Frozen (2013)
a bit disappointed
SPOILER
I must say that after all the noises made around FROZEN, my expectations were quite high. I took my kids to watch it at the movie on a Saturday morning, it was played 3D so we were all very excited. Unfortunately the movie (at least the story line) did not meet the level of quality I had expected. I thought the movie was going to be about the Snow Queen Elsa, I mean her as the main character. Instead most of the movie is seen through the eyes of her sister Anna, who is funny, charming and all but that's it, that was a let down to me. The beginning was promising but .. Plus to be honest, I did not find the songs particularly nice, (except the very first one sang by the men cutting the ice) Most songs were even annoying at a point, sorry for the fans. I was also disappointed that Elsa did not have a love interest, someone who would discover and appreciate her qualities, her gentleness, and re vive the flame in her lonely heart (this is so not Disney), I honestly thought that Kristof who fulfill this role due to his love for ice and snow etc, but no, he ends up with Anna who has already experienced a romance with prince Hanz ? Poor Elsa. Now the positive point is the animation, the 3-d effects, WAOW that is something. Well done to the crew who worked on that! OVERALL, i give it a 7 for the visual quality of the movie but to me it will not be as memorable as other princess Disney movies. My daughter too was disappointed she said.
17 Again (2009)
Sweet and charming comedy
The movie is very sweet and charming. The subject is deja vu as in Freaky Friday or Back to the future etc but new elements are added so it's not exactly the same. I laughed throughout the movie, watched it with whole family and we all loved it. The main young actor ZAc Efron played well surprinsingly, hopefully for him he'll be offered other interesting roles like this one, it is a pity that Matthew Perry had only a small role, the pretend dad was hilarious, the scene with Mark's kids and wife were predictable but very funny overall. The only thing is that I found the ending was too 'quick'. There was no much explanation, we did not have time to digest the whole right body recovery and it was over. Anyway we had a good time and I would recommend it to anyone.
Megamind (2010)
Simply genius
SPOILER Ahhh..Megamind! I love Megamind, it's probably my favorite animated movie. It has already been said so eloquently by others how marvelous this movie is so all I am going to say is Kudos to the writers! The script is genius, I love all the good/bad talking between Megamind and Minion, 'do i look bad?', 'you don't know what's good for bad' simply Genius, no other word! The music too was great, the songs chosen for each scene is top notch. But the storyline is really world class, throughout the movie, one learns to care for Megamind and get attached to him. He is so sweet in his attempt to be the baddie, that it puts a smile on one's face. For those who haven't watched it yet, i don't think there are many but just in case, go watch it, it's a superb movie full of sweetness, hilarity and great values.
Shichinin no samurai (1954)
Yep, I'm glad I watched it
After having read so many positive reviews on this film, I decided to give it a go. Man, I was not disappointed! it's funny, it's tense, it's generous and the level of humanity in it just blows my mind away. Some people says it's too long. For a reason I could not view it in its entirety, I had stopped half way and couldn't wait to resume the next day. It was like a little break and this did not displease me at all. I enjoyed most of it although to be honest, at the beginning I found one or two scenes slow but this was rapidly forgotten thanks to the humour added to the movie. Yes some scenes just cracked me up, particularly scenes with Toshiro Mifune. He was great in this role. I love the friendship among the characters, their sincerity and modesty. I only watched one movie of Akira Kurosawa before (Dreams) and honestly I kind of fell asleep in front of it but I probably need to give it a second try. I think Seven samurai is a gem, those who didn't like it simply did not get it, or were not in the mood to appreciate it. It's all a question of mood.
The Pursuit of Happyness (2006)
Wonderful..
Pursuit of happiness made me cry relentlessly. Because at the time I watched this movie, that was about 3/4 years ago, my situation was very close to that of Chris Gardner. I managed little by little to get out of this hardship since then, things are still so tough out there but anyway this is not the subject. 2 scenes particularly moved me to tears, I don't want to spoil so will not tell but man, how I felt the pain and frustration for Chris and his son! Having lived something near similar, I related so much to the main character. This is a movie about poverty, fight, love, determination. I'm glad they make movies like this, movies that show the truth of life, the reality of what perhaps millions of people endure every single day, at this very moment I'm writing this review: the lack of common basic human resources that allow one to keep going, a minimum of food and shelter for the night! The problem is that even after seeing this movie, those who can rescue the most destitutes may or may not bother doing it. I give the movie a 10/10!
The Gods Must Be Crazy II (1989)
A Delightful little movie
CONTAIN SPOILER: Again this is a movie that I watched when I was a kid, I remember all the laughs my siblings and I had all along the movie. And now as a parent I am rediscovering it with my own kids and hope they will like it as much as i did: and yes! they absolutely loved it. Mostly the second half. The movie takes place in the Kalahari desert. It's a sequel to The gods must be crazy I, just bit less funny but still very enjoyable. It's about the adventures of a little bushman and his kids, as well as other characters. We watched it yesterday. What a joy to hear my kids laugh at the many tribulations of the characters in the movie. There are different story lines intertwined resulting in a charming, funny, little movie. I'm actually surprised that this movie is no more famous. SPOILER: Our favourite moment is when they all tried to escape the hunter: so so funny! Totally recommend it to EVERYONE.
Aliens (1986)
Waow! still amazed by it
This is remarkable sci-fi movie, utterly brilliant! I watched it in my teens, loved it, and now i made my kids (11 and 7) watch it with me, boy how impressed were they! my daughter who already saw it few times said she hasn't had a minute of relief! that's how she felt, always on the alert for the next move. My boy could not take his eyes off the screen, you may think what kind of parent am i to let a 7yo watch a movie of this intensity? i do think it was okay for him, at the end of the movie i asked if he was scared, he said no, that he knew it was only 'fiction'. We watched it on TV with ads and stuff, he couldn't wait between each break lol. Sigourney Weaver is the ultimate heroine, the fighter, the badass, i wish they could do more movies with women as the hero! All the actors played splendidly, I've always been a fan of Michael Biehn, Bill Paxton impressed and amused me with his role of the scared, ironical talking soldier, the girl who played Vasquez was badass as well, top notch really. The chemistry between the little girl and Ripley was so touching, almost palpable. We absolutely loved Aliens!
Enchanted (2007)
Truly enchanting!
Just saw Enchanted for the first time yesterday and found it adorable. Amy Adams as Giselle was so lovely, her smile, freshness, sincerity, innocence, all in her character was adorable. I love that animation was mixed with reality, something we don't see often nowadays. The eternal theme of love, happily ever after, is reviewed for the penultimate time, and it's cute. I only watched few movies with Amy Adams (the fighter, man of steel, leap year)and never realized how good an actress she is. So this is the story of Giselle, beautiful damsel about to marry the prince of her dreams when she is sent to another place in an attempt to prevent the royal wedding, by the evil step mother queen of the kingdom. Giselle finds herself in a strange place, meet strange people and learn new feelings. Little by little she will discover that life is not a fairy tale. Absolutely loved it!
My Week with Marilyn (2011)
agreeable surprise
This is my first ever comment on IMDb. I did not read any other user's comment before watching the movie except for one comment from a movie critic, when the movie went out, which was perhaps 2 or 3 years ago. So the movie was on TV tonight and I was curious so gave it a go. I was agreeably surprised by My week with Marylin. Although Michelle Williams does not look at all like Marylin, and has got only a tence of Marilyn's beauty (no offence), she manages to recreate the famous star's manners and mimics. I would even say that she sometimes reminds me of her. But by Jove, if we believe the storyline, what a casse-tete it must have been for Laurence Olivier and crew to work with such a lunatic, inconsistent, irritating and yet beautifully fragile, superb, talentuous, indiscernible human being such as Marylin Monroe! I found the movie entertaining; the story was all too predictable but it still succeeds in charming me by its sweetness and innocence. So the entire movie is seen through the eyes of Colin, a twenty something ambitious, determined youngster who managed to find a position within a movie production and got the privilege to rub shoulders with the star of the movie Marylin Monroe in almost a daily basis within a short period of time, somewhere in England in the 50s maybe? Thanks to his job, he is lucky enough to get near her, and as the movie progress he gets closer to her (in all terms possible) and learns to know her and discover her sensibility and vulnerability. Which man on Earth would not fall for Miss Monroe in such circumstances and promiscuity? The main male character fit perfectly, he did a brilliant job, I literally sensed the birth and the blossoming of his adoration for her. I felt his frustration but his momentaneous relief too. That was very well played. Michelle Williams did a fantastic job as Marylin as said above. I was never a big fan of hers until today lol. I must say though that she was bit too thin, Marylin had gorgeous curves, that was probably a small et down to the movie. Overall, I enjoyed the movie a lot and would recommend it to those who like MM's movies.
