Dracula (2020)

Brilliant mini series, love everything about it.

First off, I love vampire stuff. I don't know why, but I can't get enough of it. Unfortunately we don't get a lot of "good" vampire stuff. This series was excellent. The actor who plays Dracula, Claes Bang, was amazing for this role, seriously, WOW do I hope to see him in more things.

I saw this pop up on netflix recommended the other night and decided to give it a go, and could not stop until it was done at like 5 in the morning. Dead tired the next day, worth it. I still think about this show every now and then and the first couple days afterwards I couldn't get it out of my mind it was so good.

I go back and forth on wishing it would be a nice long series with seasons full of amazing episodes. The other part thinks what they did was brilliant and making it a nice LONG three episodes was the best route. I still want more though! If you like vampire stuff, I think you'll like this.

UFO (2018)

Decent movie...

So with all the usual B movies that are constantly out, when I saw this one I was a little hesitant.

I was pleasantly surprised though, as the movie is pretty good. It's a little bit of a slow burner though, and it doesn't show aliens at all if that's something you're looking for. This isn't scary in any way.

It's a decent movie though so if you're into the subject, give it a go.

A Quiet Place (2018)

Unless you're the type of person who maybe prefers the drivel like Saw V, in which case, this movie probably isn't for you.

The creatures in this movie locate purely using sound, they can pick up noises that are louder than background noise, and they pinpoint it and quickly reach the thing making said sound. There are hints at other survivors out there, but at the same time it's hinted that they are still dropping like flies. Imagine all of the daily human things that happen that would be next to impossible if you all of a sudden could NOT make a single noise, as your life depended on it. How would you raise kids? How would a mother give birth? How could you possibly survive this in the face of a foe who seems to have no weakness?

I read another review that gave this movie 1 star, and his largest complaint was that in the movie everyone is barefoot and they place sand down everywhere they go to walk on. This reviewer then goes on to say how tennis shoes make no noise and that you wouldn't need sand. LOL. Needless to say, he would have been one of the first to go, tennis shoes squeaking on the floors the whole time he tried to run away. Come on people, is common sense just completely gone?

Anyway, this was a Great movie, something different than the usual super gore-fest drivel, something new, or at the very least a new take on something. Every actor in the movie acted beautifully, especially John Krasinski's performance as both an actor and the director. He just knocked it out of the park. I've always liked him ever since I first saw him in the Office, he's going to make great things.

The Perfect Host (2010)

Amazing...

Well I watched the trailer and couldn't believe my eyes NILES starring in a serious role?!?! (he may have starred in many for all I know, if so I apologize!)

Anyway, I had to see this. And what can I say, at first when I saw the trailer I sort figured out how I thought the movie would go, and boy was I..... WRONG.

This movie has some twists and turns, it's written fairly well. There's a couple cringe-y parts in there but they are meant to be there. I can honestly say, I never expected where this movie went. I didn't see half of it coming, and it was great. This movie is unique. The acting was superb. I only wish I could watch David Hyde Pierce star in more films like this.

This truly is a hidden gem. And don't take my word for it, look at the score up at the top yourself.... that isn't just handed out to ANY movie on IMDB...

Spinning Man (2018)

Great acting, slow burner...

I enjoyed the movie. In my opinion the writing was really good, and they tried to make it suspenseful but it wasn't very, in my opinion.

Guy Pearce plays a college Philosophy professor who just so happens to own the same looking car as the last person seen before a young woman went missing. Or was it him? Pierce Brosnan is going to figure it out, as he's playing the homicide detective. Along the way, Guy's wife is trying to figure out if her husband could have really had anything to do with this.

I don't have really anything bad to say about it, but it wasn't the best movie that Pearce or Pierce have ever been in, though they do act well together. I'd love to see them do another film together.

This movie is a slow burner, it REALLY gave me sort of a "Memento" vibe while watching it. They probably could have made it better though, there was plenty of room for improvement. But like I said, I enjoyed it. Decent flick to pass a couple hours.

Annihilation (I) (2018)

Very eerie throughout. Excellent atmosphere.

What would happen if panspermia happened today, to our existing life on this planet? And sort of had an intelligence to it?

This is basically the premise to the movie. I don't know how "deep" I would say the movie is, but it is still very very good. Watching it at face value alone is a good experience, so if people find deeper meaning as well, which I would love to find myself if I watch it again, then that's even better.

This is a great sci-fi movie, has plenty of things that are interesting if you have even half a brain, and is as profound as you want it to be.

Murder on the Orient Express (2017)

Excellent movie...

I'm not sure what is with the harshness of every single review now days, I don't know if it's just cool to hate everything and have absolutely no joy in your life anymore, but I'm sick of it so I am going to start reviewing more movies now. At the very least the ones that I feel aren't being given a fair chance or rating. Seems like every single movie just gets slammed now days.

This movie is excellent. I have to start off by saying that I haven't read the book, so if you're the type of person who's read the book and are excited to see the adaptation, I cannot comment on whether you'll be disappointed or not. Movies rarely seem to live up to the book though there are exceptions of course so let's not get stuck on that. I just feel like it's very hard for a two hour film to live up to who knows how many hours you spent on the book. There's only so much they can do with the time they have.

I personally went into this movie knowing nothing about it besides what I saw in trailer and read in the plot synopsis here on IMDB. And the movie was fantastic. Now I have to say, the trailer gave me the impression that the movie was sort of a comedy, and to me the movie was quite different. It has a tiny bit of comedic relief here and there but it is a fairly serious film. The trailer does not do the movie justice.

The movie does try to be a puzzling "who done it," but towards the end you may be able to figure out what's going on. This doesn't subtract from the movie at all. It's well written and adapted, and EXCELLENTLY acted. I would suggest people watch this for the acting alone, it's fantastic.

This a great little film and I loved all of it. It's unique, has a great setting, and enough mystery to keep you wondering for almost the entirety of it. It has a fantastic cast of A-list actors, all of whom play their well written parts extremely well. There's a bit of comedy sprinkled in here and there, and it's a very enjoyable hour and forty-eight minutes or so.

The Hitman's Bodyguard (2017)

Great action flick, tons of comedy.

Why can't anyone just sit back, turn their brains off and enjoy a movie anymore? Does EVERY movie need to be Jason Bourne or some sort of crazy twisty-turny thriller or something?

When you saw Deadpool did you enjoy it? Was it an amazing Xmen movie or was it because of action and Ryan Reynold's personal brand of comedy?

This movie is great. You get the genius acting and bonus comedy of at least two A list stars, with cameos from at least one other, and a couple decent B listers too. Is it predictable? Sure. But is it still entertaining? You bet.

Stop trying to Siskel and Ebert every movie and just enjoy it?

Sleepless (III) (2017)

Just.... ugh.

Okay... so all of the actors were great. The story was promising. The writing was fine. But there are so many plot holes in this movie that I couldn't help but yell at my TV while watching this movie.

Decent action movie, worth a watch if you're bored. But honestly if I was ANY of these actors, I would be so angry with whoever edited this film together, because I don't believe for a second they went along with a script like this. They edited out so much of the plot that they basically destroyed the movie.

Taboo (2017)

Possibly the best acting on television I've ever watched....

Obviously it's not hard to see why, with Tom Hardy leading...

This show is so amazing it's hard to find the words. It's like one huge elaborate puzzle, and only Tom Hardy knows the way to the finish. And we all just get to sit back and watch him take us there. Though I don't want to diminish any of the other actors, as literally each one of them are all doing a very superb job. Taboo literally has the best all around acting in a television show that I've ever seen. At the end of every episode, it is unbearable to think that I have to wait another week to see what happens next.

The time period for this show, for me personally, sets the entire mood. It REALLY gives off a sort of Old London, Jack the Ripper feel while watching it. I'm not sure how else to describe the mood of the show, but that feels right.

Tom Hardy's character commands the screen. When he's on, you don't want to miss a single word or grunt. Taboo also has some great dark humor to release stress build-up at crucial times.

I apologize if I'm being vague, but I don't want to spoil a single thing. If you are looking for a show to watch, look no further.

The Whole Truth (2016)

Great movie, Keanu returns to being a lawyer!

The movie starts out as a mysterious "who done it," and is able to keep this mystery going for most of the movie. More than once I went back and forth in my mind between who I thought was the real culprit, and at the end I can say that I was actually somewhat surprised. Though to be fair I must say that the twist isn't all that huge; it's more of a twist because the writers withheld some key evidence from the viewers until the very end, but they did hint at it once or twice.

The Whole Truth is a slow burner. There's never much action taking place, and there's not really a whole lot of depth to any of the characters. The acting is well done however, and I thoroughly enjoyed Keanu Reeves, Renée Zellweger, and Gabriel Basso. While I also enjoyed Gugu Mbatha-Raw's performance as well, I didn't find her character all that necessary to be honest. I'm guessing her character was just meant to be sort of a distraction, and she was.

So there you have it. The Whole Truth is by no means a blockbuster. It's not a twisting thriller.... but it is a decent watch. I enjoyed it.
