Bodkin (2024)
One star because...
... they kill the dog.
Bodkin, a show that had potential, but ultimately left me feeling frustrated and angry. The reason? They killed the dog. A completely unnecessary plot device that added nothing to the narrative. It was a cheap shot, a low blow that was totally uncalled for.
Netflix, a platform that has produced some truly remarkable shows, really needs to reconsider this practice of always killing off the dogs in their shows. It's become a predictable trope, a cliché that does nothing but alienate viewers who are animal lovers. Every thriller or crime show I watch that features a dog, I find myself bracing for the inevitable - the dog will not survive. It's a pattern that's not only disturbing but also disappointing.
Why resort to such tactics? Why not just shoot some people instead? After all, it's usually humans who are the perpetrators of crime in these shows, not the innocent dogs. Why does the poor dog have to die? It's a question that haunts me every time I see a dog on screen now. It's a question that Netflix needs to answer.
Benji (2018)
I give it a 6 because the dog totally melted my heart but..
...the ending totally disappointed me because they didn't include any scenes of Benji enjoying his time with the children in his new home. I felt like after all the trouble and pain he went through (I was almost sobbing at the beggining when a puppy Benji runs after the truck taking his mom away, the scene where the boy leaves him out in the rain and in the end when they think he didn't survive) we deserved to see him happily enjoying his new life. A few scenes of them having fun and loving eachother would have been enough. The big girl dog that helped him also deserved to be adopted by someone.
The Real Story of Happy Birthday to You (1992)
Been looking for this gem for ages and ages
Remember watching this on Cartoon Network back in the 90s and only recently figured out what it was and found it. I'm so happy.
Lady and the Tramp (2019)
Yikes..just yikes!
Horrible PC agenda. I give it a 3 just for the cute dogs.
