A delightful watch for a brilliantly executed movie.......
After many days, Chetan Bhagat's novel, by the same name, saw the light of the day and finally adapted to screen after much initial delays. If you didn't read the book at first, then the movie will be an interesting watch for you. For those who have already read the book, it would be delightful for them to translate the text to movie scenes. The story deals with how two souls met at a premium MBA institute of India, IIM Ahmedabad and how their friendship turned into a love affair. But the journey from love to getting married is not so easy to travel, in India. Here not only the lovers need to love each other but their parents also need to love each other. Hence starts the journey of Krish,a Punjabi boy and Ananya, a Tamilian brahmin girl from falling in love to finally getting married. The first thing to be noted about this movie are the brilliant performances of the lead characters, Arjun Kapoor and Alia Bhatt. The terrific chemistry between these stars directly brings out the characters from the pages of the book and makes you believe that you are not watching a movie. Alongwith them, Ronit Roy,Amrita Singh, Revathy and Shiv Kumar Subramaniam also performed brilliantly. The screenplay was sharp, intelligent, neat and tidy. Music was good, but could have been better. New time director Abhishek Varman did a commendable job by taking the best out of everyone. Highly recommended. A movie that deserves repeat watching.
Bombay Talkies (2013)
An honest notable effort to celebrate 100 years of Indian Film Industry....
An honest effort to celebrate the glorious 100 years of Indian Film Industry. 4 short stories directed by 4 top notch directors of present times (Karan Johar, Dibakar Banerjee, Zoya Akhtar, Anurag Kashyap). All the individual stories delves into the lives of ordinary beings and how movie has always played an important part of all our lives. Giving out the summary of the movie will spoil the movie itself, so I'm restraining out here. Out of the 4 stories, 2 stories (Dibakar Banerjee and Anurag Kashyap) will definitely leave an indelible mark in the mind of audience. The other stories were good but not as good like these ones. Music is not so great which was quite contrary to the expectation as it is celebrating 100 years of Movie industry. But direction is top notch. Some performance will stay with you even after you leave the theater like that of Nawazuddin Siddiqui & the man who went to Amitabh Bachchan's house. I wont say highly recommended, which actually raises the expectation of the people, instead I would say give it a shot.
In Good Company (2004)
A nice Sunday evening watch.....
Well all story doesn't have a happy ending but neither do have a sad ending too, this saying goes perfectly well for this movie. I happened to have seen it after seeing it in IMDb. I didn't expect much from this movie as its very poster was not so impressive. Even after watching it, I wont say to have been much impressed but its a nice try to watch it in a Sunday evening where you have no where to go. The story begins with Dan (Dennis Quad) office being taken over by Globecomm CEO Teddy K. The newly appointed chief is Carter (Topher Grace) who will now head the office with Dan being his "wingman". But life changes for young, vibrant, dynamic Carter after his wife left him few days prior to their anniversary and Carter happened to have meet Dan's elder daughter (Scarlet Johansson). After a short stint at their house, they gradually falls for each other. What follows next forms the climax of the story. A nicely shot movie with good performances by the lead characters. A tight screenplay will make you watch this 110 minutes movie. Background score is not so impressive and doesn't leave any mark. I would not say recommended but if you are running short of movies, you can give it a shot.
Gone Baby Gone (2007)
Hard Hitting and near perfection real...Recommended for all Dramatic thriller lovers...
Well, I watched this movie after watching The Town by Ben Affleck. Seriously, I didn't like The Town and hence had little expectation from this movie. But 10 minutes into this movie and I couldn't stop biting my nail. The story deals with cracking a child kidnapping case.Patrick (Casey) is a private detective who has been hired by a missing child named Amanda's maternal uncle and aunt, to help them find out Amanda who has been kidnapped from her house. What lies ahead is a rough road which when traveled eventually led to the mysterious unfolding of all the characters who are directly and indirectly responsible for the kidnap. If you don't watch movies by swearing candy floss entertainment, the climax will haunt you for a long time thinking whether the protagonist took a right decision or a wrong one. A perfect thriller with engaging performances, well executed direction and a fat-less screenplay makes it a must watch.Recommended.
The X Files: I Want to Believe (2008)
A great plot ruined by the screenplay
I just happened to download this movie due to the reviews which I got to see here. But I must admit, this was one of the worst mystery movie I have ever seen. A mystery movie based completely on the faith of God and continuing its journey on the basis of it seems to be quite unnatural at times. How can one expect that a kidnapping case will be not solved by the FBI & its masterminds but by a priest who visions are taken into account by the FBI to solve such an important case.
The subject was quite interesting but the weak screenplay will make you look for the ending time. NOT RECOMMENDED.
My verdict 3/10
