Tobidasu rittai eiga: Inazuman (1974)
This movie is AWESOME!
NOTE: This review spoils the end of the movie.
As an Inazuman enthusiast, this movie was definitely on my must-watch list, and after my LOOOONG search of looking for it and finally seeing it, I have to say, this movie is one of the best 3D tokusatsu movies out there! The movie starts with an epic battle between Inazuman and almost all of the Mutant Robots, which is pretty cool. Three of them (Ishi Bambara, Akuma Bambara, and Abura Bambara) get attacked by a missile and escape. Then after that intense battle, Goro Watari meets a girl (not sure of her name, I watched it with no subs) who tells him about the Despa Army, and says that her father is lost. It also shows that the Despa Army is against the Phantom Army because a few of the members of the army, as well as Missile Despa, hold Teiou Bamba and Ishi Bambara as hostages. They later escape, and they capture the girl. (note that Akuma and Abura are there now) Akuma Bambara throws her down a cliff, and Inazuman catches her and saves her. Afterwards, Inazuman destroys Ishi, Akuma, and Abura, and finally moves onto Teiou Bamba, who turns into Kaen Fighter. After a kinda short fight, Kaen Fighter turns back into Bamba, and dies. Later, the Despa Army decides to launch an attack on Japan, which ultimately fails due to Inazuman (riding in Raijingo) interrupting their attack. Knowing that they have a new enemy, they decide to attack our blue and yellow bug-man in the lightning shark- saucer. We get a battle with Inazuman fighting the Despa Army soldiers, and afterwards, Missile Despa. This is where it starts to get epic. So, Missile Despa shoots one of his missiles at Inazuman, hiding behind a mountain, and apparently destroys him. However, this is not the end, as right after he blew up that mountain, a surprise came up from behind. Not one, not two but THREE INAZUMEN come out! The trio fights the missile-firing maniac, and eventually destroys him. After that scene, we got the girl, her dad, and Goro running on a beach. It then ends with Fuhrer Geisel, leader of the Despa Army, saying a message, and cuts to Inazuman on the beach before, swearing that he will destroy the Despa Army, and it goes to the credits, which shows pictures of the various monsters in the show. Overall, it's a very good movie, but it really shouldn't be a 3D movie in my opinion. The 3D isn't that good, and there's only about 3 scenes that are in 3D. Still, if you love 70's tokusatsu, check this movie out!
Sukeban deka: Kesshi no dasshutsu! Kyôfu no jigoku-jô (1985)
Good episode
NOTE: This review spoils the end of the episode
As a person who has never watched anything from Sukeban Deka aside from this episode, I have to say, this was quite interesting, so, with my limited knowledge of this show, I shall review it. The episode starts with some girl going to jail. Then her prison guard (played by Daisuke Ban, the only actor I'm familiar with in this episode) takes her to her cell. She says something to anger him, and he gets so angry that he slapped her across the face multiple times, which slightly shocked me. There's also one part where he was giving the girl her lunch, and when he was giving it to her, he "accidentally" drops it. Then he and all the other prison guards take the girls outside to work. Afterwards, when the girl goes to her cell again, there's another girl that joins her and brings her a rice ball. Then her prison guard takes the girl that joined the other girl and apparently started whipping her. (I'm not exactly sure what he was doing, I watched this with no subtitles, but I'm inferring that he was whipping her due to the guard's grunting, the sound of a whip, and the girl screaming) Finally, the first girl fights the guard, and is about to kill him, but instead of killing him, she tells him to change his ways or he will die. He said he will change his ways, but some other guy threw a needle into the guard's head, and he died. Overall, it was a good episode, but I don't think it was a good episode to introduce me to Sukeban Deka. I still enjoyed it, though.
Sûpâ Robotto Reddo Baron (1973)
Very boring show, not very interesting (unless you are a giant robot nut)
Super Robot Red Baron was a show I did not consider watching because I am not the kind of person who really enjoys giant robots, but after getting it for my birthday, I watched a few episodes and I felt a little iffy about it. Basically, there was a robot festival where there was a bunch of robots there, and the Iron Alliance, lead by Dr Deviler, took them all except one. That one was Red Baron. My opinion on Red Baron is that he looks more like a villain than a hero. He also looks boring and the villains are way more interesting than him. Take Goryu for example. He has a whip on his head and is powered by artificial rain. Red Baron, however, looks very generic and is very nondescript. Just look at him! He has no mouth and has very Giant Robo-like jointed arms. The only really good thing about this show is the Bicycle Inspector, who is the comic relief in the show, and the theme song, man is it epic. (if you want to hear it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RPtrS9vTo4Q) The actual show, however, is very boring. I do not recommend this show to anyone unless you are a giant robot show enthusiast and willing to spend your precious time on this show.
Aian kingu (1972)
One of the best tokusatsu shows in my opinion
Iron King is one of those tokusatsu shows that are just underrated, but I really do like it. So, as many know, this show has Gentaro Shizuka, a cowboyish dude with a whip, and Goro Kirishima, the guy who is Iron King. Iron King, the hero of the show, is nothing really special. Just a giant Ultraman-esque guy who runs on water. I do have a favoring for him, though. He just is a very interesting hero and it is probably one of the coolest toku heroes out there. For the first 10 episodes, they fight the Shiranui Clan. The guys in the clan have these black helmets (some you could see their full face the others you just see their eyes) and these apron like thingies that are black for the normal ones, white for the commanders, and gold for the leader. The monsters that they bring out are very human-like robots. Goro and Gentaro fight the Phantom Militia from episodes 11-18. They look very Arabian and have different colored bodysuits. They bring out saurian monsters. Finally, from 19-26, they fight the Titanians. They are white faced aliens with fedoras and capes on and are just pure nightmare fuel. They send out insectoid monsters. Anyways, this show is very enjoyable, and it has a good amount of drama, comedy, and sci-fi all mixed into one! I'm not going to spoil this amazing show for you, so go and buy the DVD and watch this awesome show for yourself!
