Misguided
15 January 2024
I always wanted to start my own charity, and figured I'd take a modest salary comparable to my current one so I was very excited when I saw this movie was coming to my local theater. And I tried to like it, I really did, sitting from start to finish trying to empathize the entire time with these non profit CEO's advocating for the justification of giving themselves large 6-figure salaries. Yes, the people featured in the movie did wonderful jobs raising funds but no, I'm sorry, you just don't go into the the non-profit sector looking to make money. Anything above your salary should go towards helping your cause. Your reward is the satisfaction of knowing you helped others. Your reward is knowing you'll be rewarded in the afterlife if you believe in those things. Giving yourselves large salaries gives the impression that you're really not in it for the cause at all - like when I go to these Earth Day/Animal group fundraisers and I see all of their employees eating meat and dairy! Follow your convictions and, if it truly is about what you believe in, then know that you're destined to a simple, modest lifestyle modeled after helping others, not yourself.

A review with a Zodiac slant.
10 November 2023
After watching this attack on 'The King' by his ex-wife, I had to go on IMDb to see how his fans would react and was surprised to see that it had a robust 7 rating. Guess there are more "ex-wives" out there watching this than there were Elvis fans ...

I saw some of me in my failed marriage and wondered when Elvis was born. Sure enough, Priscilla portrayed him as a control freak and, that's just what a majority of people born under the Capricorn sign are. We are fun, charismatic and loved by many - but make terrible spouses ...

It is portrayed that Elvis wanted someone he could control after going off and whoring it up on his movie shoots, even describing Ann Margaret as "every other Hollywood actress" - caring "more about their careers than their men." In his defense, here's a man who could've had almost any woman on the planet worshiping him at his feet and he just wanted "the perfect woman" to fit the role of not being like that when he got home ...

Every couple has their problems, and Elvis is not around to defend himself and Lisa Marie I've since learned had vehemently denounced this movie before she died (although she wasn't around when all this took place and we all know that daughter's love their Fathers unconditionally ...) so why now? Because Hollywood obviously wanted to capitalize on the success of last yrs 'Elvis' movie.

Keeping that in mind, there was just no need to air this one-sided dirty laundry. I'm sorry i saw it.

Unsolved Mysteries: Body in Bags (2022)

Wgere Is the Mystery
28 May 2023
First off, my condolences to the family.

The police and the family both know who did it and the culprit is now on the run - where is the mystery? I saw several people complain that episode 1 wasn't a mystery, either, though I believe it is. This one clearly is not, it's just no more than a run of the mill 'America's Most Wanted' - like episode. While I do hope that they find her and bring her to justice, this episode is the first episode ever in the three seasons that left me disappointed.

My guess is that the show's creators were forced by Netflix to toss the it's fans a bone to finally get a "mystery" solved so it can generate more press for the show & Netflix itself ...

GO ON THOSE HS KIDS SOCIAL MEDIA ACCTS!
28 May 2023
First off, my condolences to the family for their loss. Of course they are going to say their child wasn't suicidal and I thought this episode was going to be a weak attempt by UM to convince us that she wasn't because II didn't see much contradiction in the Transit Authority's accounts, all I saw was another Attorney trying to capitalize on some family's grief. But then the HS kids talking about what they heard convinced me that someone talked and someone knows something, If the family is reading this, get out your daughter's HS yearbook and start going through every kid in that school's social media accounts - all of them - because these kids today put everything on there.

Nuclear Now (2022)

Maybe Oliver's Right?
17 May 2023
Stone starts off the movie by showing how the world was seemingly united on the dream of using nuclear energy for good back in the 50's & 60's but them big oil & coal used their influence to steer public opinion away. Hmmm, they do that? Is that possibly why, despite knowing how bad fossil fuels are, we're still addicted to the stuff 100 yrs later? Maybe I, too, was duped by their anti-nuke propaganda - but there are some flaws in Stone's sunny brush-overs ... all 3 major nuclear accident events are all just written off as problems caused by "poor design". Does he not think that the oil & coal industries, along w/ grimy corps like known polluters GE & short-cut takers like Halliburton aren't going to have their paws in the overhaul of our country's energy source? Or that we won't be buying fake steel and defective parts from China? And that 1 nuclear.accident, albeit extremely rare, has the potential to exterminate/radiate all life forms within hundreds of miles - Sweden detected high levels of radiation 2 days after Chernobyl, and they're over 600 miles away. But we do need to move away from oil & coal once and for all, and this new technology of recycling/re-using the nuclear waste would solve a half century-old dilemma if it were true. I say let's power back up all the existing decommissioned plants here in the U. S. until solar & wind is finally ready to take over ...

4 STARS for the 4 x's I laughed
10 October 2022
I heard twice this week in passing from two separate news outlets how this movie bombed - like that's some kind of news-worthy story, And when I was late for the movie I wanted to see and saw that this movie was starting in a few minutes, I decided I would support this "bomb" instead. The lead character 'Bobby' was just insufferable - how the heck could anyone possibly be interested in him. And if my date ever talked like that at a restaurant in front of my family, I would've told that person straight up that it's over and they need to leave. The opening Grindr hook-up scene, the museum staff discussing bi-sexuality, the black gym dude voice scene and the lesbian tackle squad all gave me a good chuckle - a star for each ...

A Fun Ride
31 August 2022
The trailer looked stupid and I'm not an action film guy but my kid - who hates action films, btw - forced me to go because supposedly the guys who made 'Deadpool 2' made this and he knows I love' Deadpool 2' (one of the very few sequels that I ever thought was better than the original) so I reluctantly went and I'm glad I did. Lots of twists and turns and I had good laughs at the Lemon impersonation scene, the Lemon wake up scene, the Tatum & Ryan cameos, the old man trying to share his wisdom with Ladybug - and they finally gave that water bottle it's 5 minutes of fame! Good stuff, you will enjoy this movie ...

Rare Movie that DIDN'T Entertain Me
10 August 2022
I only see one movie/wk so I'm very easily entertained - until this movie. I tried to like it, I wanted to like it but ultimately I didn't. But I'm not one of those people who like to bash stuff, this is somebody's baby and a lot of time and effort was put into the making of it so I will try to find the positives ... It certainly is original (+1), no one else out there is making movies of talking shells that I know of. ... The 60 Minutes segment was cute and gave the movie some cred (+1) ... and the use of my favorite Eagles song was a nice surprise (+1) = 3.

A Good Underdog Heartwarmer
10 August 2022
I only see one movie/wk so pretty much everything entertains me but this one more so. You deff get caught up in her back story and you're just pulling for her the whole time. You actually want her to kill Chase. Good stuff.

An Enjoyable Homage to the G.O.A.T.
20 July 2022
I'm a fan again. I had forgotten all about how when I was about 6 or 7 I wanted to be him and how I used to play the 45 of "Crying in the Chapel", one of a dozen.45's I stole from my sister, over and over and over again. Wore that groove out! But he died when I was 10 and all you remember of him now is the bad movies, bad jumpsuits, bad diet and bad parodies.. But this movie does the man justice and re-establishes him as The King. The only reason I didn't give it a 10 was bc I found the portraying actor's looks to be distracting, but he was excellent and Priscilla's got nothing but praise for his portrayal.

If you're actually reading this, I honestly thought it was going to suck and only saw it bc the movie I wanted to see was sold out and I'm glad I did ...

Multiverse doesn't disappoint
22 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I only see 1 movie/wk so it's very rare that I'm not entertained. I write these reviews for myself so that I can remember the movie ...

Took my 90yo Mom to see this for Mother's Day - bc that's what my kid's wanted to see! It was so entertaining that she actually stayed awake the whole movie - a first in probably 50 yrs - despite the comfy reclining chairs that always knock me out & us seeing a "late" showing (7:30) bc the other times were sold out.

I really enjoyed all the time traveling and the magic. Only a few "flaws" in my eyes - how is Scarlet Witch so much stronger than an entire school of Sorcerers which included Strange & Master Hadir? And why do they make Master H so much weaker than Strange - his little hand waves and other body motions never seem to have the same effect.

And let's do a better job speeding up the time Hadir & Strange get there to save the girl. Witchy is just about to kill her and then they cut away to show the slooow climb H has to make up the mountain - why can he just fly up? - and Strange takes to revive his other body from the dead instead of showing that BEFORE she's about to lay waste. Gives the appearance that Witchy waited 15 minutes before going in for the kill.

And now what? Wanda was off her meds, killed a bunch of people and ... they all forgive her and she rejoins the Avengers again?

Warning: Not warm & fuzzy
22 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I watch 1 movie/wk so I'm easily entertained. I write these reviews for me to remember them by ...

Why did the Uncle only send 2 guys to kill the boy & where was the other when he escaped the first's clutches? Maybe bc he was initially only 5 ft away behind a rock and Unkie didn't think he needed more than 2? And how did no one see him enter the slave ship? I must say he has amazing hair cutting skills - and can swim a mean open-ocean breast stroke while fully clothed ... . And how coincidental was that that the ship brought him right to the Uncle who he could've killed on the first day but decided to hang out a while. And instead of the Uncle just killing him, he let's him "hang around" for the lady friend to rescue him in a glowing white gown and a white horse in the dark of night. I know, I know ... a willing suspension of disbelief. And did he really have to put that extra boulder in an already full cart?

His Mom and future baby's Mama all tried to talk him out of his fate but in fairness, he did have a tad bit of a life-long grudge he had to finish. Wouldn't you if someone killed your Dad and almost you?

Overall: I really liked the witches and the spells and all the other medieval hoo ha.

Actually quite entertaining ...
22 May 2022
I was "forced" to see this as the other half dozen movies I wanted to see more either were sold out or the times weren't convenient so I went in w/ very low expectations and come out pleasantly surprised. His alter-ego scenes were hysterical...
