The Mist (2017)
The Mist, but every character makes you angry.
Like the title said.
They had the wonderful premise of the original, but chose to go with a cast that seems to go out of their way to make you annoyed at them. Everyone seem to be sulking, angry, or douchebaggy. Some exceptions of course, some are plain unbelievable in their weirdness.
I really want to love this show since I'm a huge fan of the original, but it is so hard when there are no one to root for, Rufus the dog is top dog so far, but didn't really carry the whole season, sadly.
I've been blessed with the ability to enjoy a show or movie in spite of characters, just enjoying the stunning nature and village in which this show is set as well as the evocative mist and just imagining what could (should?) be inside, rather than what we're served.
Overall, I've watched it twice now and might to again, but it would be fun to root for the ppl and not the baddies to eat them as punishment for being to annoying.
High Life (2018)
J*zz in space.
Only watch this if you're into j*zz in space. As a lover of sci-fi and horror movies I gave this a shot. Turns out it's about said bodily fluid and ppl messing around with it. Absolutley no horror whatsoever, maybe they meant horrible? Maybe worth a shot if you're into incessantly jumping back and forth in the timeline though.
Regarding characters, they're apparently on death row each and everyone, so might be why they're all insufferable? Overall, I'd recommended anyone looking for a sci-fi horror movie to just watch Alien again, or any other movie in the genre for that part.
Soundwise, there's no soundtrack to speak about, but a lot of the time there's this beepinh noise atleast. We thought it was a car alarm outside our house.
Pikunikku (1996)
Freedom in containment
This is a short story about three teenagers in a mental institution (I'd prefer sanitarium because that is what it looks like) who, embarks on a trip to watch the end of the world. No need to analyze why but there are a lot of things they carry on their shoulders and when they get a bible from the minister it hints at consolation and they are quick to grab it. What is really apparent in this movie is the air of freedom; when they leave the gray, run down sanitarium it is all blue skies, refreshing winds and funny music (I'd love to have the sound track). I like this movie because of that, no matter how hard their lives are, there is always room for happiness, however fragile it may be. For fragile it is, in a blink of an eye it may vanish even though it may seem that it will last forever. It is a beautiful, yet tragic movie that I really recommend to anyone with an interest in the fate of people and their lives.
