3:10 to Yuma (2007)
Best Western of the Last Quarter of a Century
it is by far the best western remake (even if they have not been many)since the the well known classic Unforgiven and in some ways its perfection in acting, direction, music and storytelling surpassed the original that was made in 1957. at first i was one those idiots who were sceptical about this remake as i liked the original a great deal and was not sure of the idea of having 2 non American playing western character, even was angry at the casting inclusion of the newcomer Ben Foster and refused to see at the cinemas for those reason but boy was i very wrong!! i have watched it more than once and still this film doesn't fail to surprise me. its the closest thing you will ever get to the spaghetti movies in terms of style and soundtrack but most of the acting style and dialogue that was so similar to those films i even doubted myself at times that i was watching a 2007 film with Crowe or Batman guy Bale. this film is not about good and evil or doing justice, in fact its about lots of themes and my favourite one was when Bale succeeded in making you believe who and what he was and.. i will not go in-depth because i want you to experience hell of a movie and it is definitely the only Oscar worthy film of this year and it will be a huge disappointment if this instant classic doesn't get nominated and recognised by the awards.
Rescue Dawn (2006)
Herzog honers war films
Why does it always have to be about politics? This film is not in any way or level a political movie so why do people keep criticising it and calling it one. This movie is solely about a man's journey from captivity to freedom, friendship and sacrifice. Christian Bale again has proved that he is the best of his generation by giving a performance of a life time along with Herzog who has reset the standard for war films. I have never been a fan of war films and when I heard about this one I had to give it a chance as I am a big fan of Herzog and Bale and to my surprise I was really moved and pleasantly surprised to the level of perfection in the acting including Steve Zahn' s who is best know for his comedies but proved in this film that he could also act as well. There have been many war films that attempted to look like non-political but never have any of those succeeded like Rescue Down. will recommend it definitely, both thumbs up
Klimt (2006)
Real disappointment from Malkovich
i have always been a fan of Malkovich's work but this one is a real stinker despite the good effort and the risks Saffron Burrows took for her role in the movie. the director's did a poor job since the film doesn't hold up or live up to the fame of artist. there is no opening shots,, the first scenes are so behind the purpose of the story.. the soundtracks were another failure by the director... the camera-work is odd and pointless and in no way helps the watcher follow the storyline,, the script is another stinker as its cheesy and odd (bad odd). overall, the film is not worth your while and watching for the purpose of knowing more about the artist is pointless since it will do nothing but misguide you ( you better off reading his book)... i would not suggest anyone to watch this film unless you are a die-hard fan of Saffron Burrows and wants to see more of her.
House M.D. (2004)
Best TV drama since the legendary Twin Peaks
Dr. House is now my second favourite TV hero of course second to Agent Dale Cooper. The show is uncompromising, heartless and suspenseful which what you would expect from watching an episode of 40 minutes but most importantly its intelligent and educational. Its educational because most of the science facts in the show are genuine unlike the majority of hospital related drams you see on TV which mostly are full of fabrications and non-proved science. Dr. House played beautifully by former comedian Hugh Laurie who literally has surprised me with his acting skills and the transformation from idiot Bertie Wooster to highly intellectual house who represents what every person should aspire to be, bald and brutally honest and sometimes does things which are perceived wrong and unlawful but at the end saves lives. The show is heartless and enjoyable but above all suspenseful hence highly recommended and it's the best 40 minutes of TV you could invest in with you time.
