Fan (2016)
A step in the right direction.
As long time fan of SRK it was a reprieve to see the refreshing take on the superstar's true identity and his fan's craze towards their beloved star.
This movie works solely on the acting profess of SRK. His last few movies have failed recapture the charm of the king of bollywood. Though they minted crores of cash, it didn't do him any wonders in elevating him up the scale of the great actors. FAN, as the title says is certainly a step in the right direction for SRK, the kind of SRK we all grew up watching and being enchanted. Though, to be honest this isn't his best movie by a long shot, but it's truly enough to satisfy every die hard SRK fan who was disappointed with his last few outings.
The first thing to appreciate about this movie is the raw sincerity and efforts put in not just by SRK, but by the entire crew indeed. That surely sends in a message that we are in for a different kind of cinematic experience. Secondly, SRK in both the roles, that of a crazed revering fan and a superstar, nails it, His dialogue delivery as the local Hindi speaking Delhi boy is impeccable and his mannerisms as the superstar, to command love and respect among his fans as well as maintaining his conviction is a treat to watch. His role as Gaurav is incredibly haunting and is sure make you feel his pain and tear up at least in a couple of scenes. We all knew that SRK could flex his acting muscles and I'm sure glad that he did. Gaurav is one role that SRK has lived through and experienced the wrath of every fan of his.
The movie, which seems to be going strong throughout an engaging first half falters more than just a few times in the second half. Gaurav becomes a full blown vengeance seeking psychopath and the script breaks all folds and barriers of logic. It is still a mystery as to how Gaurav was able to make to the different foreign locations depicted in the movie and so conveniently deceives people posing as Aryan Khanna's imposter. And there are lengthy chase sequences between the 2 SRK's, and mind you, lengthy as in a 100 minute movie. It is a tragedy that though these chase adrenaline jerking sequences though beautifully choreographed, amount to nothing.
However, the movie still keeps it's audience at their edge by not seeping into a melodramatic tone. It is a performance driven movie that SRK carries entirely on his shoulders. It sure is sufficient enough for every "Gaurav" of his to fall back in love with their superstar. Definitely watchable.
Mastizaade (2016)
The kind of movie that makes you want to shoot yourself!!!
What the f**k did i just watch?! That wasn't remotely funny!
Well, I'm not the kind of guy that stands up for the Indian culture and whatnot! Occasionally I do enjoy some good adult humour. But more than that I enjoy a good laugh. Was that too much to expect.
This movie...! It gave me none of that crap. It gave me a headache instead. That too by the intermission. I was seriously contemplating leaving but my friends insisted that we stay.
This is a movie about 2 sex addicts....Oh wait! Let me get that right. This movie is about 2 idiots played by the real life idiots Tushar and Virdas(anyone who has a brain wouldn't have anything to do with this movie) who seek rehabilitation at the hands of 2 more idiots played by Sunny Leone. And it doesn't stop there. By the time the movie ends, you've already lost count of how many idiots are on screen playing a cartoonish version of their real selves. The acting is just horrendous! Horrendous is actually an understatement! Tushar can't act for sh*t! Sunny... pls don't get me started on her acting skills! Virdas is talented for sure and tries his best to deliver and save the movie but you're left wondering what on earth is he doing in a monstrosity like this! And the rest of the cast gracefully appall us with a myriad of overacting!
The jokes are disgustingly humourless! The writers try their best to make us laugh with an orgy of whatsapp humour(as we've already seen in previous adult comedies like this). And even some of the original jokes just come of as a desperate attempt to make an already exasperated audience laugh. I remember chuckling at one point of the entire movie and that wasn't even an adult humour, it was a character just saying something funny as in all other genres of movies. The rest of the jokes made me cringe!!! Seriously, every joke was a molestation of my senses.
But that's all right! I get it. This movie was made so that Sunny can resort to showing a gracious amount of skin and a ton of cleavage to Indian audiences in a country where there's no porn industry. Yeah, who cares about the story and the acting, right!
I have a ton of respect for Sunny. I truly do. She emerged as a strong and an unbreakable woman after that disastrous interview... But that doesn't mean I'm going to give her crappy movie a positive review! It's the kind of movie that makes you feel like you've just lost a couple of IQ points after watching it. On that note, run folks! RUN!!
