Castle: G.D.S. (2016)
Surprisingly great episode
Well, this episode started off pretty "meh", and didn't seem like it had lot going for it, especially after the disappointing episode resolve for some of the time that Castle went missing in "Sleeper". The first half of the episode played out like a fun and quirky episode with some funny moments, however the 2nd half was a different story. Without giving anything away, the story took a sharp turn and really made a lot of things in past episodes incubate into something a lot better than they were made to be in the past. The writers had obviously made some key mistakes in past episodes, especially "Sleeper", but this episode did a great job of using the information opportunities of the storyline and actually made it interesting and made what happened in past episodes make "more sense".
This is all very general, but I don't like giving things away. The writers did a great job salvaging past plot details and seemingly "saved" the story-arc for now. I'm now actually interested in the story again.
Castle: Reckoning (2015)
This is what I've been looking for...
Wow. Just wow. With everything that happened prior to this episode: ('3XK', 'Kick the Ballistics', 'Probable Cause', 'Disciple', and then 'Resurrection') the writers created a storyline that kept the audience wondering: "How will this unfold? Will they ever take Tyson (and Nieman) down?" The writers created a storyline that gave a sense that there would be a climactic finish. And by golly, they did NOT disappoint.
The way the writers tied everything together, while also keeping true to the storyline and characters, while carefully minimizing plot holes and not cutting corners, very much impressed me. There were so many moments of intensity, anxiety, and darkness in this 2-parter - especially in 'Reckoning'. The dialog between Castle and Tyson was amazing at times, and the chess-match that took place between them kept me guessing throughout the episode. The themes of darkness, intensity, and intelligent development in storyline are why I am calling this episode my favorite of the entire series.
I'm hoping to see other episodes with similar quality as the series moves forward, because this is the stuff that keeps me coming back.
Castle: Resurrection (2015)
Best Episode since "Target"
Just when you thought the show was starting to go down hill and that the creators had lost their touch, they put together THIS amazing episode. Everything was set up amazingly well with the past 3XK episode - "Disciple" in a way that I did not see coming. The whole episode had a very creepy, tense, and anxious vibe to it that really kept me guessing. This episode was a wonderful surprise. I can't wait to see next week's episode, which is something I haven't been able to say in a long time.
Great job writers. I wish the were a lot more episodes/story lines like this one. I feel like the creators missed some opportunities with the themes that they used to have being more dramatic, serious, and intense. Because ever since the 5th season started, (and especially seasons 6 and 7) - the show has been very "happy-go-lucky" and in a bad way. There is a reason that the most highly- regarded episodes have a theme of intensity, drama, uncertainty, and high-stakes.
