Greenland (2020)
Not a bad watch at all
My wife and I were wanting to find a movie to watch while we ate dinner one night and stumbled across this. I'm a little biased towards apocalyptic/sci fi films so it intrigued me to begin with but man.. this movie definitely keeps you on edge. My wife and I could not turn away. It is a little cheesy at times and maybe we had fairy low expectations but overall we throughly enjoyed the movie. The movie does enough to keep you tense while you're waiting to find out what happens next in the plot line. I was very impressed with how interested I was with the story and where the characters were traveling to to keep me engaged. Definitely a recommend for a late night weekday watch.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023)
Not what I expected but overall comical, enjoyable movie.
This movie did not really play out like I expected it to be. I thought overall the movie was enjoyable with it not being too cheesy or too drawn out. If you grew up playing all the variety of Mario games (like myself) you are sure to love all the cameos and reference to different characters, games, and even items that you have seen throughout the Nintendo world. There were a few other "notable" Mario world characters I would have like for the movie to include but overall was not a hard movie to watch at all. Had a simple plot line with a good sense of humor tied within it. Like I said before, with the movie being only around 1.5 hours it makes for a good family movie night movie.
The Last Kingdom (2015)
One of the best historical dramas out there.
I simply could not stop watching this show. For all Game of Throne lovers this show is right up your alley. What makes the whole series even more incredible is the historical ties this show is intertwined with. The show is a perfect combination of history, action, and yes even drama/romance. This show is fairly graphic on the violence and there are brief scenes of nudity- but the series is definitely a family favorite that everyone will come to enjoy. I highly recommend the show if you have the next few weeks free as you as the only thing you're going to want to do it watch this whole series nonstop.
Monster (2022)
The serial killer documentary that hit different
This the first serial killer documentary that was ultimately so disturbing and unsettling. Could not stop watching until I finished every episode. The acting is absolutely incredible by all the main characters. Evan Peters never fails to fully embrace a character as he does with this show, and Neicy Nash was a phenomenal actress that really help out you into the shoes of someone who was so negatively impacted by just knowing Jeffrey Dahmer as an individual. This series is very dark but accurately highlights the horrors that went along with this whole scenario in the late 80s and 90s
Truly an impressive mini series that highlights that terrifying life of Jeffrey Dahmer.
The Gray Man (2022)
Mediocre spy movie
A very typical Netflix action film. Ryan Gosling and Chris evans did a good job acting but overall just another generic spy film. Worth the watch if trying to kill some time.
Jerry & Marge Go Large (2022)
7.5 - wholesome content
A great family movie night find. Has a set of A-list actors that rely portray the atmosphere of small town USA scenario. Interesting story with an engaging plot line. Not the most exciting movie but definitely a great feel good movie to watch.
Jurassic World Dominion (2022)
Disappointed Dino
As an avid lover of the Jurassic Park series I had high hopes for this movie. Unfortunately they were not met with the cliche plot line and same scenario as every Jurassic park movie. I did have higher expectations for this movie I will admit, but it seems this movie was written more for money aspects than actually sitting down to write a clever plot line. Almost felt more like a James Bond action film than a Jurassic park movie at times. Definitely worth a see if you are into the other previous movies but it is my least favorite of all the films.
Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore (2022)
Decent but does not live up to the hype
The movie has a good amount of action that keeps you engaged. However, the movie seems almost rushed and very busy. I am a little biased as I loved Johnny Depp in this franchise and believe he could have made this movie better. Still had decent effects though for any HP franchise movie.
The Weekend Away (2022)
Not worth the watch
The acting was sub par and the plot was even worse. Watched to just kill a couple hours and was not even worth that in my opinion. Poorly written unfortunately.
The Batman (2022)
Great performance for new Batman
Absolutely riveting. Robert Pattinson channels Bruce Wayne exceptionally. People tend to forget Batman is human (not a super human) and has had dark trauma and Pattinson really exemplifies this. There were some quirks that were slightly disappointing for someone who grew up loving DC like the bat Ave and bat mobile, however, aspects like these made Batman seem a lot more realistic and I appreciate that. Overall great movie that is worth watching.
Peacemaker (2022)
Incredible but not to watch with the family
This shows was hilarious and had an actual good plot with it. Definitely has the f-word as every other word making it not the most kid friendly show. However, was still a good show all together. Graphics were not bad either for a tv show. Can tell they put time and effort into this and it's appreciated.
Awake (2021)
Was so terrible I had to finish
This movie had potential but it was quickly diminished with the unrealistic scenarios and the terrible plot line. The ending of the movie is not necessarily comforting and climix is essentially anticlimactic if I do say so myself.
The Titan (2018)
Slow futuristic sci fi
Not a feel good movie for sure but it's decent if you're into evolution and futuristic sci-fi shows. Interesting concept but nothing too thrilling. It's a decent time killer to say the least and I don't regret watching.
Cheaper by the Dozen (2022)
Disappointing
I loved the fact that the movie had an interracial marriage but the distortion of making a family movie so political is disappointing. Granted I came into the movie with high expectations as growing up loving the Steve Martin cheaper by the dozen, but still this movie was just overall not enjoyable. Was excited for Chrishelle Strauss to play a role in this movie but unfortunately they cut her trying to move the movie in a different direction.
Anon (2018)
When crime meets the future
Really interesting futuristic sci fi crime movie. Similar to black mirror in the sense but is cleverly written and keeps you entertained. Decent movie that is good enough for any movie night.
Paradise Hills (2019)
Unusual movie with great actors
Very weird movie with a star packed cast. Acting was great with these notable movie star names. However, the movie is very unusual and different to say the least. Will keep you guessing and had a great bridge but the ending is a bit odd. Not a bad watch but the ending will definitely leave you with a weird feeling to say the least.
In the Shadow of the Moon (2019)
Interesting sci-fi
Not the most warm feeling movie, however, a very intriguing and interesting take on a sci-fi film. Definitely has a plot that'll keep you guessing. There are some slow parts fo the movie but finishing the movie had a good closure of the whole plot. Not a bad film if you're scrolling through Netflix.
Extinction (2018)
Better than expected.
Surprisingly better than I expected. Definitely adds a twist that takes a different turn. Not a bad movie and recommend if you trying to find something to watch to kill time.
Prey (2021)
I think I'd rather do algebra than go through that again.
This is not that suspenseful and such a waste of time. Had great potential for the first five minutes but was just not professionally well done. The best part is the scenery and the best actors are the trees.
The Lion King (2019)
Three changes should have been included:
The remake of the lion was without a doubt incredible. From the angles to the CGI- it was spectacular. However, there were three main flaws that could have really put this movie to be a 10/10 and captivated more of an audience.
1) Scar's solo of "Be prepared" was a total let down. Lasted a whole thirty seconds with a couple verses and nothing much of a chorus. This song had the ability to really set the tone for the antagonist (Scar) and his teaming up with the hyenas, but this song turned to be a let down and more of a "Hey, I'll help you get more food if you help me kill Mufasa."
2) Mufasa's death was SO underplayed. The scene was not near dramatized enough and the moment between Scar and Mufasa before him being pushed off the cliff lasted a whopping 2.4 seconds. Don't get me wrong- still super emotionally and heartbreaking but the moment definitely could have been more intentional and empathetic.
3) The reconciliation between Simba and Nala was way too quick. In a matter of two minutes Nala reunites with Simba and they immediately fall in love and never once really play the fact that they've been separated for years and both haven't seen each other since they were cubs. It was all way too rushed and Disney should have spent a little more time reconnecting their relationship when meeting in the jungle than just instantly making them fall in love and then "departing" after two minutes.
Overall, as you can tell by my rating, I thought it was phenomenal except for these three instances. The music (for the most part) was incredible, the realistic animation of the animals was remarkable, and the ability to keep the originality of the cartoon film with a new sense of humor was astounding. For instance the scene when Pumba and Timon distract the hyenas was perfect. They did not try to "one - up" the hilarious, original scene, but instead made their own clever yet still comical scene that made the audience roar with laughter. The movie should have been made longer, because it felt like it was kinda rushed at some parts (see numbers 1-3). However, this is my favorite Disney remake to this day, and I will definitely be returning to theatres to see this movie again.
