A Christmas Carol (2019)
Dark and sadly disappointing.
Why make a version of A Christmas Carol that's not family friendly? This movie is only loosely based on the Dickens book and so is very different from previous adaptations. It is dark and ugly and lacking in any beauty or joy. It is replete with f-bombs and depicts sexual exploitation with some nudity. Why some people liked this movie is beyond me. Skip this and watch the excellent GC Scott version instead.
The Conners (2018)
Hilarious!
I used to watch Rosanne from time to time. The show centered around Rosanne, and all the other actors were there for her to play off of. It was pleasantly entertaining. If I turned on my tv and Rosanne was on, I would probably watch it, but it was never the show that I would seek out. The Connors is more of an ensemble show, and is seriously hilarious. I've had many belly laughs watching the Connors, which never happened with Rosanne, and I always can't wait to see the next episode. Hope this show hangs on because I really love it.
If You Believe (1999)
Woman meets her inner child.
This is such a beautiful, funny, heartwarming movie. Susan Stone (Ally Walker) is a 37-year-old woman who has been beaten down so much by life that she has lost her joy. She no longer has the ability to connect with people on an emotional level and is just going through the motions of living. As such, her life is on the verge of total collapse. Then comes 7-year-old Suzie Stone (Hayden Panettiere), who is Susan's inner child. No one can see or hear her except Susan. Suzie has arrived in the nick of time to tear down the walls that Susan has built up around herself, and help Susan to find her joy. Both Ally and Hayden give amazing performances that will melt your heart, and Hayden, thankfully, manages to avoid the pitfalls that often make child actors so annoying. I just discovered this movie on Amazon prime a few days ago and have already watched it about 5 times--and I still haven't had enough of it.
