The Alfred Hitchcock Hour: The Lonely Hours (1963)
Nancy Kelly
This is not really a review but a reply to the person who said Nancy K elly must be "50 if she were a day" . She was only 41 when this episode aired . She would most definitely have been young enough to have a baby.
Alfred Hitchcock Presents: Shopping for Death (1956)
Dougdoepke Is Incorrect
Dougdoepke's review is fine but he is incorrect on one fact. He mentions "the recent Oscar winning actress Jo Van Fleet ". This episode was originally shown on January 29th, 1956; The academy Awards were not held until March 21st. She had not won the Oscar at the time of the original broadcast.
The Doris Day Show: The Feminist (1970)
Awful
What an awful episode. I find it funny Day would be so anti feminist when she herself was a victim of men (her husband who bankrupted her ). Plus , the idea that all feminist were masculine was passe even in 1972. Also, Miss (not Ms. ) Henderson, the "feminist " refers to her own cohorts as "girls ". Truly an episode Rush Limbaugh would endorse ! Doris even ends the episode by saying "being a second class citizen dies have its advantages ". I saw this in a marathon of The Doris Day Show; after I saw this episode, I turned the channel.I know Day was extremely conservative in her personal life so perhaps this is was how she really felt but I found it insulting.
One Day at a Time (1975)
Ann Romano
This series was okay but I find it hard to watch for one reason: Bonnie Franklin. She is utterly charmless. In episode after episode, men all her irresistible. She is the opposite of attractive; she is repellent. I am not only referring to he negligible looks but her personality and her delivery.Every time she would utter her signature line "Oh my Gawd " stretching out "g-a -w-d ", i wanted to scream. And the ridiculous jokes about her having dyed her hair. She was obviously a redhead with her skin pigmentation. Why bother ?; it is not like Lucille Ball who was not a natural redhead. She is just so obnoxious.During the course of the original run she was reported to have held out for extra money because she was the "star "; this is one case where not only could she have been replaced by another actress, I wish she had been.
Scenes from a Mall (1991)
Woody's Age
Everyone's making a big deal about Woody's ponytail (which does look ridiculous); but the most unbelievable aspect of his character is his age. At one point in the film, he says he would not get married at 24 and the couple are celebrating their 16th anniversary. If my math is correct, that would make him 40 and he was 54 when the film was released - and looks older than that. Plus, since Midler is 9 years younger; that would mean she was 15 when they married. Just saying... Also, this mall is supposed to be in Beverly Hills (like the Beverly Center) but it offers ballroom dancing and restaurants specializing in caviar. All of this, plus the artificial dialogue, bugs me and makes the movie very unrealistic.
The Producers (2005)
What happened?
First late me state I love musicals and have an affinity for Mel Brooks comedies as well;I cannot remember being more disappointed with either genre. Was this a faithful adaptation of the stage production and, if it is, how did it win so many Tony awards (holds the record for wins)? I knew Nathan Lane and Will Ferrell would ham it up, but it was Matthew Broderick"s "acting" that stunned me; he was horrible. Every time he said "Broadway" I cringed. Uma Thurman was by far the best performer in the movie and Gary Beach and Roger Bart were okay. The songs were unmemorable.Has Susan Stroman directed any other movies after this or did she flee to the stage?Do yourself a favor and stick to the original. What a mess.
