Haider (2014)
Fantastic Masterpiece but something we Indians shouldn't really promote!
As long as the audience is not expected to have any kind of sympathy towards the characters - Haider, Roohdar and the Doctor(Haider's father) - and are not expected to kinda curse or hate the Indian militants, Tabu's character and Khurram(KK Menon), in the movie, THEN it is completely an appreciable movie. In a nutshell, Vishal Bharadwaj has demonstrated the other side of the coin. I didn't get disturbed at all by the sorrowful scenes like when the doctor's house is blasted off, or when Haider's father is tortured and killed by militants, or when Haider is beaten up badly.. Such scenes rather made me feel happy. That is because the character 'Haider' himself is supporting the cruel. If Haider was an Indian and he knew that his father was a terrorist, then why would he opt for Sarhad Paar and take his father's so called 'Intequam' to kill his uncle? Also another twist which I found irrelevant is why would Tabu approach Irrfan Khan at the end? So, personally, I loved the script and believe that it definitely deserved all the awards but it could've been taken in a different reference.
Badlapur (2015)
RIP Hindi Cinema! May you rust into pieces
It has now become a stereotype to have your wife/girlfriend killed in the beginning of the movie and then take its revenge. Right from Ghajini, Ek villain and now this Badlapur. Badlapur is the same old story with a different sequence, which the director thought would make it look very different. Sorry Raghavan ji, but it wasn't. The subtitle of the movie says 'Don't miss the beginning'. Exactly. Because after watching the beginning, the movie becomes so predictable that you can actually take out your laptop in the theater and continue with your work which you dropped to watch this very mainstream film. Is this what we pay 200 bucks for, Mr. Producer? Well, now speaking of the star cast, Yami Gautam has thoroughly saved the film. Like, literally. If it wasn't Yami in the movie, it would be a major disaster. She probably had the smallest part which she did the best. That is what you call an 'Actor'. No matter how much of a negligible role you get, an actor does it best. Varun, well, tried too hard to pull off the frustrated revengeful husband but failed. Huma's performance wasn't very noticeable but also not that bad. Naawazuddin, as usual, performed best. He is the perfect face to play a villain, with due respect to his previous performance which were way more catching.
Post Script :- Save your money and wait for a better film to release.
Kill Dil (2014)
Well done Yash raj! Thanks for not disappointing.
Okay, let me clear the misconception first that it is Gunday or Tashan remake. No it's not. It's a completely fresh story with amazing directions. The movie has got a beautiful touch of YRF and Shaad's directions have created a new magic throughout the film. It will remind you of the old and iconic movies like Bunty aur Babli, Saathiya. The movie doesn't flow in a very typical speed. The movie gets unpredictable in the second half. The movie has quite a good number of interesting twists to offer you. Songs, I think were not at all up to the expectations. Don't know where SEL went wrong. The songs should've been much better since the story is very strong and interesting. Speaking of the cast, Govinda has made a superb comeback. It's amazing to see the actor hasn't lost a single acting chop after so many years. Ranveer Singh and Ali Zafar's performances were not as good. They unperformed. Dull acting. But Parineeti Chopra gave a powerpack performance. Like, seriously! As if parineeti was born to play the character 'Disha' in the film. Truly she has walked away. Not that this is the first time she has done such a fantastic job. But now, I think, she should break the stereotype and move on to try out different roles. I recommend to experiment urban, corporate, student role. Enough with the free spirit, Parineeti. Anyway, it's a fantastic film to watch this weekend. I personally loved the story!
Happy New Year (2014)
Another Chennai Express and SRK gotta break the stereotype and grow mature
I won't talk about the story, directions etc but will talk about the cast and their potential and why you should NOT watch the movie. Farah's work I have never appreciated except for Main Hoon Na. She is a good director but needs much more improvement. The movie is rather made to entertain the cheap audience, who don't need a very good joke to laugh at. And Shahrukh should seriously stop romancing actresses who are half his age. C'mon, man! He really needs to know the character inside him. He should start doing some grown ups or supporting mature roles. He is no more a superstar material. Deepika is like OKish in the film. She cannot match the potential of her contemporaries like Katrina or PeeCee, but nice try. Sonu, macho, hunky, did his best and really was good in the film. I didn't understand Vivaan's character so I am not gonna pass any judgement about him. Best performers of the film were Abhishek and Boman, really. They were so effortless and natural that, I guess, the movie worked out only because of these two. So let me put it like this, watch Happy New Year at your own risk. There's nothing new or exciting in the film. But while booking the tickets, just remember one thing that you're simply adding to SRK's bank balance and nothing else. You won't get entertained for sure.
Khoobsurat (2014)
Why?! Why to release such disasters?!
Sorry Sonam, but this was just too mainstream. I mean, you named it Khoobsurat. Why? The movie was directed very very very lightly. There seemed no passion in the actors. And also one thing, when you name a movie after an old and phenomenal one (i.e Hrishikesh Mukherjee's 'Khoobsurat' starring Rekha ji), it spontaneously becomes your responsibility to make it that well. But this was nowhere near the old one. i am so sorry, I am totally disturbed after watching this movie on this pleasant Friday morning. I was expecting really entertaining and some epicness but this was just too mainstream. Music is the only aspect left that can make the movie work out, but in this movie, even that aspect was not up to the mark.
Daawat-e-Ishq (2014)
Deliciously amazing!
Whenever we see a romcom, we expect something new but come out saying that it was the very mainstream one. But not with this one. It's an epic Romcom that also delivers a beautiful message which only few people will be able to receive. Its amazing to watch how two people get bonded over food. The script is phenomenal, dialogues are superb, directions are fab! Truly hats off! I mean, if you're looking forward for an amazing weekend, you should definitely book the tickets. Be it with your, lovers, friends, family whoever. You will thoroughly enjoy the 2.5 hours of watching the movie. I recommend to watch it in a good theater. Speaking of the cast, Parineeti Chopra, undoubtedly has done a FANTASTIC job, all over again in this one. Her very typical and desi Hyderabadi accent will WOW you! ARK was also good. Please go and watch the film. Its good to watch such talented actors on the big screen.
Mary Kom (2014)
Well done, PeeCee !
Priyanka, being the most versatile actress in the industry, has again made a brilliant performance in another womencentric movie. Biopics in India have always been very underrated. So will be this one. The best thing I loved about the movie is its flow. No melodrama and no typical 1970s thing. It's definitely a one time watch. But a must. The movie could've been a bit better. As most of the people are unaware of Mary's achievements, the director should have more elaborated a few scenes in the movie, is what I think. Otherwise, the movie is fab! You'll love Priyanka's performance so much that you'll first vote for PC for the best actress at the Filmfare website. Now, I am sure this movie won't do very well at the biopics. Because we are living in a country where people aren't much interested in watching such intense and beautiful biopics. But, that's not all. That is why Indian cinema is divided into two parts : Commercial and Art. So there's no need to feel bad if the movie doesn't perform well at the box office. It has def touched many hearts.
Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania (2014)
Goodbye Dharma productions.
Some movies are made with passion while some movies are made to make money out of it. Humpty falls in the second category. Since, Alia and Varun are the current youth icons, the young generation is crazy for them and they do watch their films in theaters just because they both are good looking, Karan Johor thought that why not rope in these two actors and make a very mainstream but glamorous movie and make money?! Both Alia and Varun are overrated and so is their movie. And the irony is that, while promoting this movie, they said that Humpty is gonna be the new DDLJ and KKHH which I don't agree. DDLJ and KKHH were iconic movies. Humpty is just another SOTY. I am sure, this movie will make money. People will love this film BUT, it will only be the dumb ones to love this film. Intelligent people won't have this film in their list of favorite movies. I would recommend you to not watch the movie. Definitely a waste of time but also you will come out of the theaters irritated and flooded with the thoughts that if Alia and Varun can be superstars then why cant I be one?!
Ek Villain (2014)
..And Riteish walked away again! (But movie boring)
Riteish, definitely, has spark. He is young, talented, dashing yet veteran. I have always loved his performance right from Bluffmaster. But the movie, Ek villain, om my god, was such a pain in ***. Does Mohit Suri know anything about directing movies. Just by having godfathers like Mahesh Bhatt and Ekta Kapoor he has walked in the industry. I really pity on Riteish for such movies coming in his way. Speaking of the rest of the cast. Siddharth, well, has done a really good performance in Hasee Toh Phasee, but here, his spark was not at all catching me. And Shraddha kapoor,oh my god! Why is she an actress? No intensity, no dialogue delivery. She couldv'e rather become a model or some air hostess. She doesn't deserve this stardom at all.
Heropanti (2014)
Like father, not like son (In short, bad movie)
Looks like the director of this movie has learnt the wrong meaning of the term 'HERO'. In which way does the slim, skinny, fair and lovely Tiger Shroff looks like a hero? He cannot even live up to his name - Tiger. Hero is supposed to have massive dialogue delivery which can attract the audience. Tiger's dialogue delivery was so unmanly. Not at all impressive. Speaking of the movie, the script and the directions, its all the old wine in a new bottle. Not every superstar son can survive in this industry. And this metrosexuality has taken turn for a worst, is what I have observed after watching tiger shroff. I think Sajid Nadiadwala should do a crash course in 'How to recognize the real actor'.
The Xpose (2014)
Not even worth giving a review on
I know the movie doesn't deserve one star out of 10. But that is the least I can give. 'Awful', the only word that can describe this movie. I don't know what glamour was the director trying to pull off. The movie was just an instrument for Himesh Reshamiyya to propound his songs. Yeah, and the songs too! I don't know why people loved the songs. They were just remakes of the previous super hit songs. I should have watched the election results today which were undoubtedly much more interesting than this crap movie. But my friends dragged me to watch it. And now they are regretting too. Speaking of acting, actor is good at his place and singer is best at his place. Himesh should never think of becoming an actor. He is not at all a star material.
Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (2006)
Intelligent movie with a sensitive topic.
It was certainly a very risky experiment completely apart from the mainstream. Extra Marital affair has always been very overrated in our country. Maybe that is why, people in our country not only did not like the movie but also criticized it very badly. But I am sure, while making the movie, Johor might not have had any expectations of good reviews from Indian public and critics. Nevertheless, the movie did a fantastic performance in the overseas market. It was also received positively there. Even today, after 8 years of its release, it is still the 7th Highest grossing movie in the overseas market. I personally loved the movie very much. Though it was too high on drama. I have always admired KJO's movies. But KANK is very much close to my heart. I know this is too late to write this review. But I watched the movie yesterday on TV. Not that this was the first time I watched it. My dad had shown me the movie on the first day first show of its release in 2006. But as I was too small then, I couldn't understand the movie. But now, when I am 18, I understood how intelligent the movie is. Hats off to Karan!
2 States (2014)
Vicky Donor remake.
Okay, first thing, Alia Bhatt is a bad actress. Hence proved. Secondly, the movie runs in very a typical speed. Everyone has done a lot of overact. And first time has this happened that a novel was better than the movie. I am sure it will do well at the box office as there are 1000s of boys who find Alia very attractive. But the movie will succeed because of its glamor, not because of its script or directions. The movie could have been better. And, for God's sake, please stop spreading the rumors that Alia Bhatt is a wonderful actress. She overacts. Considering her contemporaries, she is merely a null. No offense! But I don't think if you miss this movie this weekend, you would be at a huge loss. You can rather watch a movie like Bhootnath.
Main Tera Hero (2014)
Bad entertainer
Its very sad to know that Director David Dhawan failed to make a hilarious RomCom when it was his son's turn. The only thing I loved about the movie was Ileana D'Cruz's expressions. She is definitely a wonderful actress but is a bit underrated and overshadowed because of her mind blowing contemporary actresses like Parineeti Chopra, Sonakshi Sinha who have occupied a huge space in the industry. But anyway, coming to movie, speaking of the entertainment factor, I think the movie had that very typical thing which most of the boys and girls of this generation do not enjoy watching. And now, coming to the main Hero of the movie, Varun Dhawan, who is somewhat trying to pull off the 'Salman' thing might also affect his stardom adversely. Because salman has a very huge fan following and his fans wouldn't love it if any other actor is trying to replace. Maybe my logic sounds a bit weird, but it is very relevant in some cases.
Shaadi Ke Side Effects (2014)
Two great actors make great film.
Beautiful movie! A bit different Rom-com, but still well depicted. It was really good to see the two talented actors of B-town sharing screen. Besides, people really appreciate Farhan and Vidya and that is what will attract people towards the movie. The might not have a rocking opening because the songs are something which didn't attract the people to some extend. According to the predictions, the flow and speed of the box office collection of 'Shaadi key side effects' will be same as that of 'Hasee to Phasee'. The movie is worth watching. Since 'Shaadi key side effects' has been quite awaited film, no doubt it will dilute the box office collections of 'Highway' which might be very threatening for Highway as it has earned only 20 crores in its first week which exactly half of its budget. The competition between 'Higway' and 'Shaadi Key side effects' will undoubtedly be very biased.
Highway (2014)
Remake of 'Dil hai ki manta nahi'
8/10 is just too much for Highway. Its deserves a half star for the story and plot and another half star for Randeep Hooda. I found this movie very irrelevant and unrealistic. And misguiding as well. And the worst thing in the film is undoubtedly Alia Bhatt. She just cannot act. I agree, she is very beautiful and smart but that is not enough to become an actor. I would say don't watch this movie, as its a waste of time, money and energy you need to resist all the irritating drama. Nevertheless, Imtiaz Alia failed this time. I have always loved Imtiaz's films but this one was not up to the expectations at all. And that is why the reason the movie couldn't do well at the Box Office. Sorry to say, but this movie is a big disaster.
