The Squad (2023)
Era of the flaccid American filmmaker
This movie has a nice cast of attractive ladies, and all the ingredients (an opportunity if you will) for a super sexy, female led, action crime caper. It tried to be that. But of course, given it's an American film, director, cast.. it's jus more overtly sanitized, formulaic, chaste drivel that is currently common place in American independent cinema.. that is, flaccid, weak dudes trying to make something that should be erotic, super sexy but, nah, these dudes just can't make it happen, because people don't want that! Everything PG! Lol. So what we get is yet even more content that should be fun and sexy, but nah, we get another R-rated movie turned into yet another would be erotic movie safe enough for grandma and the kids. Hey it's tell filmed, well casted, but poorly conceived. Sanitized, prick teasey and yeah, off-target and boring.
Road House (2024)
Wow... is this awful for so many reasons.
One of the worst movies I've seen in recent memory. They completely missed who dalton was, as if they never even watched the original and it seems have no idea who the people of the original were. Also, just awful direction, writing.
This movie is supposed to be aimed squarely at all the 'strongly' heterosexual dudes who loved the first... yet, that doesn't stop them from eliminating even so much as a trace of sexiness they might enjoy (unlike the original), and instead replaces it with a naked dude walking around for 5 minutes. Yes right because that's what hetero dudes today want to see ... naked men. Sign of the times? Yeah, sign of bad times. Lol.
The fight scenes are dumb, some very poorly choreographed. All in all this is just idiotic, low grade, mindless garbage made by people who apparently have no idea who liked the original and why.
The Sex Lives of College Girls (2021)
Wow, did they ever ruin this show
This show was binge worthy in its first season, but what on earth is this season 2 mess? Feels like a different show to me.
I was excited about season 2 since season 1 was decent, clever, kinda sexy. It setup season 2 as possibly something unique out there in the new trend of childish prudeness that nobody asked for and almost nobody wants. The show had real possibilities of being that ONE show on TV that might actually be something sexy for the 20-something crowd, hence the show's title. But, yeah, no. You can chalk season 2 up as yet another show ruined by stupidness. Season 2 is lame, super-childish weak sauce. Not sure what happened. Basically nothing happens in season 2. The episodes feel incredibly rushed. Top it off with the fact the season 2 contains zero sex nor even a single scene that could be seen as "sexy." Nothing, literally. Why it has "sex" is in the show's title is strange and not clear at this point.
No thanks on Season 3. Save your time and money, "HBNO Unless You're Gay." :(
Fluidity (2019)
PG-Rated Erotica. That's always enjoyable. Yeah... no.
"A perspective of our time," one reviewer writes below.
Yes... meaning, the story is, of-course, childish and the filming of it reflects this to a significant degree. it's very boring. I mean, this called 'Fluidity'. It is storytelling about 'generation sex'... and it's "for adults" yet... of-course it's been heavily sanitized throughout, maybe except for the (again, of-course) lesbian sex scene.
Overall, one might get the impression an awkward 13 year old tried filming something sexy for adults. lol. That's the impression this thing gave me.
Revenge (2017)
A bloody splatter mess for gay men and, I guess, some women?
It's funny the film is being coined the "revenge of the male gaze?" Huh? Think about how none of it makes any sense. This movie exists exclusively to exploit it's main male character to prove an invalid point, which I assume is, what "men" enjoy is bad and shouldn't no longer exist? See how bad it is? Is that right? And this is a rebuttal for male gaze? by giving mostly gay men and a tiny number of women a male gaze in a, wait, a female form? Although... women don't like these kinds of movies... so ....?
I'm so confused. I think everyone else is, too.
This "gaze" in the movie is for gay men.. certainly not women.
Anyways. The movie itself is not very good. Quite shallow. But maybe that's the point? It is very well shot. Nice camera work. Very bloody and violent. The guy walks around naked through half of it to please this very weird "agenda", I suppose. The ending is absurd with this petite women walking around with an arsenal attached to her like she's Rambo but in reality the actress probably could hardly hold the gun up for more than 8 seconds.
My overall thought on this movie is..it's a symbol of a rather odd trend that ignores much of the audiences desires, and thus, "this too shall pass."
Fifty Shades Darker (2017)
Further proof American Directors should leave erotics to other countries
Exceptionally unsexy, almost childish approach to eroticism. Note to director, this movie is for adults not children.
For the longest time now, I would argue since around 2005, the American movie industry, perpetuated by mostly American female actors, have been evoking a near radical Christian view of sex and nudity. So, directors, even when they are paid to produce such content like this film, are not able to really liberate themselves, or allow themselves to push some boundaries even when it's supposed to. They just don't even know what that means anymore. And when they attempt it it's always so artificial, contrived and silly, again, such as this film. At least the first director in the film film showed off Johnson's beauty and body. This guy seemed to want to avoid that.
It seems American filmmakers feel an innate duty to hold back and editing is the tool in which directors and editors communicate their silly fear of it all. Eg, how they can shoot a beautiful actor walking across a room nude but they instinctively tell themselves, oh, that's too revealing, have to cut that way down, show as little as possible. But yes, pull her hair!, slam her around!, grind on her! But no frontal nude shots, because, that's not sex. This is the new American directors mindset. Where in other countries it's the opposite, a lack of fear and a desire to show the body over artificial explicitness.
In the end, this movie is more like an annoying MTV music video than it is an erotic story. The music over the sex is so annoying and childish. And rather than natural sensuality and beautiful naked bodies we get this absurd hyper-stylized depiction of sex where people work too hard to make it "seem" explicit.
I Spit on Your Grave III: Vengeance Is Mine (2015)
Ummm, k. What is this movie?
Another dumb blunder by people who simply do not understand genre film and have no business making them.
Apparently the geniuses who produced this said to themselves, hey, for all you fans of the original movies and the remakes before this, we thought you'd like a basic revenge drama, rather than a exploitation genre film.
Ahhh, no. No, we won't like that.
This movie will appeal to no one. Nobody. I don't even get what it is. It takes a classic exploitation genre and turns it into a boring lifetime channel revenge drama.
A complete waste of time in every way.
