2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)
Crazy premise that could have been told in half the time
I personally know that so many sci-fi fans out there love this film, and it was a new direction in the entire idea of what science fiction is, but imho I thought it was fairly plain. I am sure in 1968 these computer generated scenes were a trip, but today they are so main stream. the whole time i was watching this in film class i wanted to grab the profs remote and fastforward it because it moves so slowly. and i know kubrick cut off like thirty minutes of this film, imho he should have cut off an hour more. the last twenty minutes is like a bad acid trip, and the whole idea of dan in a room, and the age progression, and the star child doesn't make any sense until you read what kubrik said about it....\ i don't know, just not my cup of tea.
The Sweetest Thing (2002)
One of the stupidest movies ever made
I love a romantic comedy like the next person, but this movie was dreadful. Diaz was horrible, and I am surprised that Selma Blair even agreed to this role. There are movies that are so stupid that the are funny, but this is not one of them.
Diaz falls in love with a man who is about to get married, only she does not know it.
Blair has a seen in which she chokes on a male body part, and in which a roomful of people break out in song.
Applegate is trashy and equally stupid in this movie, where women must act like sluts to truly fall in love.
I think the entire movie is a degregation to my gender, and I am not a right-wing Bible thumper, or a left-Feminist Nazi, I am just a real woman who found this vulgar and stupid . . . trust me if you see it, you will agree!!
Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961)
My favorite movie
What can you say about Truman Capote's masterpiece? It is brilliant!! Hepburn is wonderful as a young woman who is on the verge of insanity, but unknowingly to most around her. She is confused and lost in the world, and she meets Paul, both having sex with the wrong people, both confused about who they are and where they are in the world... they are"two drifters." Holly is a character that remains classic, and Hepburn played her brilliantly!! I love this movie, it will make you believe in love, and what girl doesn't truly love Tiffany's? Moon River is also a truly beautiful song that expresses the mood throughout the movie. It also has a few surprises, and is witty and charming.
It's a Wonderful Life (1946)
The Classic
My second favorite movie of all time. It is Brilliant and heartwarming, and a movie that reminds you of the value of life and friends. James Stewart is captivating, George Bailey is the ultimate average man, but he always dreamed that he would be a world traveler, go to college, explore and know everything there is to know about life. On Christmas Eve George is struggling, he feels that he is a failure, and wants to end his life. What happens next is what we all wonder, what would life be like if I was never born. This movie truly demonstrates that we are all interconnected with each other, and can never see our own worth. A great holiday classic that reminds you how important you are to your friends and family, and how important you are to them. Heartwarming and beautiful.
Crash (2004)
Excellent Movie
Excellent movie, it deserves the Oscar. It takes a lot for me to give a movie a ten. It is reserved for the greatest of all time, ie. Casablanca. But this movie is above exceptional, and definitely worthy of your time. Matt Dillon's performance is one of the riskiest and best performances that I have seen in a very long time, Oscar-worthy. All of the characters/actors take risks in this movie, but it pays off in a movie that makes you question your own beliefs.
The twists in this movie will keep you captivated, and the interconnectedness of events and characters is inspired. Great movie---highly recommended.
