Ravenswood (2013)
Ravenswood is my new addiction.
Five strangers are thrown together and are hit by a fatal curse that has plagued a town for generations. What more could you ask for to hook you into the brilliant series Ravenswood. (A PPL Spin off) The mysterious and disturbing history of the town has me wanting more and fuels a need for the teens to find a way to stop the curse and save themselves. Classic actress Meg Foster is eerily perfect in her role as the resident psychic as are the 5 fresh faced kids playing the lead roles. Having come in cold not being a PPL fan (although I have seen the first season) I am intrigued by this show. I can see where Pretty Little Liars fans would not like it so much as it is really nothing like that show, this is more paranormal/supernatural, after all the whole town is haunted. I just hope the Caleb & Hanna fans don't try to sink the spin off in order to have Caleb back in Rosewood. He is so much better off here with his brooding persona. Ultimately Ravenswood is a bone chilling tale with a fascinating blend of chills, thrills, drama and mystery but most importantly don't have to be a Pretty Little Liars fan to enjoy the series (in fact you're probably better off not being one) so enjoy this epic tale of pure escapism into the hauntingly eerie town of Ravenswood.
The Lost Boys (1987)
Review
The story is not very complicated but it's very grabbing and interesting. I've seen this movie hundreds of times and it never gets old.
The acting is pretty good, no one really stands out but they all gel together well, Corey Haim (RIP) was a favourite of all teens at the time. Although Jason Patric as Michael and Kiefer Sutherland as David are the most interesting characters are best friends off set.
Most fans recognize Corey Haim as Sam and Corey Feldman as Edgar Frog, also known as "The Coreys" by fans are bff off set and starred in heaps of films together. The cute hottie with the comedian duo type is a show seller.
Barnard Hughes as Grandpa is the movie stealer though with his one liners and old style charismatic charm. Eccentric, mysterious and quirky yet with a hidden and vast knowledge. I loved his character.
The movie has great cinematography, colorful and at times Gothic. The amusement park backdrop is cheery yet suspiciously eerie. The scene of the flying vampires swooping down for their attack is bloodcurdling.
The special effects are mostly vampire make-up and blood. A few death scenes are chilling yet funny and are not overdone with hardly any blood and gore.
The soundtrack is amazing with awesome 80s songs that still seem rockin today. Cry Little Sister by Gerard McMann is the highlight of this movie, very creepy and disturbing, it is the perfect song to set the mood.
A perfect mix of drama, mood, colour, special effects, soundtrack and acting. It has achieved cult status and deserves it. This is the best Joel Schumacher film in my opinion. It has just the right amounts of gore, horror, comedy and romance.
If you haven't seen this yet do yourself a favour as it is a must for all horror fans alike.
