I picked up a copy of this game, thinking that since the first one was fantastic, maybe they improved on it. boy was I wrong; for one thing, they don't allow custom civilizations anymore. I thought that perhaps once I play it a few times, the redeeming qualities would show, but it just went downhill from there. some of the units look ridiculous, such as the over-sized leaders. the economics system seems dumbed down, the epoch names seem senseless and uninspiring, and some of the unique units appear during a period in which there should be nothing of their kind left. I've since gone back to playing the original, and I'd advise others to keep away from this latest piece of trash.
