The Tomorrow War (2021)
This Movie Doesn't Have Plot Holes...
These plot holes are connected by a paper-thin narrative. Seriously - you MIGHT have enough coherent material here for a mediocre first-person shooter. Every plot development raises multiple questions. How did they...? Why did they....? Why didn't they...? The portrayal of military training, strategy, tactics, and weapons was written by by an individual whose only service was Call of Duty. The political and non-military considerations were written by an individual who slept through History and Government classes. Conversely, the action sequences wee reasonably well done and the CGI was decent. Chris Pratt deserved to cash in his MCU cred, and I hope he did so.
The most positive thing I can say is that this would be a good stoned flick.
Blue Beetle (2023)
Don't understand the hate
Wow, the vitriol is turned up to eleven for this one... The most appropriate comment I've seen is that this is could have been released twenty years ago. IMO, if was a stand-alone, rather than a DCU "event", it might have been judged more positively. The humor approaches that of the Shazam films or an average Marvel effort. Making the protagonist an ethnic successor to a Silver Age hero is hardly groundbreaking or controversial these days, and I appreciated the nods to the character's history. Yes, the villain(s) was poorly characterized and unexceptional. It's a common problem with comic book movies, that BB does not overcome. Overall, I enjoyed this more than Flash, Harley Quinn, WW 1984, or Black Adam.
Secret Invasion (2023)
YAWN!!!
Wow. I thought the opening credits for Daredevil were boring and pretentious. These are worse. Halfway through episode 4, a story that should be thrilling is both boring and meddening. Fury told NO ONE about first contact with alien civilizations? An invasion by 1,000,000 shape shifting aliens, yet Fury enlists ZERO metahuman support and gives ZERO warnings? "We don' need no stinkin' superheroes!" Could we at least have Deadpool to break the 4th wall and remind us, "the studio has intention of paying for any stinkin' superheroes"? SKRULLS rediscover and successfully reutIlize Extremis and no one notices? This looks like a sci-fi series that Fox greenlit then canceled after two episodes.
Avengers: Infinity War (2018)
Tactics suck a$$
Overall, I love this movie. The fights are comic book accurate. I loved seeing Rhodey and the non-Accords team give Ross the finger. But the battle in Wakanda frustrates the h_ll out of me. Yes, Wakanda is a pre-eminent technological power.. But apparently no one there has studied military tactics and strategy. I understand that they might eschew "colonizer" ideas. But there's no preparation for a "conventional" assault? No air support? No artillery? No landmines? No mortars? No snipers?? No grenades? NOTHING that could bleed a larger enemy from a distance? Nothing that gives a smaller force any advantage? You have a force field that eliminates 20 - 50 percent of the enemy crossing it. Forcing a siege wears down the enemy and allows time to remove Vision's stone, evacuate civilians, and call for reinforcements. Did Cap, Bucky, Sam, Rhodey or ANYONE with military expertise have any input on this?
Doom Patrol (2019)
Not a superhero series!
Like most things, your reaction will depend upon your expectation. If you read the.comic back in the day, or expect a DCEU/MCU style super team, you will probably be disappointed. This is a somewhat more "realistic" exploration of how a group of people might react if they were involuntarily given "superpowers". There are many amusing references and callbacks to the various comic book iterations of the team. Unfortunately, IMO, there is too little action and too much "navel-gazing". I enjoyed seeing the comic book characters brought to life, but this much introspection might have been better executed as a novel.
Peacemaker (2022)
Early Rave
I'm actually just starting this, but the opening dance sequence is the funniest thing I've seen in months! Peacemaker, Doom Patrol, and Legends of Tomorrow put DC miles ahead in the comedic superhero genre. Your next subject (possibly even a candidate for PM season 2) - Ambush Bug!
The Flash: Armageddon, Part 4 (2021)
Wait a minute...
Isn't Damien Darhk a centuries old member of the League of Assassins? He should hand Frost and Cold Clown their @ss3s without breaking a sweat. Yet another Flashy example of lazy writers forgetting how powerful characters are when it advances their inadequate plot. SMDH...
Hawkeye (2021)
Not enough "Tag"
I just watched the movie "Tag" for the first time. Jerry from that film is written the way the MCU should have done Clint/Hawkeye. The internal monologue demonstrates how a "normal" human could hold his own with gods, monsters and aliens.
Fantasy Island (2021)
A decent beginning
This episode is a worthy successor to the original series. Amused that Ms. Roark chose her #2 in part because of her tattoo 😁. Episode 1 was entertaining. I hope that future episodes will entertain without getting political.
Battleship (2012)
Cheesy, but better than I expected
Based on reviews I'd read, I expected to hate this. While it's cheesy and unrealistic, I'd compare it favorably to Under Siege. An entertaining way to waste a couple of hours. Better this than Pearl Harbor, IMO.
Descendants 2 (2017)
Impressive!
I really enjoyed the plot twist of Ben choosing Uma. Their conversation on the ship hints that he has more in common with her, which isn't inaccurate. A few more minutes like that would have sold it even better. The "you've been bewitched" finale is very Disney, but Ben and Uma together would have setup a very entertaining Chapter 3.
The Replacements (2000)
A hilarious underdogs tale
The only time this Texan has EVER cheered for a Washington team. 😁
The Greatest Showman (2017)
Oh, Hell yes!!!
I went into this film on Christmas day, expecting a documentary or dry exposition. Never in my life have I been more pleased to be incorrect. A musical celebration of life, love, risk, and diversity. Watch it, rent it, buy it, love it! Best film of the year!
Shazam! (2019)
Everything you hoped for
Loved it! The new origin of the Shazam family was perfect. The only thingi missing was Mr. Tawky Tawny. This and Aquaman are proof that there's hope for the DCEU.
Lost in Space (2018)
Eyestrain
Is it REALLY necessary that half of most episodes are so poorly lit that I feel like I have glaucoma?
The Flash (2014)
Writing an unbeatable character
I suppose there's no reason the series should annoy me less than the comics always have. "The fastest man alive". That means no lesser being, short of another speedster can touch or damage him. Even a telepath or telekinetic is limited by how fast their brain works. It's established that the Flash can stretch a nuclear explosion into a multi-hour event. Then in subsequent episodes, he's rendered unconscious by something launched at a speed a talented human could aviod.
I understand the difficulty of providing a narrative challenge to a godlike character. Can you at least hire writers who read comics and have a little imagination?

Titans (2018)
Uhh, Ok?
I've been looking forward to this since it was announced. But after two seasons, my primary reaction is, "Damn! When did "dark and gritty" become whiny and depressing? I understand making things more grounded in "reality". But individually and collectively, the Titans spend 90% of the first two seasons clueless and/or getting their asses handed to them. Not a fan of linking Starfire and Raven's origins. This Dick Grayson belongs in an asylum, and his "redemption" isn't believable. These aren't heroes, they're manic-depressive MMA fighters who aren't very good at their "job". Season 2 ends with half the team wanted by law enforcement for murder, assault, and property damage. The one bright spot is Iain Glen's Bruce Wayne, a spot-on portrayal of the ultimate tough love father.
Iron Fist: Dragon Plays with Fire (2017)
Pathetic
Seriously? The finest martial artist from a city that exists to train martial artists gets his ass handed to him by a revenant that has "trained" against inanimate targets for a decade? Whom he doesn't actually defeat!? The Defenders should laugh this loser back to K'un L'un.
As with a couple of earlier Netflix Marvel series, the bad guys are more interesting than the hero. Madame Gao, like Cottonmouth and the Kingpin, is "a plain dealing villain" that is more confident, focused and aware than her nemesis. Even the psychopathic Wendell Rand is more compelling than "the Iron Fist".
I understand that the "Hero's Journey" starts slowly. But after 13 episodes, I'm not really anxious to see more of Danny Rand. He's annoying and not terribly bright.
MacGyver: Cigar Cutter (2017)
TV Martial Arts are the worst!
I like this show, even more so than the original, so I cut it a lot of slack. But in this case, when the bad guy mocks him, "A marker?" I concur. A marker would block a knife cut briefly, but all the baddie has to do is slice downward and he's opened Mac's abdomen. Mac would have been better off hanging onto the phone receiver. Even worse, he lets go of the marker with one hand to grab the spray! Quite the left arm you have there, Popeye! :-(
Iron Fist (2017)
Sssslllooooowwww!
OMFG! And I thought Luke Cage was glacially paced! I'm halfway through episode 6 and so far there's MAYBE 75 minutes of story stretched into almost 300 minutes run time! If you only have 6 episodes of material, there's no shame in producing a 6 episode series. Even the Inquisition didn't torture people this badly! Do something, for f_*ck's sake!
Intelligence: Athens (2014)
Living down to expectations
Crap. Only 9 episodes for this show to jump the shark. THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE THE MOST SECURE FACILITY IN THE COUNTRY!!!!!!!! Yet a group of random a$$holes, not even a foreign government, took it down physically and cybernetically, in 5 freaking minutes! Not only that, they managed to damage Gabriel's chip AND replace everyone's SECRET and theoretically ENCRYPTED personnel files. I suspected idiotic writers and producers would do something like this, but I thought they would save it for the season finale. This type of BS is why I couldn't watch 24. If your "next generation of Intelligence" can be turned that easily, the project would be shut down the next day. STUPID, STUPID, STUPID!
