Les affamés (2017)
Nice idea
This movie was a great study for me. Robin Aubert's version of a zombie movie may not satisfy every genre lover. This film goes an unusual way to tell the story of usual helpless survivors. Yes, I agree, not everything is explained, not all scenes are decoded and I often thought, why they don't do this or that. And then I you find simply fantastic moments. Like an absurd comic situation in all that tristesse (and I like the Humor in this movie! I pet they had a lot of fun). Or beautiful landscapes beside of studies of splitting blood. And then I was as well very pleased to have some poetic moments as well. Why only 6 of 10 points then? If this would be an Indie movie with low budget I would rate this film much higher.
Everest (2015)
What an amazing story
This film was special to me. And watching it was an experiment for me. I have read all the reports of the eyewitnesses. And when you dig you can find that almost every person that climbed Everest in 1996 has written a book about what happened. Most interesting to me was that every single person had an own view on it. And as things went wrong - terribly wrong and ended in chaos everyone had an own truth. Some blamed each other - some blamed the nature, or the mountain. Most of them blamed the climber and adventure business and some came to a catharsis point of view on it.
Knowing all those stories, the shared emotions and views i was very interested how someone can adapt this complex story into a film. Is this even possible? I was sure that i will be disappointed at the end as i was sure that it's impossible to fit such a complex story in 121 minutes.
So i went to a blockbuster cinema, bought the obligated pop corn and put on the 3D glasses. In the end i went out and had the following in my mind: wow: 3D is really amazing. Maybe it has even more effect when i don't take seat in the 11th row. Maybe the 5th would be better. Some really great shots from the mountains of the great Himalaya. Some amazing and really good made Spezial effects that gives an impression of the storms. Really good actor performance and i also liked the cast.
But, well, the story. I think it must be really difficult to tell a story that was designed by reality and that is so complex. Krakauer really did that job. Even if we can blame Krakauer for his blaming against Anatoli Boukreev, even when we don't agree with all his point. His book "In the Thin Air". is the best source for getting an overview to the whole story.
What else is to say? Well, the film was Okay. Nice film - but the story is just too big for a single movie.
Conducta (2014)
A great Film with an important message
Conducta - Behaviour This film starts with powerful images and the authentic energy of the young talent Armando playing Chata. This film is not just a actual insight view of the Cuban social reality and its change, this film is much more. This film is statement.
First it needs to be mentioned that the performance of the actors especially the play of the young actors is absolutely world class. Congratulations to the casting department.
The story, or better the multiple stories that are told during this 108 minutes fits. Every narrative makes sense. No minute is lost. Writing, acting, shooting, music - everything was created on a very high level.
But why is this film a statement.
This film offers for everyone and everywhere on this earth a lesson to learn. This lesson is created around Carmela, the teacher. It is a story of courage against cowardice. A story about real and authentic humanism against the brutality of indifference. The counterpart of the moving behavior of Carmela is played great by Silvia Águila in the character of the social worker Raquel.
This universal lesson is: It is easy to follow rules, laws and prejudices. Everywhere and in every social system we have those that hide themselves behind political correctness, adjusted unit and titles. In the name of nice labels as for example child care they bungle into the life of other humans. A bad but widespread behavior.
A great film. Highly recommended.
