Two Sentence Horror Stories (2017)
Loved it.
I've only watched 4 episodes so far, but I'm loving it. Definitely not for people who like mindless scare jumps- the stories in my opinion are well thought-out, deep, the imagery (especially in the third episode) is quite scary, the camera is well placed and the frames are also quite good, not to mention the music. Most of the reviews I've read against it are bashing it for political reasons rather than the shorts themselves. Worth a watch. They've done really good stuff on a low budget.
Midsommar (2019)
Masterpiece.
Completely ahead of its time. Amazing camera work, cinematography, acting... loved it.
The Prodigy (2019)
Pleasantly surprised
Most contemporary horror movies fail to scare me (you've seen one scare jump, you've pretty seen them all), but this one had at me at the edge of my seat and truly made me feel fear. Didn't think much of it from the trailer but here I am, reviewing it because I feel it really deserves a watch. The shots are thoughtfully planned to scare you, and the director seems to handle rising tensions quite well. Definitely watch if you can.
Loving Vincent (2017)
Absolutely mesmerizing.
Not only was it a completely new experience in film, it was incredibly moving as it was aesthetically wonderful. I don't think I've ever seen such a beautiful sequence of images in film. The story was also quite emotional- all in all, I cried tears of many mixed emotions from the beginning to the end of it. I didn't want it to be over- ever. They say that movies are the images of our dreams, but it's never been truer than it is for Loving Vincent- literally, dreams painted onto the silver screen. Don't miss the opportunity to watch on the big screen while you can.
Alien: Covenant (2017)
Don't believe the bad reviews
Cant believe all the bad reviews in here, just like I couldn't believe the guy sitting next to me in the theatre that said he'd rather go and hang himself in a public square than watch this movie again. What's wrong with people? Sure, some parts could have been improved, but most of it was a hundred times better than the other crap they been releasing these past few months, even years. The scene in which David teaches Walter how to play the flute is just superb! The way the camera's set, the continuous shots and the intimacy it creates to then jump to different shots to emphasize their difference just kills me, like the shallow focus used in some scenes. Fassbender' performance, as usual, steals the show, playing two entirely different androids with an agenda of their own, who have feelings and depth... androids with a story to tell, androids discovering what it's like to be "human"..., the fight for serving in heaven or ruling in hell...the movie has endless messages and layers that I'm not sure many people got. Ridley Scott really knows what he's doing and this movie clearly shows it. Go watch it and judge for yourself.
