What...?
26 December 2023
I don't even know where to begin with for this movie...?

Mainly it was just a bunch of random segments trying to tie together to one cohisive story that really made no sense at all...!

The best I could gather from the story: it's about a junior wrestler who gives up the sport to make a movie he hopes will wake up his comatose friend for Christmas, with the help from his father who is an Olympian wrestler with a strange side career himself - and that's how I can describe it to the best of my ability.

To call it a movie is a bit of a stretch - I would rather describe it as a fever dream that had somewhat of a concept behind it.

Okay... no more and no less
17 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Just watched the movie tonight with a friend after rewatching the first movie.

The movie takes place about 30 years after the first one and we follow Emma (played by Fanny Leander Bornedal) who is the daughter of Martin (played by Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), the former nightwatch at the Forensic Institute where he and his girlfriend survived the attacks of the crazed serial killer, Inspector Wörmer (played by Ulf Pilgaard). However, the family never got over the trauma of that fateful night; Kalinka committed suicide when Emma was younger and Martin is now a broken man who don't speak of the events.

Emma, not a medical student, wants to break free from the trauma that has haunted her family, thus she starts by taking her father's previous job as the nightwatch. There she learns that Wörmer didn't die but has remained in a come-like state for the past decades at the Sct. Hans Hospital, the largest psychiatric hospital in Denmark. Emma makes an unauthorized visit to confront Wörmer, only that results in a new chain of fateful events in a bloody revenge scheme against those who sealed Wörmer's fate.

In general, I thought the movie was... okay! No more, no less!

It's an interesting rendezvous so many years later which could work on paper, however, there were a multitude of elements that didn't worked for me personally; although we get a lot of neat callbacks and a few intense moments, the new movie wasn't as scary as the first one, a lot of the characters felt more like charicatures (especially the new ones), and I guessed the big plot twist too soon to be taken completelly out of the whole movie watching experience.

Therefore, 'Nightwatch - Demons Are Forever' gets a 7 out of 10 from me!

A brutal but powerful movie!
9 November 2023
"Tove's Room" takes place in Copenhagen in the 1960s where Tove Ditlevsen (Paprika Steen), one of the greatest female poets and authors of her time, is waiting a guest for lunch; the younger Modernist writer Klaus Rifbjerg (Joachim Fjelstrup) who is interested in discussing their common passion in litterature. Tove's husband Victor Andreasen (Lars Brygmann), who is the chief editor of Ekstra-Bladet, is also at home after his mistress has cancelled their appointment, but he is not excited for the company of Rifbjerg, as he suspect him of having an affair with Tove. However, he participate the lunch, where Rifbjerg ends up being the key witness to their dysfunctional and toxic relationship, where there isn't that far a distance between love and hate, and where sweet compliments are mixed in with malicious sarcasm from both parts.

This movie is based on a popular play by the same name and is somewhat based on the marriage between Tove Ditlevsen and Victor Andreasen who in real life could be extremely cruel to each other. It is rather brutal to watch at times and you end up not taking anyones' side in a conflict best described as intellectual masturbation bordering on verbal and physical abuse. However, the dark humor is perfectly mixed in with the more serious subject matter, and the acting from both Paprika Steen and Lars Brygmann is among the best performances I've seen from both actors.

A bit one-note
15 July 2023
On the surface, the joke is not bad at all... but the novelty wears out quickly, when you take a joke fit for a quick gag and stretch it out to an 11 minute sketch.

Basically, the character of Dip Dunham is an extremely innocent man who only see a revolutionary kitchen device when the rest of the world sees... um... something else. It does a good job of parodying the repressed and censored infomercials from the 1960s; it just added to Dip's blissful ignorance, whereas when we switch to modern times it becomes too obviously which direction this is gonna go (especially when hiring porn stars... what, I only know this through IMDb, lol).

In general, a solid joke in itself that just should have ended sooner.

A visual pleasure for a food enthusiast, but lacking in originality
18 May 2022
As a Dane, Anders Matthesen is an insitution in himself; he is one of the most wellknown stand-up comedians we have in our country, and to see him tackle on a more serious role is quite refreshing. Also, I am quite a foodie myself, working as a food prepper at a deli and as a home cook/food blogger, and to me the highlight of the movie was showcasing Tuscan cuisine as well as the beauty of Tuscany. However, the script and plot of the movie was not very spectacular in execution and felt kind of tired after a while, and while some of the characters were quite likeable, in the end they made a lot of choices that didn't really make any sense.

Morbius (2022)

Just above average
5 April 2022
Morbius doesn't bring anything innovating to the superhero genre, but then again, we have kind of been spoiled by 20 years of development in these kind of movies. It was very rushed at times due to it only being a 1 hour and 45 minutes movie instead of a 2 hours feature (which is kind of the standard) and it wouldn't have hurted if there was just 15 more minutes to flesh out the plot and characters. On the plus side, the acting was rather good, especially on Jared Leto and Matt Smith's part, and it didn't take itself too serious to come with a few Marvel in-jokes.

So over all, it was an above average experience.

Eh?

Without making an elaborate analyzis of the program, at least it's better than The Goop Lab...?

To me, at least, I didn't feel like this was just trying to sell me something or pressure me into buying Goop products, so there's that at least...? Bottom line, although it gets weird at times, it feels a bit harmless in some way or another.

A charming and fun fantasy sketch comedy webseries!
24 January 2021
"1 for All" is a true pleasure for any fan of the tabletop roleplaying game Dungeons & Dragons. We follow our heroes - Antonio as Atrius the vain and charming human bard, Eva as Evandra the bloodthirsty half-elf fighter and Nicole as Nix the pyromaniac tiefling sorceress - guided by their faithful Dungeon Master Patrick who also plays the parts of every NPC (Non-Player Characters) they encounter, regardless of age and gender.

Each episode is a self-contained encounter of battles, mischiefs, and pure comedy gold for any tabletop nerd like myself.

A fun and actionpacked viking adventure!
20 January 2021
The 13th Warrior is based on the Michael Crichton novel Eaters of the Dead and is the story of Ahmad ibn Fadlan (played by Antonio Banderas), an Arabian poet and diplomat who is chosen as the thirteenth of a band of viking warriors who must travel to the North to free a kingdom of an evil force. The movie is a mix between the historical account of Ahmad ibn Fadlan and his meeting with the vikings and a much bigger portion of the story is a kind of retelling of the Anglo-Saxon epic poem Beowulf. I liked it a lot because of the acting, the cinematography and the action. Though I am not too sure about the casting of Antonio Banderas (my guess is that he was popular at the time) I had a great time in general.

Dark Dungeons (2014 Video)

Great, if you don't take it too seriously
16 April 2020
"Dark Dungeons" is based on the Chick Tract of the same name, which tells of the dangers of Dungeons & Dragons. When college students Debbie and Marcie enrolls into the world of tabletop roleplaying games, they enter a world of darkness, madness and an evil cult set on awakening an ancient evil. Will Jesus Christ be able to save them?

As a tabletop gamer and D&D player myself, I have of course known about the Satan panic in the 80's, of which Jack Chick's work is highly prolific of; with anti-roleplaying groups, movies like "Mazes & Monsters" and obvious the Chick Tract, upon which this movie is based on, I often just laugh off the lunacy of the fearmongering against D&D. I just can't take those claims about it leading to Devil worship, murder and violence serious, when not only am I a member of that community and know it very well, but also that thanks to internet shows like "Critical Roll", D&D has become more mainstream these days.

I actually liked this movie for a number of reasons; if you know anything about the producers of this movie, Zombie Orpheus Entertainment, you'll know that they mainly focus on popular movie and web content aimed for the geek community that are into sci-fi, fantasy, and tabletop gaming, such as "The Gamers" and "JourneyQuest". They have also produced games themselves. So it would be no stretch to believe, that the reason why the script may be a bit lacking and the acting is not all that convincing is because they were mainly not taking it all that serious and were just poking fun at the sourcematerial. On the other hand, this is actually an official film adaptation with Jack Chick himself signing his approval of the movie.

The best way to watch this movie, in my opinion, is to do so ironically - like with any "so-bad-it's-good" movie like "The Room", "Birdemic", and "Troll 2". Then you will get a ton of entertainment out of it.

Far too long and egocentric
7 February 2020
I used to be a huge Doug Walker fan back in the day, and this is mainly a review on the movie and not to reflect on my current feelings about Channel Awesome. That being said, this movie/miniseries having a total runtime of 3 and a half hour compared to the previous anniversary movies is far too long. Furthermore, it seems that Doug's character, the Nostalgia Critic, is the only one who really matters in the long run, even though the other CA producers are just as talented as Doug is. So compared to the other anniversary movies, this was a bomb.

What I expect of modern spoofs.
27 October 2019
To put it blunt, this movie is far from great... and yet I am not upset.

To be fair, since the majority of the Scary Movie sequals (and I am trying to figure out whether those movies were funny to begin with). I am laughing at times, but not really because of it being funny; I am laughing at the stupidity of the script. And I wouldn't go so far as calling it the worst movie ever, since:

A. That's mainly a matter of perspective. B. There are a LOT of movies out there, that are FAR worse...!

However, I still can't call it a good movie in an objective way, but I don't think they were aiming for quality... as it is with any modern spoof which parodies a specific movie that is popular at the moment.
