Iron Sky (2012)
Finland's most expensive movie up to date.
This may contain spoilers.
I saw this movie in a pre-showing of the film in Oulu. It was on March 2012 and I've been waiting to see this movie for some years. I had some conflicting expectations about the film and I from the beginning I was not sure if it's a good film or not. I did like the idea of the film though. Actually I was really surprised that something like this has not tried before. Even Nazi zombies have had their premier, but not space Nazis (??). Not that I know of that is. After seeing the film this is what I think: I think the movie looks great. The CGI is top notch. If you compare it to any Hollywood blockbuster you won't see much different. I also think this movie would look great if converted into 3D. Of course that would require even more money, but I hope some day this would be made (if not anything else, just for the special Blu-Ray edition). The story itself is good and if you can surpass the idea of Space Nazis from the Moon, you can surpass some other unrealistic aspects of the film as well. I did think that at some points the story was not doing its task, but I was not bored when watching the film. There were 1 or 2 scenes I would probably have left out, but nothing is seriously wrong with the film or story. Also the acting is superb. English language is very well done and the dialogue has proved much from the days of the crew's previous films (Star Wreck). Both of these are probably thanks to fact that the story is written by professional writers. I don't speak any German so I cannot say much about the German language. Other than it sounds very well done too.
This is the most expensive Finnish movie up to date (in 2012), but I must say it is not expensive in a World scale. If compared to a movie of a same genre: Year 2011 release Cowboys & Aliens had an estimated budget about 163 million US dollars (compared to estimated 7,5 million euros for Iron Sky). Yet I am a little surprised that the CGI in C&A is nothing better than the ones in IS. And for the story I could say the same thing.
For a quick summary I'll say to the end that the movie is above average as a whole. No part of the movie is really bad and it has some of really good scenes. If you are not against the idea of Space Nazis and like to see campy films about science fiction you cannot go much wrong with Iron Sky.
NDA - salassapitosopimus (2005)
This is a (Finnish) series as it's best!
The basic idea of the miniserie is so great: I Finnish cell phone manufacturer (fictional Makela Mobile - not Nokia) is launching new model and it has been proved to cause seriously cancer. The Company denies it all and starts huge fight against time. The main character (Saija Lentonen) is a former journalist and now Makela's head of PR.
This series is so many sided that you really can't say to who you should trust. It seems like everyone is involved.
The whole scenery is such a suspense and when the acting is great there isn't much bad I can say about series. It is something I'll get to my DVD-collection as soon as I get enough money and time to seek it up.
