The Silence (2019)
Disappointed
I'll watch pretty much any apocalyptic zombie movie but holy moly this was not worth the trouble. Not only is it offensive to the hearing challenged, it's a ridiculous premise... zombie bats trapped for a million years in a cave that are released and kill anything they can hear?? Seriously. Don't bother.
La La Land (2016)
Happily Surprised
Well there you go. Three things I really hate: 1. Musicals. (with the exception of Grease and RHPS) 2. Clichés 3. Whistling. Given that; I expected to hate this movie but wanted to give it ti's dues strictly because of the amount of nominations it received. Yes, it had cheesy singing, I don't think you can have a musical without cheesiness. Yes it stole from other classics but it did it on purpose, with meaning, and while paying homage so I give it props for that. It was respectful of jazz as a genre and I respected the movie for it. The overall story was clichéd but delivered with conviction and I found myself with a cheesy grin on my face for a good chunk of the movie and certainly didn't expect to shed a tear. (shut up there was something in my eye). Would I watch it again? Probably not, but would I recommend it? Yes
Dead of Summer (2016)
Best thing about it is the soundtrack.
Think back to every cliché you've ever seen in a horror movie set on a lake and they're all here.
Young, pretty people, at summer camp, on a lake. Throw in a map shaped like the Devil, a creepy janitor, and spooky woods. Couple that with a super annoying lead female with zero gumption and even less likability and you've got the picture. First episode tries to leave the viewer with unanswered questions, but ends up asking 'Why did I even bother?'. The best thing about it is the soundtrack, and even that misses the mark. Don't care a fig about the characters and have no desire whatsoever to watch the next ep.
Quarantine L.A. (2013)
Painful to watch
Really just a waste of time. The acting is incredibly stiff, I even found myself prompting the actors with their lines, it's so predictable. The score is incredibly cheesy and obviously put together by a student filmmaker. The timing is horrible, the actors lines being delivered too soon or too late in almost every scene. Glaringly obvious mistakes and bloopers throughout. I was going to point some out but I'd be here all day. The story did not flow, make any sense or engage the audience. I actually found myself rooting for the 'infected' just to kill off some of the more disappointing leads. I honestly think that the positive reviews on here are planted by the friends/relatives of the actors and producers because it's just that bad. Wooden acting. Poor score. Mediocre story. Don't bother.
Amber Alert (2012)
Waste of Time
Seriously think I may have pulled a muscle with all the eye-rolling I did at this 'film'. So many plot holes and overacting I was left feeling annoyed that I wasted the time to give a newbie director a chance. Ugh. There were so many missed opportunities to build the suspense but they just threw it all in in the last 10 minutes. You could probably watch the first 5 minutes, skip ahead 20, watch another 2, skip another 20 etc, then watch the last 10 and you'll get as much enjoyment out of it as I did. The scenery was probably the best thing about this 'film' and that's saying something! 90% of the movie is set driving in a car... The bad guy deserved so much more time and the cops deserve a heck of a lot more credit. Why would they call off the Amber Alert?? Again, plot holes and overacting makes this a wasted opportunity.
