Ant-Man (2015)
Wasn't Marvel's Best
Marvel movies have become the kings at the box office these days. It seems like Marvel Studios can't fail, at least in the last few years. Ant Man might not be making the amount of money that Marvel was hoping for, but it's gotten a great response critically. i just didn't find it that fun. It was stupid and slow. i didn't feel that it had the flow that regular Marvel movies have. I'll confess that there were some funny lines in the movie, but it felt like they had to add a lot of it in there to make up for the stupidity of the movie. I know what your thinking, "None of the marvel superheroes make sense. There is a monster called the Hulk on a team of Avengers." But, at least the Hulk has a good back story and is played by a good actor. He is also a bad ass with all of his strength. Ant Man seemed stupid with all of the controlling ants and stuff. The shrinking was cool and powerful, but the ants were stupid and seemed to crawl out of nowhere when Scott needed them. In the comics, Ant Man didn't rely so heavily on the ant and more on his own powers. I have to say that Yellow Jacket was really cool, especially his suit. The only complaint that I have is that it looks like he could take down Ant Man easily, but he didn't because it didn't fit the plot. He is by far the stronger person. The last thing that I want to say is that the movie started to become to much like Green Lantern when the tank came out of the building.
In conclusion, the movie could've been better but was still a lot of fun.
Jurassic World (2015)
What I Expected
"Jurassic World" was a very good movie. I liked the new and improved park (Now that it's finally open). The action scenes were really cool. When the hybrid dinosaur was fighting the T-Rex, I couldn't take my eyes off of the screen. It's amazing how far that technology has come since the first installment in the franchise. One of the things I didn't like was how unrealistic it was. I know you guys are probably wondering, "It's a movie about dinosaurs on an island with a theme park on it." I understand that it's a far fetched plot, but what I liked about the first, second, and third "Jurassic Park." At least in those movies the dinosaurs were just chasing the humans because they wanted a nice snack. In this new movie, velociraptors are jumping onto T-Rexs to take down a hybrid dinosaur. That kind of thing wouldn't happen if dinosaurs were still living. Also, what are the odds that the water dinosaur thing would be waiting at the edge of the pool at just the right moment to kill the GMO. Did any of you guys think it was weird that Owen could control the raptors. In all of the other films, they made the raptors out to be vicious beasts, but now, they are house pets that can be told commands. This could've been a better movie if the plot was a little better. I was disappointed by the character build up. They just put 2 kids on a plane and suddenly they were the main characters, and all they tell us about Owen is that he was an ex-marine that happened to date the aunt of the two kids that happen to be in trouble. What are the odds? I loved the design of the park itself. It looks like a dinosaur Disney world in a way, just on an island. I wish so bad that this park was real. Finally, I liked the throw backs to the old movies. First of all, there was the DNA cartoon character. They also showed the dinosaur in the first movie that looked like he had a mane. The old jeep was really cool as well. That was a major throwback. I gave this movie a 6 because I liked the action, but I thought that the character build up was bad and it didn't have a good storyline. I still hope they make a 5th one.
Pitch Perfect 2 (2015)
Better than the first
I have always loved the first movie, and when I saw that another one was coming, I was really excited. I saw the trailer and thought right then and there that this one will be much better than the first. I rarely say that sequels outmatch the original, but in this case, Pitch Perfect 2 takes the cake. It was very similar to the first movie. There were some new things don't get me wrong, but overall, the storyline was basically the same as the first one, just in a different place. It had the same big competition vibe like the original, but this time, they were competing on a global scale. Plus, the same arrangement with the characters was happening too. There was the new girl that doesn't fit in in the beginning but ends up being the hero/ co-hero at the end of the movie. Emily was a similar character to Becca in the first movie. I'm not saying that that's a bad thing. I just wished that they had done it a little differently. The humor was excellent. Fat Amy was by far the best character in the whole movie. She is really funny in some scenes, and I love the concept of all the boys loving her. It makes her feel special, which is funny in itself. Pitch Perfect 2 was a lot more focused on the humor, as opposed to focused on the teamwork and success of the Bellas. I laughed a lot more during this movie then the last movie. They were both really funny. Overall, this movie was really good. and I hope that they make a third installment.
Annie (2014)
Doesn't Deserve Bad Reviews
I've seen a lot of reviews for this movie that were negative. They all say that they hated the acting and the changing of race. I think it's all crap. This movie wasn't bad. I liked the singing from Quevenzhane Wallis and Jamie Foxx. I did think that Rose Byrne and Cameron Diaz's singing seemed really fake. It shows that they can't sing and needed a lot of lip sync for their voices to sound good. Speaking of Rose Byrne, I thought she was going to have a lot of trouble with this role. I didn't think she was a type of person to do a musical and dance and sing. I knew that her acting was going to be great, and it was. I could really feel the connection between her and Annie. There was a lot of emotional parts of the movie. Annie was not only really connected to Grace but also to Daddy Warbucks, played by Jamie Foxx. Quvenzhanne Wallis wasn't bad in the movie. I didn't think it was as good as her previous movie, Beasts of the Southern wild. She was still good though. You see all these child actors that just read their lines off. Quevenzhanne did make me feel the anger and sadness of being an orphan and being betrayed. The classic songs were great and I really liked the choreography. Overall I gave the movie a 7.
The Fault in Our Stars (2014)
Pretty Good
First of all, I don't think this movie deserves the reviews that it has been getting. I know this novel isn't the most dramatic thing in the world, but I still think that a few of the scenes in the movie could've been a little better. For example, the Peter Van Houten scene was too crammed. In my head, I envisioned the room being big, with a gray sofa on which Peter Van Houten was drinking and talking to Hazel and Augustus. In the movie, there's this guy in a wooden chair talking to Hazel and Augustus in this room that is so small. Hazel and Gus are sitting on the couch that I envisioned Peter would have been sitting on. Anyway, enough about that. I did like the acting. I thought that Shailene Woodley did an incredible a fat job of portraying Hazel Grace Lancaster. She did a great job in the scenes where she had to cry or be very happy. I think those emotional scenes, she did very well on. On the other hand, I think that Ansel Elgort could've done a better job in those emotional scenes. I don't know if that is his way of portraying Gus' sense of humor, or if that is just fine that they cast the wrong guy to play Augustus Waters. For example, in the scene where Gus calls Hazel asking for help when he's at the gas station, he kind of just threw up. I think they could've done a better job of having him be throwing his body around in pain or crying. That's just what I think. You guys might disagree with me and think that Ansel did a good job, but I just think they could've found a better Augustus Waters. Let's go back on the topic of Peter. I imagine Peter as being a fat, obnoxious drunk. With their choice of Willem Dafoe as playing Peter Van Houten, I think it ruins the point of the character. Willem is kind of a skinny guy who has a beard and kind of looks obnoxious, but I think they should've gone with someone who had a little more weight on them. Plus, Willem didn't give me the vibe that Peter Van Houten gave me when I was reading the book. It must sound like I'm a pretty negative guy, but here are some good things about the movie. I like how Hazel is narrating throughout the story. I liked all of Gus' jokes and how he would annoy Hazel. I also like that they spent a great deal of time in Amsterdam. The movie really spent a lot of time there, which I thought was great and further developed Hazel and Gus' relationship. I gave this movie a 9 out of 10 because it's just such a good story. I hope you guys found this review useful, and be sure to think about all the suggestions that I made to the movie.
Edge of Tomorrow (2014)
Great Movie
I just saw this movie, and I was surprised in a good way. I was expecting this to be another okay alien movie, but as I was watching, I realized that this movie was more about the plot and the story, rather than just action and scary scenes. I liked the humor in the movie. One of my favorite scenes, was when Cage was doing the push ups and then he rolled under the car and got smashed. I found that scene very funny. The battle scenes in this movie were absolutely spectacular. I enjoyed watching all of the humans fight the really cool looking aliens in the really cool suits. Rita was pretty cool with her sword. She took down those aliens like it was the easiest thing in the world. Cage was pretty funny when he couldn't figure out how to take of the safety. There are only two things that I didn't like about Edge of Tomorrow was how many times that Cage starts the day over in this film. I think they went a little overboard on that one. The movie was the same thing until he gets to the farmhouse. I thought that they could have done a little more with the ending. I won't spoil it. I let you guys think about yourselves. There was something else that the director could have done. Thanks for reading, and think about what you thought should have been the ending.
