Paul T. Goldman (2023)
Quirky, Unique and Out of the Ordinary
I love the premise that a non-actor played the lead role about a story that actually happened to him in real life.
I do understand that It was probably a bit frustrating for the actors and the entire crew to work with someone with no acting experience. But, hey, who better to play the part than this quirky, gullible and real man? I found it refreshing!
The way the movie was put together is quite rare and I love rarities in life and in movies.
I have done some writing about things that have happened to me and if there isn't some sort of embellishment of a true story you might not grab the audience's attention as well. And, in my eyes, and my words, there is nothing wrong in embellishing.
Kudos to all the non-actors. Actors, director, and the rest of the entire crew for presenting something so quirky, unique and out of the ordinary!!
Man vs History (2021)
Unique. Educational. Fascinating.
Never before, in my memory, has there been a TV show quite like this.
Bill is a storyteller and a history buff. He tries to figure out what is true in history and what is not by actually doing the things he is investigating!
This is one of my favorite shows on the History Channel! I look forward to seeing what he comes up with on each coming episode!!
The Odd Couple II (1998)
Funnier Than the First
Thirty years between the first (1968) and this one (1998)!!! What took them so long??!!!
They did not lose their impeccable comedic timing in those years - the only difference was they looked older.
I watched The Odd Couple on Amazon yesterday (first time in 30 years-ish) and then I saw there was a sequel so I rented it and watched it today.
Jack Lemmon & Walter Matthau are like Jerry Lewis & Dean Martin, Abbott & Costello and other famous comedy duos.
Matthau has THE best one-liners in his movies - usually only spoken in stand-up comedy shows. The way he delivers his lines are so natural - it genuinely appears that he really does talk like that in real life. A sign of a great actor.
Jack Lemmon has played funny characters in movies before and they are memorable. In these two movies with his pal Walter, Jack's 'straight man' persona is funny by default given his 'condition.' You feel sorry for him, but the things he does are so out there that they get laughs.
From the beginning until the time they finally arrive at the wedding this was a laugh riot... one after the other after the other... (Once they stopped their road trip it was no longer a laugh riot, but that's okay. It was still entertaining.)
Toward the end of the movie I cried because I knew that they both passed away within two or three years of the release of this movie. This ruined the opportunity for them to reprise the final sequel which I believe should have been entitled "The Oddest Couple".
In my eyes, no duo has ever matched what these two brilliant actors portrayed on the screen. I will be forever grateful that their work will live on for future generations to see these two masters of their craft at work.
This Is 40 (2012)
Steeped Deeply in Reality
I think 'we' people that get this movie are over 40 (or around it) and are in a relationship with children! I read some of the reviews saying it was depressing, but we know that this is actually reality! Life happens when you are trying to make a life together with your significant other. It is not always peaches & cream. That is the way a rebellious 13 year old acts toward her mother & father and her little sister. That's how I was as a 13 year old. Parents don't always get along; it's one of the toughest goals to achieve in life - to be happily married! I commend & applaud the writers, the actors, and the directors for a job well done. This was hilarious at points and sad at others and always entertaining and kept my attention. Loved it!!
Nobodies (2017)
True to Life in Hollywood!
This is a true depiction of most people who are trying to catch their big break in the industry. You have to do things that most probably no one ever sees until you develop that one great idea! These characters interact so well together; the chemistry is palpable. I love how they talk over each other - just brilliant. In my comedic eyes (& ears) this is one innovative, well-acted, directed, written TV show, and TV Land, I salute you for airing it!
Rock Dog (2016)
Heartwarming with a Message!
Cats and dogs instinctively do not like each other, and Bodi, the Mastiff, and a cat named Angus Scattergood, an aging rock star, were no exception at the beginning of their time together.
Bodi left his home on the mountain to pursue a career in rock 'n roll, and Angus, with an inflated ego and an emancipated underweight physique, dreaded writing a new song which was so desperately needed to revive his flailing career.
The animated film "Rock Dog" was not a Disney movie, nor a DreamWorks, nor any other big movie studio movie, but it worked like a dream in my eyes. Lying in our reclining seats two rows from the front, my beautiful 10-year old granddaughter (Hannah) and I laid our eyes for the next 80 minutes on the screen that projected before us.
At times I cried, at times I sang (quietly) and almost all the time I was dancing with my shoulders, my feet, my hands. I LOVED this movie more than she did.
Bodi's father was one that is characteristic... he wanted Bodi to follow in his footsteps, and his particular footsteps were walking back and forth guarding their mountain home from wolves. He tried and tried to train him, but Bodi wanted to be a rock 'n roll guitarist in a band. Finally, he gave in and told Bodi to go to the big city and follow his dreams.
His dreams eventually became reality and his adventures that preceded involved sharply dressed wolves, a low rider black Cadillac, a bunch of colorful characters and so much more.
The message of the movie was clear. Do what you need to do to make YOUR life what YOU want it to be. Don't just go with the flow or the status quo. Be yourself. Everyone exceeds at something. No two people are the same. Use your uniqueness and follow your dreams!!
