Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency (2016)
Disappointing
How can you take piece of work from a master like DNA and make it so banal. I have read everything that DNA published including The Last Chance to See, The Deeper Meaning of Lif and all novels between. This tv adaptation hasn't lived up to any previous works. Admittedly I have had a rather stilted viewing, only lasting a few minutes at a time, I wasn't willing to give in, I kept giving it another go thinking that it would find its feet and catch hold of me eventually. Sadly this hasn't happened. I'm obviously missing what others see in the production. I love quirky, offbeat and unusual. Many rave, bravo to them., Think I'll pass for now and maybe try again later.
Parkinson in Australia: Episode #2.13 (1980)
If you get the chance watch, it's worth it
1st guest was John Farnham & 3rd guest was Dennis Lillie were both interesting and entertaining, but I was massively impressed with the 2nd guest Bishop Howell Witt. (Seems like a father Bob figure). Absolute crack up.
Howell Arthur John Witt (12 July 1920 - 8 July 1998) was an Australian bishop for over 25 years.
The 15:17 to Paris (2018)
Accidentally watched and
Ended up really enjoying the movie. It looked like it might be a true story. Add that Client Eastwood the director, did not cast actors as the three leads, he cast the actual guys who lived the event. Well worth a look.
Single All the Way (2021)
So very cute
What a gem of a movie. All the supporting actors were absolutely fabulous. The story was very hallmarkish in a great way. Add to this the fact that, not being hetero was not a drama ridden angst issue to be dealt with, oh what a relief. The family wanted love and happiness and the story shared that in bucket loads.
Nothing Like a Dame (2018)
Delightful surprise
I just happened upon this. How wonderful and interesting, to glimpse into the worlds of such great women. The combination of youthful footage and their older selves chatting. Thank you ladies.
Fantasy Island: Hungry Christine/Mel Loves Ruby (2021)
Ep 1 True Love
The story of Ruby and Mel made me cry. So sad, so beautiful and rich too. Well told.
Letting go of who you love is one of the hardest things to do, even when you know it is the only option.
The Dead Pool (1988)
Johnny Squares
Worth seeing just for the music video, Carey is classic!
Becoming Bond (2017)
An absolute Aussie
Charisma just flows from his interview answers, add to that the fun scenes acted out and a truely interesting story, this is well worth watching.
Self confident, brazen, give anything a go, take opportunities and then stay true to self and walked your own path.
The epitome of the iconic Aussie man of the era.
Extraction (2020)
Action filled
Fast paced and action filled. I throughly enjoyed suspending some belief. One man couldn't take all that punishment, but then how many action movies are essentially a one man show? To watch Chris Hemsworth show his physical dexterity was a pleasure. The very Australian one liners scattered throughout out the movie broke the tense action nicely.
Me and Earl and the Dying Girl (2015)
2:22am - - - not the time
To finish watching a movie you had no intention of seeing, feeling all alone, tears rolling... worth it thou
The Danish Girl (2015)
Book & Movie
Both book and movie tore at my heart. Bravery and love.
Snowpiercer (2013)
Concept caught my imagination
When isn't a dystopian story worth investigating. A different spin on end of the old society and new society for the few survivors.
Blue Velvet (1986)
Not a fan but well done.
The acting and the cinematography are suburb, however the film is banal and tries too hard
Near Dark (1987)
Held my curiosity to watch it through
Not to everyone's tastes, being a fan of Bill Paxton, vampire stories and 80s movies this was a pleasant stumble upon on a Sat night with nothing much else happening.
Unprotected Sets: Minneapolis: Shane Mauss (2018)
Funny as it's so true
Self exposing, self deprecative humour, referencing the nitty gritty ness of life
Vampire's Kiss (1988)
Cage
Jennifer Beals so sexy. The two star rating I gave were for her, she deserved more but there was so much lacking due to Nicolas Cage. I found nothing comedic, rather it was pathetic. This is the sort of odd movie that I would normally delight in, if only a different actor had been cast.
