Grady Hendrix as an author offers almost nothing to the industry and readership. Nothing he writes is new or exciting, in fact, most of his work feels borrowed from pop culture but somehow manages to make it unlikeable instead of trendy-sprinkled with misogyny. That's a talent I guess.
My Best Friend's Exorcism doesn't start out slow and pickup, it's just a snore the entire time. The friends have no backstory and you really can't find it in yourself to care about them. Adaptions are usually pretty bad, but I wonder if GH insisted on adding his two-cents to this film... one of those authors who think they're so talented they can also be a film director type.
I often recommend trying a film out for yourself regardless of how bad the majority found it, but this film is one I can safely say you'd wish you didn't see. You'd be better off spending the 90 minutes watching "influencers" on YT, which would be far more entertaining... which is really, really sad.
