Stonehearst Asylum (2014)
Highly underrated movie, surprisingly smart and will keep you wanting more
I only watched this movie because it had the word "Asylum" in the title (Honestly - I just hoped it would have some Arkham Asylum type crazies in it). I did not have high expectations when I started watching this movie...
Was I pleasantly surprised - it was a GREAT movie and I almost wanted to watch it again. I liked the characters and their stories, the setting as well as well as the plot twist at the end.
I must however point out that the fact that the movie description/summary I read contained a key spoiler - this did not spoil the movie for me, but I would have enjoyed the film even more had I not known certain details.
I thoroughly enjoyed this fantastic movie and I was a little bit sad when it ended.
Left Behind (2014)
One of the WORST movies ever made....
Characters are 2 dimensional, boring plot and some scenes that just makes you cringe....I am so relieved I watched this alone so that I could just fall asleep without having to be forced to walk out of a cinema and demand my money back...
Girl meets guy at airport briefly, apparently some connection, but by the end of this horrible movie they are somehow connected at the hip...no idea how that happened.
The story is absolute rubbish as well...just like the books. No surprise there, bad fiction that manages to fool a lot of people. I am not surprised that this movie got bad reviews from both secular as well as Christian critics - it is truly a horrible film.
I don't even know why I watched this :(
The Maze Runner (2014)
Fun and entertaining, but I might be biased...
I was super excited when I first saw the trailer and I really enjoyed the film when I finally got to watch it.
I read some user reviews on IMDb and realized that a lot of people did not enjoy it as much as I did - this made me step back and rethink things...I don't want to be one of those people that have a knack for enjoying bad movies (e.g. my parents). Fortunately I found the problem...
I read all the Maze Runner books long before a movie was even in the pipeline - I LOVED the books, I found them in my search for more dystopian type novels. Yes, I am also one of those sucked into the dystopian/post-apocalyptic craze... Anyhow, my theory is this - because I already knew the story I was able to understand and make sense of the movie without realizing that it actually leaves a lot of plot holes and unanswered questions for viewers who never read the books. As a fan of the books I loved the movie as it brought the maze and characters to life.
Long story short - if you read the books then this movie should be fun and leave you hoping for a sequel. If you did not read the books then it is likely that this movie might be a bit of a disappointment for you. Because of all I just mentioned I changed my score from a 8 to a 7 as I would want more people to read the books because of the movie and I don't think the movie pushes people to the books like the Hunger Games and Twilight might have...
