Watchmen (2019)
Terrible writing
*spoilers, don't read if you don't want to be spoiled*
So, I will cut it short. Dr. Manhattan has been in love with Silk Spectre and he always says, how he is present in multiple times at once. But funnily enough, nothing about Silk Spectre, he just suddenly decides he is in love with Angela Abar and apparently has been forever.
Then at the end, Veidt, the absolute genius and smartest person on earth comes up with the idea of dropping frozen sea food to save the planet. Did I forget to mention that the password of Veidts sperm bank (keep in mind he is the smartest person on earth) is not only just 1 password (no additional security? No Multifactor Authentification?), it is simply "Ramesses II".
Regarding dropping frozen sea food, the frozen squids can cut through the metal of Trieus machine as well as her hand like it's nothing, but not through buildings, police cars thin roofs or Angelas tiny metal cover she holds up to run through the droppings and it's not even hurting her hand while she holds it up.
*Spoilers end*
The writing and story is simply atrocious. It had good promise, but totally falls apart during the second half of the season. Also, the season could have been cut to 6 episodes. There are way too many fillers to stretch the season.
The Trust (2016)
Oh dear
Well, this movie was a slow burner, but it was exciting...up to the last 15 minutes or so. It is a quirky movie and both characters are quite interesting individuals and they kind of grow on you the longer you watch.
Now, the ending part is just plain stupid. Without giving too much away, one of them is just plain stupid and very naive at the very end and it ruins the whole movie. I mean you watch it and just think "how on earth...."
Both, Nicolas Cage and Elijah Wood do a decent job at acting and do it well, they portray the quirkiness of these characters well and you really believe that is what they are.
The movie is worth a watch, if you really have nothing else to do, but you will feel disappointed or upset at a specific character in the end and that leaves you hanging in a weird mood.
Scorpion (2014)
It is a satire!
OK, I saw the trailer to this show just recently and from the trailer I literally thought it would be a parody of this superhero hype similar to Danger 5.
I kept on watching and the first few minutes of the pilot started out very well as a parody.
Following such a great humorous ridiculous start it continues nicely in a satirical way.
And then....the small funny punchlines to hit the parody out of the park kept missing and the serious acting seemed too irritating to be satirical. This was the moment I finally realised they try to be serious with this, for whatever reason.
Just a quick read to find out what the show is about already reveals high humorous promise. Compare that with given plots, the writing and I don't understand how they try to be serious. It's like a chimp with glasses riding a unicycle speaking German and trying to make this a documentary about Auschwitz. The source content is already highly laughable, the plots created even more so and then you create unfitting serious acting and dialogues without a hint of irony.
I still enjoyed the pilot as a TV movie and as a sister to the Fast & Furious franchise.
My recommendation to you, if you watch it as a satire, it is VERY entertaining. However, do not bother watching the episodes. They went all-in with the pilot and anything that follows is just disappointing.
Enlightened (2011)
Mirror.
I use IMDb on a regular basis just for reading reviews, although I always felt compelled to write my own reviews, it was not enough as most other people already have said, what i would have said.
For this specific title, I had to write something.
First of all, the show has been canceled this year and I'm glad. Season 2 final leaves a great ending point and I highly doubt a 3rd or 4th season could have topped it. Sometimes it is better to leave a little bit open for speculation, but not too open, so that people get satisfaction of a well rounded ending. It is perfect.
Why did I title this review "mirror"? Well, this series exposes and shows the truth about human nature and social interaction. About life. While watching it, sometimes I found it almost unbearable (like a car crash that you can't watch, but can't look away), because it was too true, showing the ugly reality. I'm fairly sure, many, many people can relate to some degree, or 100% degree to the characters in this show. All the traits and natures of us humans are shown from hypocrisy to forgiveness, love, hate, hopes, dreams, imagination and clash with real world, disappointment, resentment, regret, success, happiness and so on.
Right, so you think you might have seen it all before? Not quite.
It's not only the exposure of human nature, but we are constantly kept on our heels through this series, as happiness doesn't mean happy. Success doesn't mean successful. It plays with your mind and shows the viewer his/her own imperfections. How we judge and assume, how we guess and conclude.
It works so well from episode one. It could be something you disregard, but if you stick around, the well written script and the extra ordinary acting by all individuals involved will grab you.
