Evan Almighty (2007)
A little too Politically Correct
First, the movie is OK, but not great in any way... but
Why are the Congressmen and Congresswomen in the cast citied as Congressperson(s). This is totally beyond me. Why is IMDb succumbing to political correctness? Only John Goodman is citied as a Congressman. I'm really surprised that they citied Morgan Freeman as GOD, since citing GOD is not politically correct in this day and age. IMDb is always touting guidelines for postings, but they themselves are being politically correct. When will they truly take a stand and cite the people for what they play as characters.
The biggest joke of posting a comment is "Your review does not contain enough lines - the minimumlength for reviews is 10 lines of text". I should be able to write a review or statement without this requirement.
The Hero (2013)
The Hero: retitled The Biggest Waste of Time Ever
Oh my God this is bad.
It's yet another reality show only this time it's truly real.
Average people doing things their mothers and fathers told them not to ever do, but they still do it.
And there's the ROCK, trying to bribe them on camera.
To test them. Really?
The ROCK is going to test my morals? The ROCK will test my morals or your morals? Who is the ROCK to judge us?
His previous job was to put people in the hospital and now he's testing the morals of people?
Mr. Johnson should stick to what he does best, kicking the snot out of big guys in the ring.
As an actor or in this case host of a TV show, he lacks any proof that he actually can do something other than act like a bully.
Torchwood (2006)
Misunderstood - It's NOT Doctor Who
This show is a slice of British SfiFi drama and SciFi humor set in Wales. I just finished watching one of the most interesting and thoughtful episodes (Out of Time) dealing with the return of people from a different time (the 1950's), with different morals and values thrust into the modern world. There were no space battles, no aliens... just people from another era attempting to understand our current way of life, of their place in the world and what they did to resolve their new life. They couldn't go back so they had to move forward. One didn't.
There are many posts on this show stating it is awful, terrible, etc. The show is compared to Doctor Who of course and to the X-Files, Battlestar, etc. This one episode should put them all in their place, since it was well done. A credit to the series as the single best episode of the series to date.
House M.D. (2004)
Is house believable?
As a drama I rate it as a 4. As a informational series I rate it a 6.
BUT! Dr House is a good Doctor because the character cares for the patients. He is a good doctor because he takes drugs. He's a good doctor because he solves the problems he doesn't really want to deal with. He's a good doctor because he bucks authority. He's a good doctor because the nurses respect him, his staff respects him. No, this is just a typical hospital story set in some land where doctors only care about making themselves look good in their own eyes.
If the TV networks think they have created a true representation of the medical community in which there was a doctor like this one he would be on the street or better yet in jail, wasting their life telling everyone how good he was. Would someone really want to be treated by someone taking drugs to reduce their personal pain, not caring about the one thing they have promised to do. Would you want to trust someone who takes drugs on film for a living. Yes, that is what the networks think we want to see. The TV network wants us to think this is somehow real.
I would rather be treated by Marcus Welby from the 1970's with no advanced technology than by a truly uncaring and totally disconnected person. I lost my father to a physican who felt that technology was better than feelings and carings. A physican that did not listen to my father. Maybe this will help someone else deal with their loss, but this is a Television medical show is turly lacking in any type of moral responisibily. I myself was mistreated for a condition by a doctor who did not want to take the time to perform any tests because of HMO issues.
I do understand that the actor portraying Dr. House is well paid (in excess of $50,000 per episode) to act in this manner and this is not a reflection on his moral standards, but it is a reflection on what he is willing to do for money. I would just like for the TV show to end in a real manner, with Dr. House and the entire staff being arrested and put in jail for life for the loss of their patients. That would truly be a fitting end to this series.
Sometimes, actors get more involved in their parts than they wish.
