Secrets of the Neanderthals (2024)
Slomo Neanderthals...
This documentary was awful. You learnt almost nothing about Neanderthals, but heard about the feelings and premonitions of the scientists... I was fast forwarding nonstop. It is a documentary not an action flick, why do they have to use all these slomo shots. The music is also overkill, what you see and hear is not matching. This one hour gave so little information. If you want to see proper documentaries about Neanderthals just go to YouTube. I highly recommend the "The Last Neanderthal" from BBC Earth. This is about the very last Neanderthals who lived in the Gibraltar caves. You actually get to know how they lived and eventually... perished. Yes, it was the climate change, because they had nothing to eat, the last of them died of severe malnutrition. What a huge secret, isn't it?!
Squid Game: The Challenge (2023)
Unwatchable
I was looking for this one, and yes I know it is not season 2 of the Korean original. Who are these people? Why are they so annoying? You should have just copied the Mr Beast YouTube version. Fake, fake and fake! A good idea was completely butchered by the delivery. Fake tears, fake people. Annoying music, classical music then suddenly something from the original show. I think the pople who are in focus were selected from Hollywood F list, you know, who play dead people or "crowd", fillers. And let's not forget everyone is so American. "Jesus" and the "Lord" and genral annoying stupidity. Could not watch episode 2... This show is a fail...
Sly (2023)
Not honest...
The recent wave of documentaries on Netflix is more than welcomed. Was looking forward to this one too. But it's not it. He skips all the inconvenient parts, like he made erotic movies (I know at least one). What about the accusations that he had affairs while he was married or was violent?
He speaks too much, he is "rewriting the script in his head" on the fly, good looking, buff but soft touch at the same time. Ohh, come on! Be honest, just be honest as Beckham said in his own documentary. It still has its moments, he earned what he has, I watched until the end but it feels more like a vanity project...
The Mandalorian (2019)
S3 is terrible!
First 2 episodes and I can barely stay awake... The story is non existent, only eye candy. Why was that large creature there? What are they doing? Why is that "thing" half robot half alive? No explanation, just empty cheesy eye candy. Season 1 was good, it seems like they totally forget what made the first good, now it is in line with the latest awful Ray trilogy.
I gave it five stars, 8 for the first season and 2 for the third, now that is five. They should have finished after season one, or it should have been an anthology. Every season, different character. IF you thought second season was bad... well, this is worse.
Smile (2022)
Hoping for a sequel!
It was a long time that I saw some really good scary movie. I saw it with my girlfriend, and she constantly grabbed my hand and put her nails in my palm. So I was louly "AAAA", was really funny 😅 Probably you need the proper audience, where I saw it the tension was palpable. Whole theater jumped when it was jumpy time. When it finished we were instantly discussing what could be in the sequel. It is obvious who the main character is now, I really hope he gets to uncover where "it" comes from, what is the origin, etc. He has the tools and power to do it. I don't want to give any spoiler, buy a ticket, rent it, you will not be disappointed!
Andor (2022)
Boring, boring, boring...
First - let's say - 3 episodes were OK, but now... OMG. It is so boring! I keep checking my phone, browsing the net, I keep losing interest non-stop. The story became so flat, and uninspiring. I don't like this "new" band of rebels, all of them are annoying, who cares what happens with them. The director is from the UK, that is for sure. The visuals, the costumes, the locations, all adds quality, really high production value. He also hired all his buds too, I have no idea who are these actors or actresses except the few leads. I hope this is the only season, I don't want to watch another one from this. There are so many stories to tell from the Star Wars universe, why waste airtime on this one.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (2022)
S1.E6 and I'm done...
This episode was so bad that I just cannot watch this anymore. I fast forwarded 3 times during the show... The caricature super bad orks, who are just evil for the reason to be evil... All the main characters, so annoying, especially Galadriel. Just for a second could she be a little humble?! She is stuck up, aggressive, unsympathetic, looks down on everyone. Are we supposed to dislike her? Are we supposed to root for Sauron?! Every episode is so empty, only eye candy, no real story or feelings. I recommend for the creators to watch some K-dramas on how this is done properly. I'm just not interested to continue anymore... I'm disappointed, because I was looking forward to this series so much. Such a letdown :(
Thor: Love and Thunder (2022)
Natalie Portman is irritating...
I did not see this in the movies, but watched it on Disney plus, and oh boy, what a let down! I turned it off after 30 minutes. I completely agree with others that this movie is a parody, and a very bad at it. The constant forced jokes, and way too loud glam rock music. Although, I did not see one point in other reviews... That how IRRITATING Natalie Portman is! She is a bad actress, with an attitude, cannot portray a strong woman, strenght or character... She should stick playing neurotic ballerinas. She should have never bought back, the previous one without her was much better! If she is the next female Thor, this franchise is done for me!
Foundation (2021)
Great story focused Sci-Fi!
I was blown away how good this Apple TV series is. Don't listen to the naysayers, babbling about the BOOKS. I read them long time ago, and yes this is different and fresh. And all the good way! The main focus is on the story and not on political agenda, the female lead is great and believable (Gaal) and I just love the "middle" emperor. Lee Pace is as good as it gets. Second episode, he was so emperor 😀💪 The CGI and the design of the show is flawless, on par with Disney's Mandalorian. Did they use "Stagecraft" too? Finally something worthy of my time, I just subbed to Apple TV for this show, and no regrets at all. Give it a chance you will not be disappointed! This is great story focused sci-fi!
Young Rock (2021)
Like a non-stop commercial
My only problem is with this show that is has nothing to do with reality. Like a long long commercial, everybody is always smiling, everything is fine, everything is.... fake. If you read about his early life, from interviews, etc. It is obvious that he had a hard life, but still managed to get to the top. Why fake it? Why pretend it was all peachy?! I don't want it to be a drama, just be more realistic, more down to earth, we don't need all this glitter. Good production, sometimes funny, but still a pass...
Tenet (2020)
OMG...
OMG...I'm still in shock how confusing this movie is. I absolutely love Nolan other movies, Interstellar is in my top 5. But this one... Just couldn't follow the story anymore. So many extra plot lines, not really explained or revealed fully. The pumping, loud music is also annoying. Who made this audio mix? Mr Techno? Didn't fit the movie at all. It should have been sg. classical. Great action scenes, great suits. I just loved how well dressed our hero is. Salute to the costume designer. Mixed bag. Enjoyed and not. Maybe second time on Netflix will help...
Leaving Neverland (2019)
Now the truth is out...
This documentary reminded me of Oliver Stone's great JFK. Lee Harvey Oswald was a patsy, he didn't kill JFK. Did they change the history books? Did they stop lying? No. But know we know...
Same with this documentary, now we KNOW that MJ was a pedophile. It is very said actually. He must have been hurt deeply when he was a child to become such a monster...
Hilarity for Charity (2018)
Unwatchable
I saw the adverts, and was looking forward to this. Oh boy... What a letdown! It stars with a weird, distasteful scene. Not kidding. Obvious fake laughters added, very farfetched, just painful to watch. And I just couldn't watch it any longer.... 10 minutes in, and I was out.
What Happened to Monday (2017)
Good movie Bad message
The movie itself was surprisingly good. Although it is obvious it was made on a tight budget, because the CG is rather cheap looking, the "background" is some European city, probably from Easter Europe, fits the story but - again - it looks cheap. Acting from Noomi is just excellent. One time she is hot, and some scenes later repulsive. Rare when a woman can be beautiful and ugly at the same time that well ;)
Let's get to the message that bothers me a lot. In a future where cities are boundless, pollution, starvation, nature is eviscerated to its final boundaries but ohh the children! So it is OK to overpopulate, reproduce like rabbits, screw the future but ohh the children. With a better script it would have been a 10/10 movie, but the moral message just takes away a lot from its values.
The Hitman's Bodyguard (2017)
Total bore... you've seen this 1000 times already
I watched this movie after it appeared on Netflix. I did not pay a movie ticket, otherwise I would be very angry right now. I was bored out of my mind! Samuel Jackson did his stereotype bad persona, frak this and that. My ears were hurting of the constant fraking. In Pulp Fiction it all had its place and time, and didn't feel forced upon you. It was the natural flow of what happened. Not here. Cursing for the sake of coolness. Nah, it will not make you cool it only felt sweaty. And all that super stunts, with a shot leg. Nah, again. Ryan Reynolds on the other hand brought his stereotypical Deadpool act. I just could not endure it any longer after 30 minutes. It is the classic example when they have the actors first and then just rush a script from old clichés, used already 1000 times in other action comedies.
Fear the Walking Dead (2015)
This is not what I was hoping for...
When The Walking Dead brother series was announced, I was happy that we get to see something fresh and finally forget about the "formula". Nah, not at all! Everything is the same! The main heroes arrive to somewhere where they think everything will be cool, and then it turns out that it is not. Someone is kidnapped / taken prisoner / dropped onto them, some people temporarily leave the team, but after a while everyone is together again. Minus the annual mandatory guest stars, and then go to an another place where they think everything will be cool and start all over again.
After season 2 I will just stick with the original, and finish watching this copycat, not interested in any of the characters, or the story. Should be 1 star, but 2 extra for Nick, although one character can not save a complete show...
Preacher (2016)
Sick garbage
I do not know the book, comic, what ever the origin is I sat down open minded to see some cool looking new series on AMC based on the trailer. Sick south rednecks walking around in their dirty sick redneck homes, shooting squirrels, etc. stereotypical nonsense. Some random sick disgusting characters appear without explanation, some weird stuff happens, what is going on here? Ohhh this is the black humor, I guess. Lots of booze, white stuff sniffing, what ever that is. It was a torture to finish the first episode, never felt any sympathy for any character, who cares if they live or die. Cigarettes/booze consumption is constant. Did a liquor or tobacco company finance the series?
Make up you own mind, but hopefully I saved some of you from a wasted 1 hour.
Scott Ian: Swearing Words in Glasgow (2014)
Terrible
I acquired the video, and it is.... terrible! He is dropping the F bomb every second, my ears started to hurt of the endless cursing. Fxx this and fxxx that, my fxxx band, and the fxxx whatever. This is going on endlessly.
There is some crowd, maybe 50 people in a pub. Not funny. The stories are far-fetched. I thought he will make some music, I dunno, play the guitar, or a cello, whatever. That should have been funny.
I do not know, because after 20 minutes just could not endure it any longer!
Avoid! Even if you are an Anthrax fan!
Sleepy Hollow (2013)
Zero chemistry ...
I had great expectation for this show, and started to watch it from the first episode as it aired. I stopped watching it at season 1 episode 9. I wasn't paying attention anymore, or barely. Checking other stuff on the internet, my phone, etc. The stories are reused from Supernatural, and have been on television for a thousand times already. What I miss the most is the chemistry between the 2 lead characters, Ichabod and Abbie. Zero, non existent. I can not even imagine them as a couple, or lovers, etc. Hardy as friends. Do you remember the TV series Eureka? Mixed race couple? Those 2 had great chemistry, I though they are real life couple or something, so I was surprised when I Googled it and turned out they are not. This series is doomed by its lead actors....
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (2010)
Same issue...as with the other episodes
I had the chance to watch this movie. For free. That is why I'm not upset, otherwise I would be. So I started to watch the movie.. and got bored, really bored. My friends around me were bored as well. In my opinion the main problem is with this movie are the characters. I do not care about any of them! I think the casting director made a big mistake, because none of the characters are likable, or someone you would remember after a while. The only exception is Prince Caspian, he is an OK actor.
In this new one, there was this guy, I already forgot his name. With the weird eyebrow, always complaining, the pain in the a** (he looked like a Vulcan). His voice didn't match his face. Was it re-dubbed? I felt like it would be so good to punch him in the face.
After 30 minutes I got asleep. Really :). I opened my eyes, and I realized I missed some minutes. Probably 5, or more. My mouth got dry from the popcorn, so I asked around. Do we want to watch this bore any longer, or leave and have a beer? We left. :P Avoid!
Defying Gravity (2009)
OMG... excellent!
I didn't know about this TV series at all. My bad I know. One of my friends gave me the DVD... so on a lazy Saturday afternoon I put it in the DVD player, and fired up the speakers. My girlfriend was very skeptical, she doesn't really like sci-fi.
And then we were blown away! Great cast, great CG, great story! It managed to captivate me, the sci-fi geek, and also my girlfriend, the soap opera addict ;) The space ship. OMG. I could feel the effort that the makers invested to make it as realistic as possible. The protect shield at the front, the propulsion system (ion?).
Venus, yes. Definitely a woman should be the first human on it.. they come from that planet you know! My girlfriend was holding my hand so tight when Zoe was trying to get back to the ship. Epic scene!
By late Sunday we watched the whole 1st season, wanting more, much more. Then I found the news that it was canceled by ABC... what a letdown. There were so many potential. Follow the crew as they explore other planets, reveling the mystery of the artifacts. Anyway, I will buy the DVD, put it in my collection of "best sci-fi movies". Buy it, rent it, watch it, you won't be disappointed!
Caprica (2009)
Unwatchable
Of course I was watching BG. I loved S1, I liked season 2, season 3 was OK, and loved the final one. Yay, there is a spin-off show! I didn't know about this at all, one of my friends told me about this. I was really excited.
I watched the first 3 episodes... What a piece of rubbish! Teenage girl drama fest. There is no science fiction... well, hardly any. At the end of every episode we can catch a glimpse of a Cylon. That's all. Who cares this? Did they decide that the next show's target audience will be females under 18? Boring religious nonsense talking, moaning, bitching... and some more.
It is just sad that there is nothing out there at the moment to watch. Stargate ruined, BG over...
The Lovely Bones (2009)
$100 million boredom
Well, I managed to watch through this movie. Was a tough job I tell you. The whole film was developing really slowly, I never felt that family was a "real" family. The chemistry was 0. The acting from everybody seemed really wooden. They spent a totally unnecessary load of money on special effects. How could this movie cost $100 million? Definitely the CG. Here, there, everywhere. Unneeded, unnecessary. Cliché, saw it 100 times already. The whole story just fell apart... I wasn't really caring for anyone. And the end... was baaad. You waiting for sg... and then it just didn't happen.
Mr. Jackson please please don't become the next one hit wonder George Lucas. It is time to make a good film again...
