Serenity (2019)
Bonkers McGronkers
Insanity cinematized. Imagine a movie written by a genius who is too drunk to see. This movie will keep you guessing the way a hurricane keeps you guessing which way the wind will blow the rain in the eye. Good luck and enjoy
In the Mouth of Madness (1994)
scattered but fun
Sam neil is the best actor at portraying someone who is insane but doesn't think they are, or someone who isn't insane but whom everyone else thinks they are
Splinter (2017)
does a lot with a little
This high-concept low-budget short story does a lot with a little. a great reminder that as long as your frame is small and your focus is tight and you are willing to get creative with monster lore, you can have the feeling of a whole horror world and mythos with just a couple conversations.
Booksmart (2019)
Perfect high school movie
This move was hilarious. Reminded me of Superbad. The cast is hilarious and the direction is fun and creative. A real delight of a comedy that hits emotionally without ever being nihilistic. So many moments capture exactly what the end of higschool is actually like.
The Terminator (1984)
Superb and still relevant
A masterpiece of characterization, performances, plot, production design, and thematic intrigue.
Skippers (2018)
SKIPPERS RULES
This movie skips nothing, diving right into the heart of what makes rock-skipping, like poetry, so much more than it seems--infinite, even, if you examine it from the right perspective. That's not to say it's an art film. It's an absurd comedy, which is the highest form of art. If such a statement rings true to you, then you should not miss this movie. That's just theme though. You also have in SKIPPERS beautiful acting, strange cinematography, and touchingly written characters, even when they are making jokes about themselves, about movies, and about life. Bottom line, SKIPPERS is fun and meaningful, just like throwing stones and watching them move over water.
Wedgerino (2015)
Beautifully absurd
I loved this story. It made me laugh in unexpected ways. The absurd dialogue was very refreshing. The actors were also convincing. The filmmaking simultaneously makes fun of film convention while embracing it. We were entertained, and I've been recommending this to friends who are weary of the usual way approaching comedy. You don't realize how much freedom there can be in a comedy until you see something like this.
