Cradle of Fear (2001)
Yeah, so...
It's got all it needs to be called a movie- a script, a soundtrack, actors, special effects. All of them terrible. I rated this a '1' because less than that is not possible. Seriously, this is quite possibly the worst movie I have ever seen.
Bloody Drama (2017)
Were it not for a terrible script and actors...
What a load of garbage this movie is. Don't even bother. I'm not sure what they spent $2000 on but they wasted it.
Slumber (2017)
Decent horror
I was pleasantly surprised at this flick as I was not sure what to expect since there wasn't a review yet. I'm not actually going to put any spoilers in, so you can read on without fear.
Basically a new twist on another recent, terrible film about sleep paralysis. This one is worth watching though, I promise.
The acting is very good all the way around and although there were a couple of plot holes, they're forgivable.
One thing I would throw out to the film makers is that I think they made a mistake in offering up too much of the story right off of the bat by somewhat pre-explaining what was going to happen. I think it would have been better to be more vague about the description and let the viewer discover what was happening.
A Closer Walk with Thee (2017)
Cast and friends of cast are the only way this turd got the rating it did.
Terrible story with the seemingly sole purpose of bashing Christians and actors that couldn't pull their weight in a 3rd grade play. This is a complete turd from start to finish. I'm getting really tired of movies that exist only to push someone's political or religious views and this movie is the perfect example. Complete waste of time.
Nails (2017)
I don't know about a 5.8 rating, but it had its merits
Not a turd, but could be better. The story was pretty original and the acting, for the most part, was good.
I really like Shauna Macdonald and thought she did a really great job with her role even though the medical circumstances weren't really believable from the stand point of the equipment they used. Had they been, her delivery would have been much more powerful. They really could've used a medical consultant for accuracy, but I can forgive that.
Some holes in the plot concerning "Nails" past and how he came to be trusted in the hospital after they found him to be psychologically disturbed. I wish they had taken the time to polish the plot as there wasn't really a resolution in the end.
At any rate, it was worth a watch but I felt it could have been a lot better. I'm sure other reviewers will not be as kind, but I'm trying to concentrate on what was there rather than what wasn't.
Nightlight (2015)
It's actually a decent movie.
A lot of people are slamming it for being another 'found footage' film, which I agree with; it's time to put that crap away and start shooting regular films again- this one would've been so much better without it.
That being said, the acting was pretty good and the story was interesting. The special effects were good, what there were of them, and well played.
I'd like to see this remade without the found footage BS in it as a regular film, but it was worth a watch and entertaining.
Patchwork (2015)
Previous reviewers are spot-on...
I can't do a better job than they did, but I do want to add my two cents and say that this actually was one of the best movies I've seen in a while. The script was good, as was the acting and it was an over all fun movie- very entertaining. The tone of it at times is along the lines of 'God Bless America' wherein people that make you loathe them get their just rewards. Definitely worth a watch.
Attack of the Killer Donuts (2016)
Attack of the Killer Donuts delivered what it promised...
If you sit down to watch a movie titled 'Attack of the Killer Donuts' and think you're going to get Oscar level material, well that's your problem.
It's a B movie that doesn't take itself seriously and neither should you.
The actors are promising although unpolished and part of this is due to the script, but it was worth a watch.
Just a goofy movie with a goofy premise and meant to be chuckled over. I actually watched it all the way to the end which is far more than many movies these days that try to put on a serious performance and miss the mark.
Souleater (2017)
No spoilers; the movie does that on it's own.
User xsagaroth's assessment is likely spot on where they believe the other two reviews are from cast/crew. This film is a complete turd. There is a saying: "Good, fast, cheap. Pick two." and it's clear that the decisions made in this film did not include the first option of 'good'.
The Remains (2016)
Standard family moves into haunted house story but...
There was really no backstory to the haunting. At the beginning of the movie we see a seance gone wrong, but it flimsily just makes it that the medium dies and is now the evil spirit killing everyone in the seance.
No backstory on the spirit itself, just a quick how do you do and off to the sad family with bratty kids and clueless father.
Then we get a mediocre build up that just kind of stumbles along and an ending that seemed like it was done with the motivation that 'well, the movie has to end so let's do this.'
Killer Legends (2014)
An excellent examination of several urban legends and the true crimes that may have inspired them.
I really enjoyed this piece! Rachel Mills and Joshua Zeman do an excellent job of examining several urban legends and the crimes that may have inspired them. I would really like to see them turn this into a series that explores true crimes and studies the twisting of the facts by the general public. Rachel and Joshua take a first person role in examining the facts and perceptions surrounding several high profile murders that spawned or at the very least bolstered urban legends such as the man with the hook, the babysitter and the caller and 'killer clown'. Their objective look at these is very believable and I think would do well in an ongoing examination of other high profile crimes and how facts get twisted in the retelling.
